I dunno, why couldn't that happen in a starship? I am just opening all possibilities, I doubt it was. I am more inclined to believe it was set on the same planet where the Greenham Common filming happened, this was something I specifically asked "What does the terrain look like" I was told "Just the back of Pinewood, slabs, grass etc" this is total specualtion and piecing together by me, I am wondering if something was destroyed in the air (be it planet, moon etc) as a Warning shot of some sort for the rebels on that planet. Either way one thing is for sure and I am unwavered about this, whoever the bad guys are, they got firepower.

I think you misunderstood me. All I was saying was I believe King is legit and I agree with most of what he is saying. It sounds like he has either been on set or seen photos, which neither i nor my sources have. I was not trying to one-up or say anything I have to share is more or as interesting.

My earlier post you refer to was meant as a cautionary post and you can believe it or not. When the coast is clear I will share something, but I'm not going to risk the employment of a source or he/she getting sued because I want to drop bombshells.

I would also like to clarify that King seems to have glanced the final product, where as I have information coming from several different drafts of two separate writing teams. I default to King as far as this bit of information goes

I certainly hope we get to see something like that. A modern rendition of a TIE fighter pilot commanding his vehicle, and then seeing him go down would be pretty awesome in my view. Perhaps even a view from within the cockpit looking out as he plummets. Gets me all excited.

That raises the question of whether the TIE fighters will be the same, or altered in design as well. Are we sure it's supposed to even be a TIE fighter? Have any of them shown up, like the new X-wings, and I just missed the news?

Going on that, isn't it possible it could be some type of ship with a simulated forested environment in parts and a cantina? Like a luxury liner or so? I seem to recall some old EU stories involving a ship or two like that.

Very unlikely, but just throwing it in there.

Was the location crucial to what was happening? If not it is not unheard of to change set for convenience.

That would go against JJ's idea of background telling its own story though.

Come on.. arm coming off? Certainly a cantena reference... would be offended if it happens anywhere else

Now, the potential that the events will unfold "as above, so below"

two different perspectives perhaps? Daisy on the ground and... who? up in the sky...

    Okay... where's your stuff?

Rebel bases are outside... they are the good guys :) Any TIE fighters would be in a hanger... on a set... IMNSHO

Maybe the Cantina is on the Star Destroyer? Maybe that’s JJ’s big Trek crossover. Ten Forward, complete with Whoopi and 3d chess.

Something else small I remembered, this character from Jabbas palace is said to be in the film.

At first thought, I think they may have meant this guy from the Abu Dhabi filming.

But I was told he has one arm longer and one foot longer than the other. Also he seems to be a "Butcher" or run a "Meat Stall" at a market.

    Interesting...

I'm hoping for a large ship getting destroyed... The Death Star, planet destroying weapon angle has been played out me thinks...

Yeah, but I was just hoping I missed an update here or there of at least some concept or model, like the chrome trooper drawing. I'm very interested to see if they possibly retained the style with some modification, a la the updated X-wing. I see some fan-made concepts for EP VII online but they're, hm, "meh" comes to mind. Guess I'll have to wait.

And as an afterthought, are we sure yet that any remnant of the Empire is inherently "bad"? I remember some mumbo jumbo about "lines being blurred" between them or so. ;)

Maybe a Capital ship? A super star destroyer or the 30 year later equivalent might look like a small moon from ground?

Thank for the info King3000, it's much appreciated.

Weren't there rumours that Han and Chewbacca were piloting a Super Star Destroyer? If it is a ship exploding in the sky (if not a moon or planet) then perhaps it might be their own ship going up in smoke - stranding them. Gives Han and Chewie an excuse to seek out a new ship and somehow come across the Falcon.

I like that thought. The whole "Han and Chewie commanding a Star Destroyer" keeps slipping form my mind. Does that rumor actually say "Star Destroyer", or was it just a ship of comparable size?

That rumor was started by Devin Faraci at Badassdigest. He later retracted it. The rumor now, courtesy of @Kyle, is that Gwen Christie is the one who pilots a Star Destroyer.

Well, I'm half disappointed, half pleased. It would've been cool seeing them in some form of command for a Star Destroyer, but at the same time it just seemed at odds with their characters from the OT. Times could change, but Han usually didn't accept large-scale responsibility in the films.

So, more pleased at that I suppose.

    http://badassdigest.com/2014/08/15/exclusive-find-out-about-han-solos-new-ride-in-episode-vii/

He retracted the part about the rank markers. Of course, it was this misunderstanding so he says that led him to believe the bit about the SSD.

What is interesting is that one anonymous guy I followed for months that claimed connections to Pinewood and the production (but said he was not a direct insider) was ahead of Faraci in affirming the idea that Han and Chewie were flying a Star Destroyer.

    http://www.starwars7news.com/2014/09/new-star-wars-episode-7-leaks-plot-rumors.html

They would/could both have to be coincidentally wrong.
