Some of us have been able to see it via screenings or the XD app and I thought it was time to get a "reaction" thread going. again..."SPOILERS BELOW*

I've seen it twice now and expectations ran VERY high before I first watched it. I can safely say that I loved it and I think "Rebels" will wet our HUGE appetite for future/between Star Wars films.

Is it perfect? No.....but, The Clone Wars wasn't either. ESPECIALLY in it's first season.

(For the record...I LOVE The Clone Wars. All of the seasons. A few episodes withstanding.)

    What worked for me:

-From the themes/Motivations of the characters to the interactions with each other, it all seemed believable and genuine. Nothing came off forced where I found myself rolling my eyes.

    - Kanan is a a lot stronger of a character than I gave him credit for. Kanan naturally comes off like he's the leader and I don't think we needed dialogue from the crew to even say it. The line where he says "Kid, I'm about to let everyone in on the secret" REALLY pumped me up and might end up being one of my favorite Star Wars moments ever. It's not groundbreaking or anything, but it's such a important moment for him and I KNOW the novel "A New Dawn" did help make that special.

    - Zeb. Great design. Great personality. Cool weapons. I have no doubt in my mind Zeb will be a HUGE fan favorite going forward. He's quickly becoming one of mine.

    - Sound design and effects are up to form. Sounded like Star Wars. This is bigger than people might think.....well...IMO

    - Everything we hadn't seen on screen before like transport vehicles, speeders, blasters etc ALL moved and came off like 100% Star Wars. Nothing was or seemed out of place.

    - One of my biggest fears was the series tone set at a younger kids level. Being on Disney XD...why wouldn't I? I can 100% safely say that "Rebels" does not write down to younger kids. At all. Instead...like George Lucas intended with ANH, "Rebels" is meant for kids of all ages and takes the content seriously. Sure, you will have some goofy stuff added in for laughs and lighten up the tone, but when you're talking about freeing Wookie slaves and killing Stormtroopers to do it?...it needs to be real. If ALL of them survived? That wouldn't be Star Wars.

    - The use of the force/lightsabers and how often it ISN'T being used really works on a dramatic level. When the Force/Lightsaber are finally being used on screen it means big plot movement or character development is happening. It's special. Why I love that scene when Kanan busts his Lightsaber out for the first time.

Those are just some of the things off the top of my head, but moving on...

What DIDN'T work for me: (there wasn't much)

    - The animation on the Wookies looked bad. After the second viewing I accepted it a little more, but I still think they don't look very good. Rebels animation isn't bad either. It's just not same level a lot of us are used to seeing in the Clone Wars last 3 seasons.

    - This is meant to be kinda funny and....somewhat serious. Hera's pants bug me. THERE! I SAID IT!

    - Ezra....boy, oh boy.....Ezra....The new Ashoka indeed. Now, I need to put out there that I don't dislike Ezra. I actually like him. However, I did find his "street rat"/ "Aladdin" antics a little annoying at times. Obviously, he's there for kids to relate to and like Ashoka before him, I think he will grow with the audience and hopefully ditch adolescent things like the slingshot blaster he has.....God I hate that thing.

That about covers it from my end. Can't wait to see what you all thought.

I liked it. I didn't love it, though I hated the Clone Wars movie and ended up loving the series once it hit its stride. And So far it's better than first season of Clone Wars. The main thing bugging me is the characters talking to themselves. It breaks the "show, don't tell" rule and comes off really awkward. And the rating. This is rated Y-7 compared to Clone Wars' PG. I think as the show goes on, it will grow up with its audience and become darker and correct current problems.
Overall, it was good, felt like old school Star Wars, and looks to be promising.

I sat down with my kids and watched the first double-length episode of Rebels last night - and I’m a very happy nerf herder!

This show just feels RIGHT. It feels like Star Wars. This was the kind of story that I used to invent in my backyard with Kenner action figures, vehicles, and playsets. This felt like one of the adventures in the original Marvel series of comics. Okay I guess I’m dating myself.

Here’s some of my take aways - there might be spoilers here if you care about that:

    LOVES

Characters - really interesting, with a lot of room for development. I’m interested. I want to know their stories and where they come from. We’re off to a good start in this department. As the dad of a daughter, I also appreciate that two of the main cast are women and strong women at that. Sabine - the artist/Mandalorian - seems particularly interesting.

Love that they used the original Chewie design for Zeb - and loved the scene where he pretends to be a Wookie. Clever.

Liked the design of Agent Kallus’ helmet - the Early Imperial Roman vibe is a nice touch.

The original design for the Scout Walker. I first saw this in a Sunday newspaper comic strip in the late 70s/early 80s and it BLEW MY MIND. To see it in action on the screen - to have an actual toy being made - that just ROCKS. To me it’s a better design than the AT-ST - and I love seeing it come to life.

