A user on Originaltrilogy.com posted this about the release of a 4k restoration today:
"I’ve heard release in September with a likely announcement either in Celebration or in May."

I still can't believe they didn't do a wide re-release prior to TFA.

Fox doesn’t have the best reputation for working well with others. Could be Disney tried and they just couldn’t reach an agreement. Otherwise, I can’t imagine why they wouldn’t have capitalized on the extraordinary hype heading into Ep7.

They worked together for the digital release of the saga, as far as I know.
According to rumors, they originally wanted to release the 4k restorations of the OT in 2015, but ANH needed more work, so they pushed it back.

Makes sense. Better to wait for the anniversary. You'd think they'd start planting the seeds now though as the hype for R1 is starting to wane.

Fox can't release new Blu-Rays without Disney and they want to make money.
They are going to work together for this.
If Sony and Marvel can work together, Lucasfilm and Fox can too.

That's true, but it's tough to sell IV without the other movies.
In 2020, all distribution rights for V-III will transfer to Lucasfilm. Fox will want to sell a few more copies before then. The anniversary is the perfect opportunity to release the OT (probably OUT) as a 4k set.

Again "V-VII" ANH is too lucrative to sell.

They won't sell the rights to Lucasfilm, but they are going to cooperate with them and release ANH along with ESB and ROTJ this year.
Lucasfilm already did a 4k scan of ANH, so Fox doesn't even have to do any of the work.

This may be nothing, but it's interesting to me:

I was reading this article on fxguide.com. They are talking about how ILM digitally created Tarkin for Rogue One.
The article features some pictures that they were officially given by either Lucasfilm or ILM, including this one:
This is likely a screenshot of what the artists used as a reference point for capturing Peter Cushing's movements.
Note that this is not from the Blu-Ray. It's without a doubt a different scan (that has not been cleaned up completely).

My guess ist that what we're seeing here is a shot from the 4k scan Gareth Edwards, Greig Fraser and a few others have talked about.

I will only buy a 4K restoration of it if they keep the 20th Century Fox logo and fanfares. Otherwise, I won't.

If they're coming out anytime soon those should be there.

I personally would love to see a properly restored version of the 1977 Star Wars, from before the "Episode IV" was tacked on in 1981.

Why not? If there's ever a proper release of the pre-SE SW films, it'd be a natural thing to do. Heck, Lucasfilm already specially inserted the 1977 crawl for the (admittedly terrible) laserdisc-transfer DVDs.
