Shocked by all the people who put Solo above AotC, a sprawling epic that contains one of the most moving scenes in the saga (Shmi's death), covers masses of narrative ground, has huge action set pieces and battles, added tons to the mythology and is still visually stunning....weird.

It's always interesting to see the sheer contrast in different people's different tastes.

For the sake of making my current ranking a little different from everybody else's, as well as me being a big fan of animation, I'll also include some of the animated series in my list as well.

    1. Empire Strikes Back
TV: Star Wars: The Clone Wars
TV: Star Wars: Clone Wars [Miniseries]
    2. Revenge of the Sith
    3. A New Hope
    4. Solo: A Star Wars Story
    5. The Last Jedi (this and #6 are pretty interchangable for me)
    6. Return of the Jedi
    7. The Force Awakens
    8. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    TV: Star Wars: Rebels
    9. Attack of the Clones
    10. The Phantom Menace
    11. Star Wars: The Clone Wars [Movie]
    TV: Forces of Destiny

A lot of people have problems with numerous things in AOTC, from the at-times cringeworthy dialogue to the at-times wooden acting, to the childish humor, to the "inappropriate" uses of characters (flying R2, spry Yoda). For me, I find that most SW deaths that are supposed to be deep and meaningful don't impact me so much, perhaps because they are so foreshadowed by music to make them almost overwrought. Shmi is one of them. As far as visually stunning, I agree but there's also a lot of noticeable CGI.

No surprise for me. AOTC its an abomination.
Bad dialogues, bad acting, CGI clonetroopers, acrobat Yoda, CP30 factory scene, etc...
Solo in my opinion its so much better being only an "ok" movie.

A lot of people don't like "Attack of the Clones" these days. I don't share their feelings, but I'm aware of them.

It just a badly made movie. The plot is completely pointless because it forgets to showcast the actual story of Anakin's turn to the dark side. The love story between Anakin and Padme feels forced and boring. The dialogs and acting is terrible (not even Ewan McGregor can save it).
Yes, it has huge set pieces and battles, but the battles are way too long and pretty boring. The Battle of Geonosis was like torture to me. It didn't end... I could go on, but it would be off topic. Furthermore I don't want to "hate".

Solo is the weakest new entry by a fair amount and AOTC is currently my favorite prequel but Solo is still the more enjoyable film for me by a fair margin.

Threepio in the droid factory and talking about sand alone are enough to justify the gap to me and those are far from the only things.

Do you mean in your opinion in terms of film quality? Or are you speaking in terms of box office?

    1: ESB

    11: TCW
Okay, so I'm not screening that big bag of fail, but I felt I would be short changing you if I didn't include something about it on the list.
TLJ continues is "Holdo maneuver" through the rankings, bringing down everything it touches. Many revelations in the preceeding months have burned my tongue to the taste of this franchise. TFA is going down in flames and RotJ has fires in the command tower.
The 3-4-5 era is still holding strong; best not to pollute it with a screening of Ranger Solo. TPM still holding the line of average. My opinion of R1 has not soured at all, strangely. It may be the only true egalitarian film of the franchise. I still don't see Jyn Erso in the same light as the other "strong female characters" KK has been pushing out in her reign. Hat's off to Tony Gilroy for getting her right.

I've recently watched all the prequels again, as well as Solo and TLJ, and I am revising my rankings thusly:

    ESB
    ANH
    ROTJ

    R1

    Solo
    TFA

    ROTS

    AOTC
    TPM

    TLJ

The changes from the list on the first page of this thread are that:

    - I've thought a bit more about Rogue One's faults, and even though I love the heck out of that movie (it is the best of everything not OT in my opinion), it's first half isn't quite on par with the OT, so it falls to #4 from #2.

    - I've moved The Last Jedi to the bottom. I've seen it a good number of times now, and I don't think I'll ever be able to watch it in a fully-immersed way. The problems with its execution (battle choreography and Super Leia being two big, unforgivable issues among many others) are too much for me. I will always love certain aspects, but it doesn't feel up to Star Wars quality for me. I should note: the things that some people are upset about, i.e. Luke's attitude, Snoke having no backstory, Rey being a nobody- none of these bother me that much.

An additional thing that factored into this decision is that the prequels are much better than I have given them credit for in the past. They still feel like Star Wars.

Dude, your post doesn't, doesn't count (as a post-Solo ranking). See the film!

Personal enjoyment mostly but also the quality of the movie.

Box Office is only a measure of better for the studio and shareholders.

Shocked as well, I think with all the M'lady and sand jokes most people don't want to be associated with liking this film, for me, love it just for the Kamino scenes alone, so many Jedi for the first time, btw I love Jedi lore, AOTC has its flaws but its a relatively good film.
