Now that Lucasfilm has announced JJ as the replacement of Colin Trevorrow, how do you feel about the decision? Is it a great idea? Not a great idea, but not a terrible idea either? Bad idea.

Relieved, happy and excited! J.J started VII and having him end IX would be a safe and perfect way to complete the ST. He knows what he wanted, and now he can make it happen, and with TLJ and Rian's writing to set the bar, IX will definitely not be TFA again. No need to play it safe anymore.

I think this needs a before and after poll. Before TLJ and After TLJ.

I'm happy about it but not ecstatic. I'm not a fan of JJ's safe style but I can recognise he's a good, solid director. The last film needs a safe pair of hands after recent developments and with him we get that.

I would have liked Rian at this stage (although I'm yet to see TLJ of course) but I'll take JJ over someone unproven and unimaginative such as Colin Trevorrow, every day of the week.

I'm good about it, not my first choice but good all the same.

Not at all happy, I am afraid he'll make IX too similar in theme to ROTJ or the OT again. He did that with TFA so I am not ecstatic about him being on board for IX.

ecstatic JJ is back. TFA is my second favourite Star Wars movie behind ESB.

I really don't get the JJ "rehash" haters, did they all forget Kasdan was a co-writer on TFA? Why is all the hate thrown onto JJ?

His directing on TFA is SUBLIME!!

I was pulling for Rian, but I'm absolutely fine with JJ. The man gets the visual language of Star Wars. His characters and casting decisions were excellent. I'll take him over Trevorrow any day of the week.

I'm totally fine with J.J. Think sometimes people forget part of the purpose of TFA was to bring Star Wars back to the forefront of the minds of the public after the PT. They wanted to introduce new characters while providing familiar nostalgia. Whatever he does in IX has to flow off of what RJ does with VIII and the character directions, just like RJ had to do. I don't think IX will be a "rehash" of ROTJ. I think one of the main complaints of ROTJ was the unoriginality of redoing another Death Star similar to ANH. Hopefully, IX will not have another "bigger" StarKiller.

    YES!
I really think this is lost among some of the hardcore fans who never lost Star Wars but the general audiences, were kind of done.

I don't think ep 9 will be a repeat of rotj. Rotj was just a wrap up of the original trilogy. But i swear of we get another starkiller im going to go ballistic.

In my opinion, StarKiller Base is the only FAIR complaint as far as a re-hash of the original because it's utterly useless to the ACTUAL story.
if you just make SKB a giant fortress on a planet, with some evil diabolical weapon on it that needs stopped...almost all the comparisons to ANH would largely be so baseless.

Yea, I think there was a purposeful design behind TFA and it doesn't reflect as being cheap or easy on JJ's part or a rehash. Plus LK also co-wrote TFA with JJ. It wasn't all on him. I don't think IX will follow the same design esp after RJ's VIII.

I think there will undoubtedly be some parallels because it's the third movie in a trilogy in the universe of Star Wars. So I think it's kind of unavoidable to have thematic similarities that will be mistaken as "rehashing" but all the stories thus far seem to be going in different directions than heading into ROTJ, the plot points will be different.

Look as long as Snoke and Kylo dont die in the same way as Palps and Vader and we dont have Starkiller II and the final fight doesnt take place on a wooded planet with furry natives we should be good.

Ah in that case I am a firm meh.

JJ was always most likely to me so I expected this but TFA was a rehash in my book. So lets hope IX is fresh

I still don't get why a majority of people are afraid he's going to "copy and paste" ROTJ. He only made TFA retread ANH because that's what the studio expected of him.

Yes, thing is KK wants a remake of the OT. JJ just does whatever she wants. Not really his fault, but it is. We shall see. I'm an optimist, so if TLJ is different from TESB we can't possibly have an ROTJ remake. Unless you really wanted to. That is scary
