Post-Solo SW Film Ranking

I think any Star Wars fan runs this list over in their head every time they sit down to pick a movie to watch or when they are trying to defend the series to others.

1. Empire - funny enough as a kid I didn't like it. I thought it was too heavy, now I love it for those reasons.
2. A New Hope - that opening scene is enough to get anyone hooked. Classic film. Slow at times but overall great.
3. Last Jedi - despite all its faults (which all the movies have) I really enjoy this movie. It is a very different concept to have a Star Wars movie be a direct continuation from the next. Essentially I see this movie as The Force Awakens 1.5. I think too many people get up in arms about this movie, but if you look at it as if it was released back in a time before we all felt the need to know everything about everything it works really well. Imagine if TLJ was released back in the 80s. Just think about it.
4. The Force Awkens - I know it's a rehash but it was a great rehash. So many fun moments.
5.Rogue 1 - overall this is just a great addition to the series. It's nice to see another aspect of the story we fell in love with.
6. Return of the Jedi- this was my jam as a kid. Even though it's 6 on my list it's still great and I love it. Great conclusion to the original trilogy.
7. Solo - I would put this even with ROTJ. Fun, just fun.
8. Revenge of the Sith - I loved how dark this was. Agree with others that some of the development was rushed but still a pretty good film.
9. Phantom Menace - I stood in line all day to see this movie when it came out. I remember liking it but not loving it. There are some really great moments in the movie but not enough for me to put it higher on my list.
10. Attack of the Clones - I've watched this one the least amount of times, which probably makes its rank in the list not fair but I just could never get behind it. The Yoda fight scene was great but other than that. I don't hate it but I don't pick it first to watch when I've got a few free hours.

Just watched Solo again last night and I may have to bump it up some. It'd be hard to pass the 3 I already had ahead of it, but man Solo is so freakin' good.

 

This is probably the most unique list I've seen.

 

Haha. Is it mostly because Revenge of the Sith is high and Empire Strikes Back is low(ish)?

 

I would say that having RotJ over both ANH & ESB is quite rare. Having Solo & Rogue One over ESB I think is really rare indeed

 

@Solo have you seen mine? I have never understood the fascination with ESB.....how about ROTS above ESB?

As for Sir Puke's list, I'm honestly not sure I've ever seen RotJ in first place...

 

Poor TPM and AOTC as they are pretty much at the bottom of everyone’s ranking list. They are those cousins you haven’t talked to in years but you see them every family wedding and funeral. You may not like them but they will always be a part of the family! Lol

 

Not mine. AOTC is #3 on my list. I happen to have a strong affection for that backwards, neglected red-headed step-child of the film saga.

 

I'm new to this site. I was just wondering if there might be a sequel to Solo.

 

Bob Iger is quoted as saying that Star Wars films are going to "slow down" in the wake of Episode 9, meaning that there's likely going to be a space of time devoid of spin-off movies between the Weiss & Benioff Trilogy and the Rian Johnson Trilogy (whichever comes first). This is further emphasized by the reports earlier last year about the Boba Fett and Kenobi spin-off films being put on indefinite hold. It's highly unlikely a Solo sequel will appear anytime soon, especially with the disappointing financial performance of the initial film back in May 2018.

 

@Solo Yep. You gotta understand where I am coming from on ANH. I was 12 when I saw it in the theater in the summer of 77. No other movie will ever come close as to the impact on me.....it is beyond words the feeling I had in that theater that day.

 

Like others, I've viewed the films recently. So here is my updated ranking:

1. A New Hope and The Empire Strikes Back. Yeah its a tie. The former started it all. The latter is just epic.
3. Rogue One. I really love this film. There is a lot I like, including the slow burn. The hallway scene is just... wow.
4. Revenge of the Sith. The pay off for the prequel trilogy. Seeing Obi-Wan defeat Anakin, order 66...
5. Solo. I enjoyed this one, although L3 really got on my nerves. Otherwise it is a fun film.
6. Return of the Jedi. There is a lot that I love about it, but I think I just don't like that the Empire loses.
7. The Phantom Menace. The PT has grown on me over the years, and I find I don't mind TPM or AOTC as much as I did. There is a lot to like about this film, especially Darth Maul and Qui Gon Jinn.
8. Attack of the Clones. Like TPM, there is a lot that I like about this film. I love the politics (perhaps I'm the only one), and I love seeing Obi Wan in his prime. My biggest concern is the over reliance on CGI.
9. The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Might be a bit controversial, but these films have not aged well for me, especially TFA. I had a blast watching it at the cinema. I couldn't get through the entire film over the holidays when I rewatched them all. As for TLJ, I just don't like it. I like the visuals. I like the acting. I'm really hoping IX is much better.
