    So far the positive reviews have been coming industry people. Sorry but I take their word with a grain of salt for obvious reasons. But just knowing people that I know personally going to see this film people who haven't been reading the leaks and spoilers, I know they will be disappointed. The guys I'm seeing the film with on Friday I've already warned them to lower their expectations but their expectations were so high from just watching the teasers trailers and TV spots. They would be bound to be disappointed come Friday. And I know there will be many like them.

    I was talking about iron man 3 that was another film that had misdirection in it. I haven't seen star wars yet.

    You are basing this off a summary from a message board. Movies are far more than the sum of their parts. You need to see them in context to fully understand their quality. Unless you truly only care about plot. If so, more power to you. But I watch movies for a much different reason then.

    You can doubt the industry people just as I doubt reddit posters with agendas. But in the end, the only people who know are those who have actually seen it. And everyone has an agenda. We bring ourselves and our interests into a movie and that in part determines our appreciation. Making up your mind to dislike something based on only part of the picture seems like an exercise in futility to me though.

    I respect your opinion, it is yours and no one can take that away from you... with that being said, don't tell me what i will think. I understand the reaction to superimpose your feelings on to mine. I understand the criticism of the PT, yet i loved them. Star Wars is now a culture meme... the movies will be judged not only by us, but by the generation that views them for the first time. Star wars is hope, Star Wars is memories, Star Wars is part of our culture that will change as fast as the next generation viewing it. What i am trying to say is (and i am going to catch hell for saying this because it might be a piss-poor analogy...) This Star Wars might be like "Skinny jeans" on dudes to some... you might not understand it, but it is the way it is. Don't try to generationally own your views about Star Wars... let it go to the next generation and let them make their own opinion.

    I don't mean to belittle your (my) ownership to this franchise, but understand that for a franchise to evolve, there must be change (that includes new characters and plot points).

    From my short time in this forum i have seen sooooooo much passion.... don't loose that my friends, but know that there is an evelotion.

    So the question that motivated JJ to do the movie is "Who is Luke Skywalker?" Apparently he has no idea so he decided it to leave it up to Ryan Johnson.
    I hope poor Ryan has a plan because so far it seems like they wrote 5 seasons of Lost and they left him in charge to provide all the answers...

    its about good story telling. its about trusting narrative and most importantly its about character. the Luke from the OT wouldnt just up and leave because his student had a pissy fit. he wouldnt sulk. he wouldnt completely abandon R2. he wouldnt abandon his friends. if there is no other explanation for why Luke left the galaxy to fend for itself after training what becomes the next Vader, it is lazy through and through. just plain bad. theres really no way to smooth that over.

    actually, i really want to see what rian does with the luke set up in TFA. Rian has the ability to do something quite special here and write himself into star wars history. I think the bloke is awesome.

    Johnson is great. I'm worried about Colin Trevorrow. I personally think Jurassic World is god damn awful no matter how much money it made. Now that might not be his fault, maybe it was just a studio movie that he didn't have much control over but it doesn't fill me with hope for episode IX.
