Hmm, ok, not ever done one of these before I don't think, so let's give this a try. I also can't stress enough I really struggled with 4-7, I enjoy them all almost equally and was completely undecided. Solo being last of the top lot doesn't in the slightest mean I don't like it, can't wait to see it again and thought it was great, just having to make an order out of films I thought were even greater and its lower stakes just kinda have it ranked not quite so highly against the more epic movies in the franchise. So I've stuck my scores on to help provide clarity too.

    1. Rogue One - 9/10
    2. Star Wars (Adywan's the preferred edition) - 9/10
    3. Empire Strikes Back (Adywan's the preferred edition) - 9/10
    4. The Force Awakens - 8/10
    5. Return of the Jedi - 8/10
    6. The Last Jedi - 8/10
    7. Solo - 8/10

And then this lot. The jump from 7 to 8 is ENORMOUS here. It's like asking me to rank from first to second which I preferred more, out of just Jaws and Jaws 4: The Revenge. Jaws 4 will naturally be number two... out of two. That doesn't mean second place in that instance is a silver-medal position.

    8. Attack of the Clones - 2/10
    9. Revenge of the Sith - 1.5/10
    10. The Phantom Menace - 0.5/10, only for Maul... and even then it's solely to provide backstory for his expansion in Clone Wars, Rebels and Solo.

    1. ROTS
    2. ROTJ
    3. AOTC
    4. ESB
    5. TPM
    6. ANH
    7. R1
    8. TFA/TLJ (I legitimately have a hard time deciding which one is worse. One is one of the most vapid and unoriginal films ever made, while another has original content with so much weapons-grade cringe and so little redeeming qualities that I actually question whether or not it was initially just a repurposed fanfiction with a Hollywood budget)

I haven't seen Solo, but there doesn't appear to be any General Ranking Thread for those who haven't seen every film or don't plan to.

I'll take the bait......and then you can all flame away.

    1. Solo: Probably because it's the last one I've seen (and because Han Solo is muh boi). I really loved the pee out of this movie. Seen it thrice, will watch it much more often once it comes out on digital. Yes, amigos....Disney 'got my money' a lot on this one.
    2. Rogue One: I know. Lay on the hate, haters! I thought this one felt more like the stories I made up when I played with my action figures. I love the soundtrack as well.
    3. The Empire Strikes Back: My all time favorite of the episodes. It hit all the right notes at the right time for this 'kid.'
    4. A New Hope: Can't put it any lower than this. It's fun, it's new (at the time) and changed my life.
    5. The Last Jedi: I thought at the time, and still think, this is a brilliant film. If you asked me "Dudebrohomie!!! You wanna watch ANH, or TLJ, I'd sheepishly reply "SPIN UP THAT TLJ BOI!!!!!" (Many reasons, but visuals come to mind first........also......hear me now, and hear me clearly: I LIKED the Canto Bight stuff, and I liked Rose Tico.....a lot)
    6. Return of the Jedi: I hated the ewoks....even as a kid, but I've mellowed as I've become an older kid. The film feels like 'let's get this overwith,' but I'm cool with it. The speeder bikes are worth the admission price.
    7. The Force Awakens: Again....I loved this one, but over time I think it holds up less than I thought it might. I love any scene with Kylo Ren tho. Just love the angst of him in this film.
    8. The prequels: Don't get me wrong....there is a lot of good in the prequels. I'm not a hater AT ALL. In fact, of the three, I think Phantom Menace holds up the best, AND I think that is a killer title to a film. Anyone who says these films are nothing but crap are just wrong. I DO remember reading the novelization of TPM before seeing the film and thinking "something here just isn't right." Maybe it was the pacing.......the FREAKING PACING WAS OFF!!!
Anyhoo....... Rating these are like picking your favorite kid. (Side note: I do have a favorite kid, and all the kids know it)

I love them all, so it's like "All SW movies, then the rest of my favorite movies."

Number 10 on my list is still above most movies that come out. I'm looking at you Madea franchise and Independence Day (original AND sequel)
    --- Double Post Merged, Jun 24, 2018, Original Post Date: Jun 24, 2018 ---
I recently watched the prequels, and surprisingly TPM held up VERY well. I don't love Jar Jar, but I get why he's there. It's a fun movie, and has some seriously classic Star Wars scenes.

To quote Dewey Finn from "School of Rock" (another really good film): "WRONG!!"

Just kidding. My kid's rankings are totally off-kilter to me. But they experienced them different than I did. It's like my middle son says...."To me, TPM IS Star Wars!" I can't disagree. My dad didn't understand my love for the OT..... It's a generational deal, I'm sure.

You go on and enjoy ROTS.....

Just don't go all flame-thrower on me if I think it wasn't the pick of the litter.

    SIDE NOTE: But seriously.....ROTS? :)

    You're a true bro!!!!

There's lots to like about ROTS. Heck, there's lots to like about all of the PT. The opening space battle is one of the best scenes ever.

The chase scene in Coruscant is cool in AOTC.

