It would be sad/funny if Felicity is in disguise and Tarkin himself orders her to fire the weapon to kill her friends and she actually does it .

Yeah I think the one on the left might be the Shadow Trooper and the one on the right might be the Rebel equivalent to the biker scout

The far right one screams Coastal Assault Trooper to me because of the color. My guess is Imperial design.

You're thinking of the EU conjecture "Rebel Fleet Trooper".

Had this been a Rebel uniform, Lord Vader would have definitely said something about that to Leia and it would have provided him with the proof that the illegal seizure of a diplomatic vessel was warranted.

The 1977 Lucas Notes clearly refer to them being members of the Alderaan Royal Guard. This however would foil Leia's claim that Alderaan "had no weapons" considering this is the kind of uniform we see abundantly at the Yavin IV base.

I therefore believe that the uniform of Leia's defenders actually belonged to the Imperial Senate Guard, which in her particular case mostly consisted of members of the Alderaan Royal Guard.

As a means to protect members of the Imperial Senate from space pirates and overzealous imperial agents (...) this would be a "neutral" uniform which I therefore do not expect to see in Rogue One and in open conflict with the Imperial forces.

That never occurred to me in all these years.

Those were my favorite troopers as a kid. And here I sit realizing they were never "Rebels" at all...

Great idea. The unform does have an imperial feel to it. A bit like the imperial naval guards:

Technically they are Rebels but pretending to be neutral and merely guarding a member of the Imperial Senate. A large portion of the confusion arises from the screenplay (apparently intended for the execs at 20th Century Fox to instantly distinguish between the "good" and "bad" guys) which refers to them as "Rebels" but - of course - Vader didn't hold the screenplay in his hands when he confronted Princess Leia (LOL).

Yes, exactly. The black samurai-helmeted guys belonged to the "Guard Corps" according to ANH costume designer's John Mollo annotation to the corresponding costume sketch.

IMHO it cleverly suggested that although both belong to the Empire (the use the identical kind of hand blaster, too) we can already see a "contrast" between those employed by the Imperial Senate (and/or its members) and those servicing the military (and the Emperor). ;-)

(very cool screencap, BTW, from the deleted ROJ scene where Jerjerrod receives the order to destroy Endor and reminds the Emperor that they still have plenty of own personnel there, which is alarming enough for the Death Star security controllers to turn around and wonder about the imminent fate of their comrades on Endor)

I think the building of TWO DSs in the span of less than 5 years took its toll on the financing of the galaxy as well as the well being of the officers on both sides and it actually works in better with that deleted scene in relation to TFA where Finn's feeling some info play similarly K to these troopers which is why he isn't allowed to become an officer due to Phasma ...

ohh yes, where he is being ordered to fire the weapon at endor. I love that scene. It should have been in the movie. And yes your absolutely right, it does fit in well with how The First Order is portrayed in TFA.

I wouldn't be surprised if JJ was that much of a nerd to include something like that from a deleted scene :p .

He also chose to continue the Tarkin/Vader tension by making both Kylo and Hux survive the Starkiller implosion. I like it.

I get the tone of this, it's meant to show how the Rebellion formed and WON through sheer guile and sacrifice rather than through a magical, mystical gift.

I think it will set the tone nicely for just how much was already spent just getting those plans to Leia and just how desperate things are when Luke innocently find himself at the center of it.

Remember, the Rebellion isn't militaristic it's a bunch of scum and miscreants who refuse to allow order in the galaxy to "thrive". That's what makes them great heroes. That they do not submit to the will of Kings and Queens, even if you brandish them with titles like "Admiral" and "Lord". That theme, I wager, (that and regret and triumph over that regret as alluded to in the spoilers we know), is what makes the film work.

I also think we'll see how bounty hunters play both sides of the field, just a stupid hunch there.

    Cool designs +1.

Pardon my saying but by this definition George Washington was a leader of scum and miscreants who rejected the order of the British Empire.