The Ghost - awesome ship. Real Star Wars feel to it.

Theme/story - just well done. The Obi Wan bit - “a new hope” line, etc., the music, was all well done.

    HATES

Hated the design of the Wookies. They just didn’t look like Wookies to me. Seemed a weird choice.

Tie Fighter design - why, oh why, go with the crappy dimensions of the old Kenner toy? It’s clearly wrong. Just stupid and dumb in my opinion. I will bet you they were driven by mold costs at Hasbro and nothing else. Dumb, dumb, dumb and very disappointing. Looks silly.

Inquisitor’s lightsaber on his back. Just weird. Although my son pointed it out and thought it was cool so there you go. Old fart gripe I guess.

So despite a couple little things I really liked the show and think it has a lot of promise. I enjoyed The Clone Wars but didn’t love it. It was more about sharing Star Wars with my son and it always seemed like just a vehicle to sell Lego sets to 8 year olds. (I did really like Ashoka and what they did with her character however.) This Rebels show feels different to me. It feels like the Star Wars I grew up with. And it makes me even more excited for Episode VII!

I just wished to ask, but did you watch it using the Disney "verified user" or whatever thing? I'm assuming it's the "Spark of Rebellion" one right?

I'm just curious because everything I see tells me it'll premier October 3, tomorrow night for me. I've got my thing set up to record it, so hopefully I haven't missed anything.

Don't worry, I skipped over your spoiler section so I'll still be fresh. :)

Yes if you sign up for the Watch Disney XD service - you can watch it early. It actually works through my Apple TV - but can also be on your computer/iPad/phone/etc. if you want to watch RIGHT NOW! ;-)

Do I need to pay for anything to use the Watch Disney XD or log in with my cable provider info?

I don't think you need to pay anything. I didn't - although I don't know if that is because it's part of my existing cable package with Xfinity.

Just watched it with my 8 year old padawan. We agreed almost immediately - this is better than 'The Clone Wars' in all aspects.
It was fun and exciting, and the characters were diverse and entertaining. As an old fart like the OP there were things I wasn't on board with but generally this was the best hour of moving Star Wars pictures since 1983.
Good sign: I want to see it again :)

Only thing that I really didn't like was the Inquisitor's moment. That fell flat.

Well, the look of the TIE fighters and partially the Stormtroopers too..they used too much of the original soundtrack...the absolute need to include Mandalorian armor instead of something new...but the good outweighed the bad so much I can live with some uninspired concepts and a touch of the dreaded prequelitis

Just watched it on the UK, and I must say I really enjoyed it. As another old fart, who isn't a fan of the prequels and haven't watched much of the clone wars, I was quite impressed. Lovely hidden treasures in the background such as the concept Luke Skywalker sat slumped in tarkin town add to the intregue. Won't say more until our friends across the world have seen it.

I thought was really good. Had some funny bits in it. Chopper was good. Thought all the new characters were good. they didn't need to mention vader or the emporer. It stood on it's own. It's just a matter of time before we see some of OT characters. Will definetly watch next week. The wookies did look bit like yeti homer

I agree. All the characters stood up on their own merit. The odd cameo from Vader and palp is needed, but can't understand why r2 and 3po are needed, it's a big universe, what are the chances?

LMAO "Homer Yeti" - nice one.

R2 and 3PO - they are, after all, the two characters who flow through everything. Binding the universe together as it were. ;-)

    (SPOILER alert)

About time! Star Wars is back! I sat with my wife and three year old daughter and watched Rebels earlier and we all had a great time. Totally agree with some of the posts above, within 15 minutes I already rated it as better than TPM and AOTC and I'm not a PT hater as such, just generally don't think they are particularly good films. My little girl loved it and thought that Sabine was cool; my wife and I gave a wow at the same time with the opening of the holocron and the Obi-Wan message. Well done to. Lucasfilm and (can't believe I'm about to say this...) Disney. I'm sold, give me more.

    Just watched it.

I found it too bland. Maybe I'm too old for these type of shows?

Positives: There's the realism of death in war.

Cons: The characters, plot, seen too many times before.

It was a shame the had the obi wan bit in the previews. Would have been a bit of a wow moment. But I like it. There's a lot of detail in there. The thing with rebels now is that they have a blank canvass with all the EU now not cannon. But that's not to say that some of those characters and plots can't be used in rebels. The makers are fans. They know who admiral Thawn is and how popular he was. They can go anywhere they want with this

Well, this series is about the foundation of the rebellion. And as we know from the original movie, C3-PO and R2 end up with the Rebellion, so... It makes sense for them to be in it. Besides, Star Wars was always about the 2 droids.
