Hello Cantina Members, I don't post here often because I don't have any legit sources and therefore nothing to contribute.

We have all heard the rumors and supposed leaks, and have been trying to connect the dots. I have been hesitant to post this theory because I think someone else would have been able to connect these ideas sooner, but as of yet, I have not read someone doing so, and I apologize in advance if this has already been talked about and I missed it.

I will start off with a list of rumors and leaks.

    • Luke has an academy that is destroyed by "THE SEVEN" or "THE CLAN", which is revealed to use during a flashback sequence.
    • We have been told that the cross guard on Kylos saber serves a purpose, and is not just there for eye candy.
    • Snoke is ill, and dying. Has been trying Kylo but Kylo is not a full fledged Dark Side user. He is missing knowledge.
    • A new leak/rumor has said that Hamill used white eye contacts and Luke is actually blind, and uses the force to see.
    • We have not yet seen a front on picture of Luke, and this could be partly the reason, it would be shocking to see a blind Luke, and it is best to wait for the reveal in the film.
My theory is simple. The cross saber actually belongs to Snoke. Snoke is the leader of this "CLAN" or "THE SEVEN". We don't know anything about them, but it could be that it is because we are not told much about them during the film. I hypothesize that they are left over inquisitors that after Palpatine were able to advance their powers and eventually confront Luke.

During the flashback sequence, Luke is away, and the seven attack. They destroy the academy, but spare Kylo and Rey (or maybe Rey was with Luke). They are spared because of their Skywalker heritage, because the Clan needs powerful force users to lead the Empire/First Order to victory. Luke returns and they are waiting for him. Luke confronts them and kills 6 of them, and while he is dueling Snoke, he is consumed with anger and hatred. However at some moment Snoke will taunt Luke and make him lose focus as Luke lets go of his anger. Using the cross guard of his saber, Snoke will wound and blind Luke, and in the process Snoke will receive a debilitating wound in exchange. Snoke flees with Kylo, as Luke struggles. Rey is scared, believing her father or uncle to be dead, and runs off. Now Luke is alone, believing that both Kylo and Rey are either dead or kidnapped. Eventually Han, Leia, and Chewie come in the falcon and Luke flees because he does not have the heart to face them, especially Han who will hate him for what has happened (and perhaps throughout the film holds anger or hatred towards Luke and mixed feelings towards Leia. Thus why they are separated).

I tried to keep it simple, and I'm not that good of a writer, but I believe that with what we know at this point this is probably the most logical scenario.

    Hope you enjoyed the read.

I like your theory and the direction it takes. It fits well with those rumors, though I'm not fully sold on those rumors. I think many are pretty new and without much to back them up.

That's an interesting idea, great post. I think the reason for the crossguard might be simpler than that. Perhaps before being trained as a Sith, Kylo was already used to fighting with a normal sword with a crossguard, so he might just have built that lightsaber to use it in a similar way to the fighting style he was already used to. Let's say you are a medieval knight and get recruited by the jedi, would you just switch to a lightsaber that resembles a katana or some other eastern sword or would you stick to the familiar crossguard style swords you have always used.

Yes this is possible, which in turn makes his backstory even more interesting. I wonder if Luke discovers Ren, only to have him snatched by Snoke.

Oh, MAN. This could be really cool if true. It would add so much to the scene in ANH: "But with the blast shield down, I can't even see!" A great throwback to show just how far he's come with the Force since then.

Isn't the white contacts/blind thing from a disproven "leaker" on the Star Wars Leaks reddit? Just the other day? Or did that come from somewhere else, too? What am I missing?

I read it on reddit, but I don't remember anyone disproving him. There has been a lot fake BS on reddit recently, so maybe that is muddying the issue, but this one sounded somewhat legit to me.

Good ideas. I like the theory. The Luke being blind thing sounds good to me, especially since it reminds me of Muad'dib in Dune Messiah, which IMHO would be a great model for a troubled Luke.

A potential 'I can't believe we didn't think of that!' element for the production team.

I think I remember reading that JJ Abrams didn't like how Yoda was portrayed in the prequels: we were all expecting a guy who could stop whole armies with his mind if he wanted to, and instead we got the Tasmanian Devil with a lightsaber. The idea in your post would jibe with what seems to be Abrams' - and many other fans' - philosophy on what a extremely high-level master would be like.

Nice theory, but I don't really like the idea of Luke creating another academy. Jedi Academy proven to be broken concept. Controversial regulations (no romantic involvement), susceptible to political influence, overall stagnation etc. I hope there will be no JA in sequel trilogy.

    Just my personal opinion.

I think it is unavoidable. He was instructed to pass on what he has learned. Obviously the new Jedi order would have to learn from the mistakes of the past one.

If Luke trains anyone it will be called an academy simply because that is what they called it in video games and EU books. I would expect either no name regardless of whether Luke intended on restoring the Jedi order or not.

It is. I always thought about solution based on rule of two. One master teaching one padawan/youngling, then when padawan reaches Jedi rank he/she departs from his master (master then takes another padawan/youngling), explore galaxy and when he/she feels ready, he/she takes his/hers own padawan/youngling, and so on.

The Jedi Council assembles only in times of great crisis.

This is the first I've heard of the rumor of Luke being blind. I don't know if it's true, but that would be a really interesting way to take the character. Now I'm going to be disappointed if it's NOT true! Thanks, reddit !!! lol

Yeah, exactly. I have a feeling that is sort of what happens to Luke only tragically.

Seems obvious based on rumors... What if Hamill is wearing contacts because.... LUKE IS A CYBOG.

Really enjoying the new reddit rumors. So much more entertaining than Mexican coke cans.
