I thought L3 was one of the best bits of the film. Her part was small. The whole "droid rights" thing was funny as well as her conversation with Qi'Ra in the cockpit of the Falcon.

I've always said ANH is actually a movie about Han; we just happen to be focused on a kid.
Han has the most growth in ANH; Luke...eh. Not yet.

And I agree; Solo just makes Han's arc in ANH better.
It also improves ESB and ROTJ because now how Lando behaves about his ship actually makes sense, and Lando flying her in ROTJ isn't a moment of oddity, but sweetness.
Also, Solo fixes that very odd miss in ESB to ROTJ where the last thing Han knew was that Lando betrayed him, and yet without a word, lept to save Lando from death and then went on to let him have the keys to the Falcon.

Before Solo, that was a bit odd. Now it makes absolute sense.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

I've never known L3; I only watch the movies.
I loved the hell out of that character; it was like the Star Wars version of Marvin from Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and R2's snooty side rolled up into one. I laughed; hell I even clap laughed.

I really loved seeing a droid go rogue and get in their own way; that was fun.

Seems like most, but not all, of folks that had issues with L3 liked an L3 from a book that they didn't feel was like the film's L3.

Glad I don't read Star Wars books, because I loved the hell out of this character.
    L3's very French. ;)

    Cheers,
    Jayson

How on earth do people rate this a 4 star (let alone 5). All about that brand I guess.

I don't like things because of brand.
I liked Solo as a 5 because I loved it; it's my kind of film.
Love fun romps that cause me to smile, laugh, and have a bit of sass, and that's Solo.

I don't like AOTC; other people do. Let's assume that there's more than one tastebud in the human entertainment amygdala response instead of assuming brainwashing, eh?

    Cheers,

Maybe becsue people like SW for differet reason and your taste may not reflect someone else's taste and vice versa. The fandom can't decide what considered to be a good SW movie. Personally I hate Avatar and have no interests to see the future movies but I'm not going to knock someone who enjoyed the movie much less spend tons of energy on talking negative about the movie on every single social media posts. For all we know, you may not have "good" taste in movies.

Your post gives me hope. My love was never extinguished however as I love the PT, OT, ST and standalone movies and books both legend and canon. But great to see your transformation...

Well, it would be unfair to hate Howard's work because I was disappointed by Johnson's approach to SW. I might not like the direction the main saga is going but there are more than enough spinoffs in the pipeline to stay emotionally invested in the franchise. Though it feels strange to be more interested in the "subplot" than the saga I'm optimistic when it comes to the future of SW.

I voted 4/5 but it is more a 4+. It is clear that (unlike TLJ) the director and writer both knew and understood the Star Wars universe, the characters, and the history. It is consistent with the stories that came before and the stories to come. My only concern is... SPOILER ALERT!!!!!!!!!

While anyone following The Clone Wars and Rebels knew Lord Maul survived past E1, this is the first time moviegoers are learning this. I think an explanation is owed and I expect we will get such in a future movie (even possibly one not entirely consistent with the already-established narrative). It makes me wonder if the plan is to have the villains come back in the next "Star Wars Story" but not the hero (which I think would be a good idea). It sure would make sense to bring Maul back into any Kenobi movie they make. However, I also think moviegoers would be owed some conclusion to this storyline even though we already have Maul's death in Rebels.

Is it perfect? Of course not. But it is a wonderful addition to our catalog of SW movies.

No. Politics its not the main problem with the prequels.
Bad acting, bad writing, bad dialogues, stupid romances scenes, CGI troopers, etc...these are the real problems of the prequels.

And I gave it a 3/5 for Solo. It was a good experience but I am sure that I enjoyed much more the others 3 movies of Disney era.

I gave it 4 out of 5 as it did for the most part what I want out of these new standalone SW films.
I also already have tickets for my second viewing but that won’t be till the end of June so will probably see it again at least once more before that.

If you watch this movie for the first time and do not immediately realize afterwards that it's a mediocre movie at best, you're lying to yourself.

Of course, this movie was much better than The Last Jedi, but that's not really hard to accomplish.

Everyone as his/her own opinion and taste. Some people say "The Godfather" is the best movie ever made, other people disagree. Who's right? Exactly. No one, because it's subjective.

Some people only want a fun and entertaining movie (this is the reason why Marvel is so successful, even though I think these movies are really mediocre), and in this regard Solo is delivering.

Anything I could post up here would very likely come out soundin' like this:

After the divise nature of TLJ I would love to see if SW fans are on the same page again now that SOLO has been released. Personally I am glad to say that this movie has succesfully rekindled my love for the franchise and I was wondering if other fans feel the same...

I would edit out these things:

    - Try to remove as much of L3 as possible, replace her dialogue with beeping sounds. It's a droid, not a sentient being with real emotions. To quote Obi-Wan in Episode II: "Well, if droids could think, there'd be none of us here, would there?" There's a good reason why Obi-Wan says this, and it fits perfectly with what was previously established with droids in the OT. Even K-2SO in Rogue One had no real emotions - it's amazing how Rogue One still to do this day completely outdoes everything else Lucasfilm has put out since Disney bought them.

    - Remove the reveal of Enfys Nest at the end and keep her identity a mystery until the next film. And most importantly, do not turn her into a rebel. Seriously, it was super illogical. Are we supposed to believe that Han and Tobias will immediately forgive the person who murdered their friends and destroyed their cargo 2 days ago? Oh, wait, it's a teenage girl! Then of course they can't be mad at her. Seriously, Lucasfilm, you are so incredibly sexist and you don't realize it yourself. Why are you so afraid of creating real female villains? Nope, I would edit this scene out, because it also does injustice to Han's character by making him a nice guy. Han Solo is not the nice guy.

    - Remove the scene when Qi'Ra says that Han is "the good guy".

    - Additionally, it might be hard to edit, but Han should be the one killing Dryden Vos, not Qi'Ra. The whole fighting scene between Han and Dryden makes Han look completely weak and useless.

    R2 and especially 3PO had/have emotions...

Welcome to Star Wars or how I call this franchise: "The way of redemption"

Yeah, that may have been a little bit to much or forced. But I don't mind it.

I agree. First of all Han had two chances of killing Vos. Secondly Qi'ra killing Vos looked bad and fake.

One of my favorite war films is Kelly's Heroes. That film includes a character named Oddball who doesn't really fit into the time period of the film, but fits into when the film was released. He's one of the best characters in the film.

I mention this because L3 reminded me of this character. L3's part is much smaller, but I loved her. If people didn't that's fine, but it's getting tiring everytime someone doesn't like something they go on the internet and call people names who like it.