Many scenes are cool in TPM.

Pick ANY SW film....there's cool stuff in all of them. ROTS is no exception.

(Warning, this post turned in to a much longer piece than intended. As will become apparent, I rant on about the things I don’t much care for, which is how it is with the internet, I guess. My ranting comes from an attempt at, and failing to, love certain movies. Enjoy! :p )

I’ve been doing quite a bit of binge watching and (attempts at) analysis of the canonical SW films lately and it has changed my perspective on certain movies of the series. Specifically, I’ve tried to analyze/critique them act by act, which helps me appreciate the things I like and single out the things that troubles me. I think this has given me some fresh (personal) perspectives that help me enjoy the films more (and gloss over the acts I don’t like in subsequent viewings).

Also, with each New addition to the Movie canon I find it increasingly difficult to rank these films, but it is a fun challenge nonetheless :) (I leave out non-canon films like the Ewok stuff and the Holiday Special this time for that very reason).

    1. THE LAST JEDI = 10/10
(A perfect SW for me; I like every single act and it gets better on every viewing)

    2. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK = 9/10
(2nd act drags a little bit, but impressively manages to deliver exposition in a way that isn’t borig; 1st & 3rd acts are tense and exciting)

    3. A NEW HOPE = 9/10
(A bit slow in places and it suffers, when compared to the rest, from a smaller production & technological limitations, but the wonder and excitement delivered by this experimental film is damned impressive – every act is its own mini-movie!; also ANH is an example of a simple, straight forward, and formulaic plot working brilliantly when done well – there’s a reason why myths and fairytales work!)

    4. RETURN OF THE JEDI = 8/10
(On a personal level, I’ve always enjoyed RotJ more than ANH, largely because Luke is my buddy, but it does have the weakest act of the entire OT – the 2nd act; the 1st act, however, is great opener and the 3rd one is grand and tense – the Ewoks don’t bother me at all, although the ground battle loses something on repeat viewings, and the Throne Room stuff is movie gold!)

    5. ROGUE ONE = 7/10
(1st act is a little slow [because it is an origins story] but interesting enough and it enriches the franchise like every 1st act should; 2nd act works well and is dramatic enough that the exposition doesn’t slow it down much; the 3rd act is among the strongest end-acts in SW, I think; On a personal level, I love the reuse of ANH footage & the Leia reveal more than I can express, and I enjoy this movie at a higher degree than I rank it; also, the 70s look is spot on)

    6. SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY = 7/10
(Like with ANH, every act in Solo: aSWs is a mini-movie in itself, and each one is a joy to watch, but it suffers slightly from being a smaller film with much smaller stakes than the others; the movie adds a ton of context and detail to Star Wars, however)

    7. THE FORCE AWAKENS = 7/10
(2nd act is a bit weak, and the dogfight battle in the 3rd act fails to grab me for some reasons – also, the lighting is sometimes weird; 1st act, however, is possibly the strongest opener in all of SW!)

    ........................................

    8. THE PHANTOM MENACE = 5/10
(Easily the most Star Wars of the PT movies, but it does have its share of problems; 1st act should be interesting, but it hurries along so fast that one doesn’t have time to start caring about one thing before we’re on to the next; 2nd act is sluggish, and if you don’t like the Pod Race* its painfully boring to watch; 3rd act is stronger, largely because of Maul & Palpatine, and because the tension finally begins to matter – the finale duel is pretty great; …and then there are things like Jar-Jar, and the overly complicated politics which comes to mire the PT.)
*I personally find the Pod Racing boring; it’s an unnecessary, self-indulgent addition grafted on because of George Lucas’ nostalgia for old cars and racing. As an added issue, the race is suspiciously similar to a somewhat famous 1975 Norwegian stop motion puppet animation racing film, called “The Pinchcliffe Grand Prix” in English, with many identical shots and plot elements and tension moments. Now, I can’t confirm that Lucas ever saw this movie (although it was dubbed into English and distributed in both the UK & US in the 70s), but the similarities are striking. More importantly, however, it means that most Norwegians have “seen” the Pod Race before, in a manner of speaking.

    9. REVENGE OF THE SITH = 5/10
(Now, I don’t personally like this movie, but credit where credit is due. On close viewing I have to agree that – bar a couple of cringe-worthy romantic scenes and CGI “stunts” – the 1st act is pretty strong, easily the best act of the PT; the 2nd act is messy and hurried (the core tension of the entire PT is largely boiled down to a couple of scenes in this mid-act of the last film, and the big characters charge off to resolve poorly set-up conflicts throughout the galaxy); 3rd act falls a bit flat despite its potential, but the problem is not primarily this act in itself but the way the characters and plots have been handled earlier in the PT – GL has focused so much on advancing CGI throughout the PT production [for which he does deserves laud I might add] that when it finally comes down to tying the plot together and resolve the tensions and climaxing the character arcs, there’s not much awesome to work with. The final duel is, I find, a boring action fest with all tensions already resolved (one watches it knowing the characters have already ended their development and the outcome will change nothing since we know both combatants must survive till the OT), and the upping of the epicness ante to the 11th degree only serves to distance it from the highly personal conflicts we get in the rest of the series and makes it feel more like a Michael Bay thing than a Star Wars climax, IMHO. I find it hard to rate RotS as I personally dislike it so much, but it is possible I ought to rank it just above TPM; there are many more things that annoy me in RotS than in TPM, but at the same time there are a couple more things that impresses me too, so… I dunno. In the end, I leave TPM less annoyed than I do RotS and I enjoy the Kenobi-Jinn-Maul duel much more than the Kenobi-Anakin one)

