If you're anything like me, it takes you several viewings to determine how you truly feel about a Star Wars movie, and home video allows for the infinite re-watches us SW obsessives require. That being said, how would you rank Solo now that you've had the opportunity to watch it in the comfort of your own home, pause it on small details, rewind it when necessary and so forth? Here is my current ranking after 6 viewings:

    1. A New Hope
    2. Empire
    3. Rogue One
    4. Return of the Jedi
    5. Solo
    6. Revenge of the Sith
    7. TFA
    8. TLJ
    9. Phantom Menace
    10. AOTC

My rankings change from day to day, but my 1 and 2 and my 9 and 10 rankings never move. The best movies stay at the top and the worst stay at the bottom.

For me, it's really groups of movies that I can easily rank (OT on top, PT on bottom for instance). Within these groups, rankings change. The OT movies are so close together that on certain days, Empire and ANH might switch places, or end up #1 even. And depending on mood, TPM and AOTC compete for last. What's interesting about the new films is that they all fall in the middle between OT and PT - and cracking that OT top 3 is EXTREMELY hard considering their sentimental value. The only one that has almost managed it and that I oftentimes enjoy maybe even a little bit more than ANH is Force Awakens. On the flipside of that observation, Solo is the first Disney SW film that has cracked the bottom 3. But that's mostley because I happen to like the other ones better and see them as a lot more relevant.

    1. Return of the Jedi
    2. The Empire Strikes Back
    3. A New Hope
    4. The Force Awakens
    5. The Last Jedi
    6. Rogue One
    7. Revenge of the Sith
    8. Solo
    9. The Phantom Menace
    10. Attack of the Clones

My most recent viewing of Solo, now on Blu-Ray, has made me appreciate it a lot more than when it was in theaters. But not enough to move it up just yet.

For me it's like this at the moment (I'm 40):

    1. Return of the Jedi
    2. A New Hope
    3. The Empire Strikes Back
    4. Rogue One
    5. Solo
    6. Revenge of the Sith
    7. The Force Awakens
    8. The Last Jedi
    9. Attack of the Clones
    10. The Phantom Menace

One can clearly see a skew towards preferring the OT, and the most "OT-friendly" stand-alones. Then comes RotS, which is also closer to the OT, and only after comes the ST. AotC and the PM clearly come last, a bit interchangeably like the poster above.

It doesn't mean the bottom section consists of bad or mediocre movies, it just says I prefer the OT and OT-related ones best.

It’s pretty low on the list for me purely because I really cannot stand Alden Ehrenreich as a younger Han. His acting as the character of Han Solo was awful in my opinion and he just doesn’t look enough like Harrison Ford for it to work for me. Those two things combined make ‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ borderline unbearable and ruined everything that was so great about this movie. It’s really a bummer because I loved everything else about the movie so incredibly much and think it would have been absolutely perfect had someone else been cast! The story, the directing, effects, creatures, sets/environments and all the other various actors were all outstanding!

The only other issue I have with the movie, though nowhere near as major, is that I wish they would’ve kept Dryden Vos as a Lasat, regardless of which actor played the character. I think it would’ve just been a much better creative choice!

    I. TLJ = Favorite overall, and all considered. Too much greatness to list. Masterpiece!

II. TESB = Hoth, Dagobah, Cloud City. Force ghosts, Yoda and Han Solo swagger.

III. ROTJ = Tatooine/Jabba’s Palace, Endor/Ewoks, Death Star II. Jedi Luke v. Vader/Emperor.

IV. THE CLONE WARS: So many amazing episodes that add to the SW lore! A few favorites…

-Mortis arc = Godly! Amazing story and characters with visuals to match!
-Yoda arc = Spiritual quest of greatness! Evil Yoda? Yes, please!
-Night Sisters arc = Dark magic/Witchcraft. WITCHES! Mother Talzin. Savage Opress.

    V. REBELS: More amazing episodes that add to the SW lore! A few favorites…

-Shroud Of Darkness = Inquisitors, The Sentinal/Temple Guards, Ahsoka and Yoda. TIBIDEE!
-Twilight Of The Apprentice = Masterful! Sith Temple. Kanan v. Maul. Ahsoka v. Darth Vader.
-Twin Suns = Samurai showdown. Obi-Wan v. Maul final duel!
-Wolves And A Door = Continuation of the ‘Mortis’ arc! LOTH-WOLVES!
-World Between Worlds = Superinterdimensionalisticexpialidocious! Continuation of ‘TOTA’.

VI. ANH = Classic sci-fi western. Tatoonine. Obi-Wan. CANTINA! Stormtrooper disguises!

VII. TPM = Best looking prequel/shot on film. Aesthetics. Qui-Gon/Obi-Wan. Duel of Fates.

VIII. ROTS = Clone War scenes! Fall of the Jedi! Yoda v. Sidious/Obi v. Anakin FTW!

IX. SOLO = Everything was outstanding, except Alden Ehrenreich as Han (Ruined it for me).

    X. ROGUE ONE = Great environments/world building. The entire ending was spectacular!

XI. TFA = Glorified fan film. Rushed/unfinished. Han scenes and the snow duel are PERFECT!

XII. AOTC = Visually cheesy. Dooku is lame. Love Coruscant/Kamino scenes. JANGO <3

*This was difficult! I want to place TFA so much higher! Same goes for SOLO and AOTC!
**I still really enjoy both ‘Caravan of Courage’ and ‘The Battle For Endor’!

