Post Rating Etiquette School with Diploma

Love it.

We all have our individual criteria for ratings, but we definitely seem to have unspoken rules about when certain ratings are appropriate. Communities are funny that way. It can be really frustrating when some posters, perhaps because they're new here, don't follow suit. I just have to remind myself that it's just a dumb number. Doesn't make a difference in the end.

 

Heh, you know some people have actually commented and apologized for some negative ratings, due to accidentally hitting it when scrolling on a tablet or whatnot.

In any case, I wouldn't mind being able to see which post got a negative rating. Wait, can we do that or not? I just remember that when you get a negative you see the red thingy blip up but you can't tell where you got it, or why.

 

Capital! I'll admit I've never really explored that section of the site enough.

To the meat of the post, I once half-heartedly suggested we have a certain amount of points to give ratings or something like that. That way people would have think about the ratings they're doling out.

But I said half-heartedly, because in all honesty most of us just have one-offs that don't really amount to very much, and my suggestion was indeed one of the more drastic ones. Really the only thing that bugs me is the incredibly rare moment when someone makes a pretty valid point and everyone pounces on them.