    10. ATTACK OF THE CLONES = 2/10
(This movie struggles to decide what it wants to be. 1st act is the slowest in the series, despite two assassination attempts and a chase scene – the railroad series of events that leads Kenobi to Kamino is an example of very poor & lazy story construction; If the 1st act is slow, the Naboo stuff in the 2nd act stops the story dead – the Tatooine stuff, however, isn’t too bad, although it suffers from Anakin’s whining steadily tearing down our sympathy for the character; Kenobi’s 2nd act is alright, however, and the only part of AotC that I truly enjoy watching; The droid factory scene aside, the 3rd act is actually better than I tend to give it credit for, although it is far from good – an entire film’s worth of conflict and action is crammed into this one act, and a heavy dose of plot convenience is needed to make it all fit; …and then there’s the matter of taste, which splits the fan base on this movie – if you like the colorful CGI battles, if you like bouncy swordmaster Yoda, if you like the arena scenes, well then chances are you’ll thoroughly enjoy this act)

    11. THE CLONE WARS = 0/10
(I haven’t actually re-watched this movie in years, and it was not part of my recent binge watching & analysis efforts, so my judgement here is based on faltering memory of the film. That said, I remember nothing I liked anabout this one, and I do remember being thoroughly bored and annoyed throughout)

Ranking Star Wars movies is easy. It should go like this:
    1. The ones WITH Chewie
    2. The ones WITHOUT Chewie

This Is Definitely Going To Be Controversial:

    11: The Clone Wars Movie

    10: The Phantom Menace

    9: A New Hope

    8: The Empire Strikes Back

    7: Revenge Of The Sith

    6: Return Of The Jedi

    5: The Force Awakens

    4:Rogue One

    3: Solo

    2: The Last Jedi

    1: Attack Of The Clones

    Score Out Of 100:

The Phantom Menace: 15%, WAY Too Much Politics

Attack Of The Clones: 98%, Definitely In The Minority Here, The Only thing I don’t like about it is: “and not just the men, but the women, and the children too”

The Clone Wars Movie: 2%, Does Anybody Even Care About This?

Revenge Of The Sith: 85%, Really Good, I Just Find The Others Better

Solo: 95% It Was Great, But It Just Didn’t Compare To The Last Jedi

Rogue One: 90% Great Story, Disney Was Getting Better And Better Until Solo

A New Hope: 54%, I Know It’s A Classic, And I Don’t Think It’s Bad, But It’s Just Not Intense Enough For My Liking

The Empire Strikes Back: 75%, Sorry, It Just Doesn’t Measure Up To The Others

Return Of The Jedi: 87%, Definitely My Favorite Of The Original Trilogy, It’s Great, But The New Ones Are Better

The Force Awakens: 89%, It Does Remind Me Of A New Hope, But It’s Way More Intense, And Just Feels Way Better

The Last Jedi: 97%, I Truly Think the minority of fans are speaking out more about their opinions of the movie, it was great! (About Luke acting out of character, I think it fits the story, plus, people can change their opinions, even ones that drastic)

Let me tell you something - your favourite is AotC? That's great! Let no one judge you what you like and not like about Star Wars or film in general. I am happy for people who like movies that I personally may not that high of an opinion of. :D

    3. Phantom (I love the mystery and creativity in this movie)
    4. Return of the Jedi (Great conclusion)
    5. A New Hope (Classic)
    6. Attack of the Clones (Detective Obi Wan and Jango are amazing)
    7. Rogue One (Boring characters but great third act)

    1. Empire - Perfection
    2. Star Wars (ANH) -Perfection
    3. ROTJ - Really great parts (Throne Room), really bad parts (Ewoks)
    4. Solo - Flat out fun SW movie, doesn't pretend to be anything other then that
    5. R1 - Solid SW movie, but the negative is the characters could have been developed better
    6. TFA - Fun, Fun, Fun, Retread, Retread, Retread
    7. TLJ - Very good movie if it weren't part of the Saga, Very bad Saga movie.
    8. ROTS - Probably the most interesting of the PT, but the turn scene is terrible
    9. AOTC - I actually liked this more then others, as it has a very interesting plot/premise but a bad romance brings it down.
    10. TPM - Mixed bag as it has the nostalgia of Pre-Internet whining SW fans, but 10 year old Ani/Jar Jar was a big mistake
