Great interview/q&a with Daisy on YouTube.

At about 12:30, she talks about how well her and Boyega get along, having similar family backgrounds. Then right after, she points out the irony that they play characters that have no family.

I "think" she then goes on to say that both Rey AND Finn find their families.

While this is unsurprising for Rey, I'm excited that the story will also explore who Finn's family was too.

    What do you all think?

Not sure that follows. We all know Rey's origin is going to be told. The news here is somehow Finn's family is somehow relevant to the story.

Hmm, I wan't to believe she means something about 8 but it sounds more like she means they find their "families" in 7, as in each other and the Resistance, Solo and Chewie, etc. Otherwise I imagine Andi's head would have exploded.

They for all intents and purposes told us Episode 8 would most likely reveal Rey's origins so I am not too surprised by these comments.

I don't think I'm interpreting this the same way. She says "in 7 we find our families." In this context, these are characters who don't have families and they find family in each other.

Yes, I agree that she's talking about making new families and friends, but still, Finn trying to find his birth family could be a cool sub-plot. Although surely some older black actor(s) alongside Laura Dern, Benecio del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran would have been announced, so probably not gonna happen. At least, not in VIII.

Well I would have thought that it would be Finn's natural arc in us finding who he is although I wouldn't be shocked with him having some sort of a familiarity with Ezra where he DOES find his family but they've all been exterminated by The First Order .

My question is this, is Rey still looking for her family? Didn't Maz pretty much set her mind at ease after Rey touched the saber, saying that they both know they aren't coming back and that Luke was the one she should be seeking? I always thought that this some how helped convince Rey that her family was a lost cause and she needed to move on. Of course IF Luke is her father, then I guess she did find her family...

and does "finding" her family mean the literal or just maybe she meets someone who knew of her family years ago?

I'm pretty sure that she was referring to them "finding their families" in each other. Because their bonding is one of the biggest elements in the movie.

I would take it to mean that Rey's friends (Finn, Poe, BB-8, Chewie, Luke, Leia, etc.) will be her family.

In my perfect Star Wars world she is a Skywalker of some sort, but I'm not assuming that will be the case in Star Wars "reality".

Their family is BB8, Poe, Chewie and the one they saved the galaxy with.

They should make something totally unexpected like having Rey be related to Sy Snootles or a Nikto or having Finn be the son of Jar Jar as he indeed act like him. This would surprise tons of fans! Sure maybe 85% of said fans are going to be fuming but they are still going to have been surprised regardless. Doing this would be cool and funky but just having Rey be Luke's daughter or Finn be Lando's son is just going to be like mehh, who didn't expect that.
