Lore answer: Probably due to them being obsolete thus no one would expect the plans being there. idk.

Realistic answer: BECAUSE IT WAS THE FUTURE....for the seventies.

I don't know about questions per say but I have some stuff I'm curious about or want to speculate on. The opening crawl of A New Hope says,

    Rebel spaceships, striking
from a hidden base, have won
    their first victory against
    the evil Galactic Empire.

    During the battle, Rebel
    spies managed to steal secret
    plans to the Empire's
    ultimate weapon, the DEATH
    STAR, an armored space
    station with enough power
    to destroy an entire planet.

So I guess I want to know who the spies are and how they infiltrated the Death Star. I'm going to assume first victory for this film will mean first major victory against the Empire, so all about that battle. How they got the plans to Leia and how that fits in. I wonder if they will recast Leia or just have her aboard the ship off screen when they transfer the plans over. As I assume the film ends with Tantive IV on its way to Alderaan. I'm also hoping Diego Luna is playing Biggs since the resemblance is there.

Will Vader and Tarkin be involved, will any of the cast of rebels cross over to film? That would be cool.

To me, it seems very likely that the main characters of Rogue One will travel to the Death Star at some point in the film.

    How?

Take a look at the Verizon commercial. Right off the bat the set looks too good to have been built specifically by Verizon - more likely, the set was loaned to them for shooting by Lucasfilm; they most likely had various 'Imperial Hallway' sets for use and they gave Verizon one to shoot their commercial.

However, curiously enough, the hallway looks almost identical to the Death Star hallway sets from A New Hope. The Imperial hallways and such from TFA look different.

Why would Lucasfilm specifically build an old hallway design just for a commercial?

Answer: They didn't. They just gave them a set from Rogue One, which has already begun shooting as TFA has wrapped.

    Food for thought.

It could look like you are on to some thing but hope that this will not be the case.

Although the deleted Anchorhead scenes from ANH did not make it into the film (because they would have slowed the pacing) there are many fans (including myself) that revere these as film canon.

In these we clearly learned that Biggs just returned from the Imperial Academy, is first mate on the Rand Ecliptic and plans to jump ship at the earliest next convenience to join the Alliance.
Basically he leaves Tatooine almost the same time as Luke, events in ANH stretch over a couple of days and both reunite in the hangar of the Great Temple on Yavin IV.

Events in Rogue One apparently take place before events in ANH, so I don't see where Biggs could possibly fit in into Rogue One.

@SunnyD we discussed the set from the Verizon commercial in the "The look of Rogue One" thread.

Death Star corridors as part of a Star Destroyer interior were first featured in The Holiday Special (a reuse of a deleted ANH Scene aboard the Death Star) and then adopted for Star Destroyer interiors in Rebels.

Thus an ANH Star Destroyer is most likely to feature interiors reminiscent of the Death Star, but you may be on to something here, assuming that both Star Destroyer interiors and Death Star interiors will to some extent share the same set in Rogue One.

I rather hope this is not the case, but your post helps to anticipate such possibility.
