Leonard Nimoy's Spock was never at all marketed in the 2009 Star Trek (IIRC), aside from his voiceover in the first teaser, much like Luke's voiceover in the second teaser for The Force Awakens:

    "Space....the final frontier"

Both lines of dialogue from Spock and Luke were taken from previous films and remixed for the trailers...

Yet Leonard Nimoy's Spock still ended up having some cool moments in the film, along with plenty of new dialogue, rescued Kirk, was responsible for how the day is saved, and was shown in a flashback.... all this, and I'm uncertain exactly how much he was on set/shooting location.

Can we expect less or more Luke in comparison to that? What think ye?

Or will Mark Hamill's screen time in The Force Awakens be more like William Shatner's screen time in the 2009 Star Trek?

Wouldn't it be a trip and a fantastic tribute to Nimoy if it turns out to be EXACTLY the same amount of time? Great question @Emperor Abrams. You need to create an actual survey question so we can vote, dude. Or can only moderators do that?

Is Disney/Abrams prepared at all for a backlash from this? Because I talk with people right now, in real life and on other sites (YouTube, facebook, etc), and they all call me crazy when I tell them Luke is only in the film for a brief cameo at the end, and insist there's no way the filmmakers would do that because it's stupid.

I'm just wondering what kind of response this will have when it's all said and done -- especially if they kill Han and we never see the big 3 together again after a once in a lifetime opportunity of reassembling them.

My guess is Hamill will have a bit more screen time than Nimoy had in Into Darkness, but in Episode VIII, he will have more than Nimoy had in 2009.

So far, everyone is of the opinion Luke's 2 second cameo is true. So am I, but this is interesting. MSW has been right on the money again.

Hamill will be in for about ten seconds at the very end.

    Screw you, JJ!

Luke will have less screen time, but I don't believe his impact will be felt any less.

So we waited 32 years to finally see Hamil as a jedi master and we'll only get a glimpse of him just so JJ and Disney can have their cliffhanger ending.
Truth is, the old cast has been saying that this movie is about the new cast but hardcore fans like ourselves want the 3 together because its pure nostalgia.
That being said, I'm confident that they won't kill Han Solo in this one so that in episode VIII we get to see them back together one last time.

Darn good question. With there being so much mystery surrounding Mark as opposed to LN, I'm going with Mark.

Pretty much how I feel. From another thread:

Luke's in it...for all of two seconds. Whoopee. 32 years, we get a two second cameo for Luke.

Mark Hamill got in shape, was contractually obligated to grow a beard for months, spent weeks overseas at the shooting location, all so he could not say a damn thing in the movie and be in it for 2 seconds.

    Could've just CGI'd him

Bet Luke is in it less than Leonard Nimoy was in The Search For Spock too. XD

We have seen about 4 minutes of footage out of 120 minutes of the movie. And the majority of that 4 minutes seems top loaded toward the beginning and 2nd act of the movie. Why is everyone basing their opinion off of the guess of one person? I think people are going to be surprised. And by the way I love the way Disney is hiding him.

IT's not just the "guess" of one person though.
It was a rumour going around before MSW heard confirmation from their sources. MSW saw a bunch of shooting schedules and stuff (which is why they were able to leak the main plots months in advance). A few people, such as @MagnarTheGreat, have dug up information on Hamill's whereabouts during the filming of the movie, which proves he didn't really spend much time near the set.

    2014 Mark Hamill...not as much.

But Luke Skywalker in TFA is rumored to be more than 2014 Mark Hamill. There could be edited in footage of Luke from past Star Wars movies. There could be another dude playing as a younger Luke.

I'm gonna say definitely less. Based on what we've seen and (supposedly) know.

Old Spock was a major player in the last half of Star Trek '09, he was there for nostalgia purposes first. I'd like to think now that Abrams gets to work with a much better screenwriter, he'll put story first, even if it means little Luke. Luke I think will be more like some scene (or two) in the last third, unless we have been severely mislead.

    Who knows really.

EDIT: Not that more Luke = bad story, just that Less Luke does not necessarily = bad story
