Since Rakata Prime has officially been added to the star map it seems there have been a lot of discussions on Snoke being from there. However I was thinking based on the sets we've seen from Rogue One and the recent news that filming has been taking place in the Maldives, could it be Rakata Prime was added for Rogue One and not TFA? The beach and the Palm trees would match the way Rakata Prime looked on KOTOR. In addition it's the home of The Star Forge and maybe now the Death Star as well. I attached some photos for comparison as well.

I think you might be on to something there. It looks the part anyway and could make another appearance in Episode 8 or 9.

Maybe, but I wouldn't count on it.

But then they have lifted at least one TFA planet name from the EU so I suppose anything is possible.

I think they could pull it off too. In Rogue One it could just be a planet where a skirmish is taking place, but to people who really are into Star Wars lore, they will pick up on the name and the history of the planet.

I really hope what your saying comes true! Rakata Prime is my most favourite planet ever & when Disney announced they were cutting off most of the EU I was gutted. But seeing it in the new galaxy map just recently made me sooo happy again. I wonder since they have included Rakata Prime as canon material now, have they also perhaps made the Revan story arc like KOTOR I & 2 canon aswell? Time will tell on that I guess but I doubt it for some reason which sucks because the Old Republic era is my favourite time period.

I don't expect them to bring back KotOR/ToR at all, but I think they just wanted to use old planet names, since there's no reason not to use the old names. Planet names don't mean they have to bring back whole plots, and it saves them timesince they don't have to make up new names.

This sandy/beachy planet is definitely tropical like Rakata Prime though, so it definitely matches the new star map!