    1) The Empire Strikes Back
This movie has the perfect story and movie structure. It actually built on its predecessor and expanded the universe and its characters

    2) Return Of The Jedi
I simply love the tension in the throne room and the space battle over Endor.

    3) The Force Awakens

A great re-introduction to the franchise with a lot of potential. Some people may say it's a soft remake of ANH, but for me personally I prefer characters over stories.

    4) A New Hope
The movie wich started it all. It's a fun and light hearted adventure.

    5) Revenge Of The Sith

Dark, emotional and brutal. Probably the SW movie with the best soundtrack.

    6) The Last Jedi
This movie has some of the best, but also some of the worst scenes in the whole saga IMO.

    7) The Phantom Menance

    So many models!

    8) Rogue One

Probably the most beautiful SW movie to look at.

    9) Solo
I have to say, this was the first SW movie which I finished with a bad feeling.

    10) Attack Of The Clones
Except for Jango and Obi-Wan, I don't like this movie that much.

It changes all the time for me, but at present the list goes like this. (No offence intended towards ppl who love what I dislike :) To all their own)

    1. TLJ (OMG! Best thing ever! ❤ )
    2. ESB (all the darkness...)
    3. RO & ANH (this is one film for me; so epic!)
    4. RotJ (if only act 2 had been stronger...)
    5. Solo (all the fun & tone & character!)
    6. TFA (has its moments but suffer on repeate viewings)
    7. TPM (many cool things but quite dated now & sloppily written. Acting is weirdly wonky)
    8. RotS (all right 1st act but the rest is a mess; a sadly missed opportunity IMHO)
    9. AotC (like watched very bright paint dry)

    9. Attack of the Clones
    10. The Phantom Menace

The OT is magnificent, the ST (so far) is a mostly satisfying continuation of the OT, the PT is entertaining (I've been rewatching the films recently, and I still enjoy watching the PT), and the anthologies are fairly generic and unmemorable.

Copied from my personal details.....discussed this many times before....here we go:

    1. ANH
    2. R1
    3. SOLO
    4. TLJ
    5. ROTS
    6. TESB
    7. ROTJ
    8. TFA
    9. AOTC
    10. TPM

A New Hope and R1 are forever linked for me.....ANH will always hold a special place in this old dude's heart. SOLO is amazing and on 4K and digital download I love watching certain scenes over and over again. I guess I break the mold by putting TESB at #6, I honestly did not embrace it as "the best SW movie ever"....the ending of ROTS is very emotional for me that is why I have it at #5

OK, I have been on a binge watching SW mood lately (along with the fact that they have been on TBS lately), so I have been able to watch all/parts of the movies lately (after finally seeing Solo a few times on Bluray) so I can finally get a good gauge of my current rankings:

    1a. ESB
1b. ANH (or Star Wars to many of us who saw it in 1977)
    3. ROTJ

    4. Solo
    5. R1

    6. TFA
    7. TLJ

    8. ROTS
    9. TPM
    10. AOTC

As you can see that the OT and Standalones are my favorites, as I sort of soured on the ST after TLJ. The standalones work for me because R1 feels like a true prequel to ANH, where Solo gives depth to the OT Solo character as I love the Han/Lando greeting scene in ESB now.

I still think the ST are better executed/acted movies (I actually enjoy them) then the PT, but the story ruins the OT (along with TLJ ruining TFA), so the ST narrative is an utter mess at this point and I don't care about Episode 9. The PT story is great and actually makes the OT better, but the execution/acting/CGI just bring the movies down where they have very little rewatchability after all these years. Plus I think Hayden Christenson was miscast, as I would have loved to see Adam Driver as Anakin.

I look forward to more Standalones, but sadly the Solo Box Office may have doomed any future projects (Maybe the Kenobi movie is still a possibility?).

No joke, I’ve watched Solo like ten times since getting it on Blu-Ray. This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I really love this movie. It has everything Star Wars needs (in my opinion): good action, good music, good story, good character/vehicle/planet designs, good conflict, etc. Not to mention that I already loved the character of Han Solo; he’s the badass that every guy wants to be like. I feel like Alden perfectly captured what a young Han Solo should be like. Here’s my ranking as of right now (it changes pretty frequently though, hence why there are so many interchangable spots):

    1. The Empire Strikes Back
    2. Solo: A Star Wars Story
    3. A New Hope (interchangable with #4)
    4. Revenge of the Sith
    5. The Last Jedi (interchangable with #6)
    6. Return of the Jedi
    7. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story
    8. The Force Awakens
    9. The Phantom Menace
    10. Attack of the Clones

@Jedi77-83 Outstanding post from one of my fave Cantina members....although our tastes differ with respect to ROTS and ESB. But I fully respect your sage opinion. Great points about the inverse relationship between story and acting in comparing the PT and the ST - one with great story but not so good acting and vice-versa.

As I have said on here before, my list of "favorite SW movies" does not mean I "hate" the lower-rated movies. If TPM or AOTC are on TV I am there watching. I guess my list can be described as my "favorite SW movies followed by my lesser-favorite SW movies"

This is not an unpopular opinion for the SW fans who have seen the movie. It reminds me of Bladerunner as it has this cult-like fanbase that absolutely love the movie.
