What that may mean is that Amazon's digital HD version is the theatrically released SE and not the later DVD version of the same.

I'm pretty sure it is the 2011 SE.

Kristian Harloff thinks "something big" is going to happen at the 40th anniversary panel at SWC:

Later on during the Twitter questions he mentions the possibility of Lucas being present for the panel. I think that's the "something big" he's alluding to.

I know it's cheap, but I will never not go to a OT rerelease in theaters. NEVER. It's just to wonderful an experience to pass up.

The damage has already been done and further tinkering with Special Editions would have been even more disastrous. :p

Me too. The problem is that I've never had an option in my life to watch the original cut legally and the changes made in the SE were questionable. But that's not the issue. If you like these changes, fine by me. The problem is that George Lucas and Lucasfilm pretend like the original cuts have never existed. Director cuts are a pretty standard thing but they never come in expense of the original cut. Films are very much product of their times and it shows itself in cinematography, VFX, storytelling and also in editing. Their timeliness is an integral part of their legacy and one of the ways in which it's expressed is through the cut of the film presented in cinemas and should serve us as a reminder of how much we had achieved in the art of filmmaking and also how much the art has moved forward since the day of the premiere. We should never be ashamed of them. Again, director's, special or whatever you want to call them cuts do happen and are perfectly okay if the director feels that their vision wasn't fully expressed in the cinematic cut but it must never come at the expense of the original film.
