After arguably two of the best episodes of the series, Star Wars: Rebels follows up with yet another great episode. This episode is Kallus-centered and we get indications of where his story is going. Is Kallus outed as Fulcrum? Does Kallus get executed on the spot if he is, in fact, outed? Read more to find out!

    2.jpg

    SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

    What worked for me:

    - Kallus (Fulcrum)
    1.jpg

I've always loved the character Kallus, which essentially stems from the fact that I used to rock the same exact Wolverine sideburns he does. That being said, it was the episode "The Honorable Ones" where his character really shined and revealed that he was more than a cold hearted Imperial. Kallus continues his help as Fulcrum, with his clever ways that continue to make the character likable in this episode...I just pray he makes it past this season. Something tells me he's not. *tear*

    - Thrawn 6.jpg

Thrawn has been holding back most of this season playing the long chess game of taking out the Rebels and we are starting to see his plan finally come to life. It was also nice to see him in action handling threats with ease. Thrawn now knows who Kallus is and I am scared to DEATH for Kallus. Something tells me that major consequences are going to happen at the end of this season regarding Thrawn and the Rebel cell he is chasing.

    - AP-5 having as much screen time as Chopper
    8.jpg

My love for this droid is known around here and it was nice to see that he's not becoming the scantiest crew member of the Ghost. Usually Chopper is the one who gets to be the focus of these rescue missions, but AP-5 has stepped up as well in that regard. I know I keep saying it, but I just find that the writers get the perfect balance of humor with his character that is often times overused with Chopper.

    What didn't work for me:

    - Heroes as Stormtroopers...I've never...seen that....before.
    4.jpg

I've gotten a lot of flack for complaining about this in the past, but it's something that I've seen so many times on Rebels that it's gotten old. Was there any other way for the heroes to get saved without them dressing as Stormtroopers? Probably not. It's essentially a nitpick on a truly great episode.

    Quick Hitters:

    - It was nice seeing Colonel Yularen back being voiced by Tom Kane. Bringing back all those Clone Wars feels.
    3.jpg

    - I had no idea what that oval black ball was in A New Hope when Tarkin was sitting at table with his crew. I guess I know it's a holoprojector of some kind now. Am I the only one who didn't know/missed this one?
    7.jpg

This was a very entertaining and suspenseful episode that I wasn't expecting. I was worried sick for Kallus for most of the episode, followed by relief that quickly vanished when Thrawn revealed he knows that Fulcrum is Kallus. I pray that Kallus escapes with his life, but I'm not counting on it.

As always, I look forward to reading all of your thoughts on the episode. :)

This is one of my favorite episodes. I was feeling a little anxiety throughout wondering if Ezra and Kallus would be caught at anytime.

Also, was this the first time that Thrawn's flagship, the Chimeara, was mentioned?

    Anyway, great review!!

This better be a he doesn't know that I know that he knows situation. Kallus is aware how sharp Thrawn is and Thrawn would see through the setup. I hope Kallus is playing the long con.

    this was a great episode!
other than the droids wandering around and Thrawn not setting off a general alert, i feel like this was scripted pretty tight like back in the first season.
the show has gotten mushy since Ezra cut his hair, but hopefully it stays strong here on out.
i'm totally psyched for how Thrawn is going to use Kallus to his own advantage!

I liked the bit of high level tactics Kallus used. When he sent the battle droids after Thrawn it might have made it look like an assassination attempt was the purpose for office break instead of changing the map to the possible rebel base locations. Can't wait to see if it worked.

The suspense was real during this episode, I liked how quick on his feet is our Fulcrum. My heart breaks for Kallus though - Thrawn will end him AND use him making Rebels think that he betrayed them. We know when Thrawn will find the rebel base, so it's safe to assume Kallus will die during that two-part episode. I hope he at least gets a hero's death. *wipes tear*

Thrawn in action was awesome to see, both during training and in real fight. Lars Mikkelsen's voice in combination with the animation of Thrawn's facial expressions is pure win. Loved the episode.

The book comes out soon too!

i thought Thrawn said he knew they had broken in to tamper with the map. i don't think they got away with anything here.

Excellent episode. The suspense, Kallus showing his smart skills in framing List and helping Ezra, Thrawn showing that he is not just brains and that he can fight also, and Thrawn revealing that he knows who Fulcrum is at the end. Probably one of my favourite episodes

ahh the old "i'll use the spy to do my work" snore-fest.

Every week i get my hopes up and almost every week I'm bitterly disappointed. The quicker we get to Obi-Wan and Maul the better.

I really enjoyed this video and agree with the majority of points here.

I like the fact that Kallus got a full episode focus on him. The suspense at the end was very good. In some of the previous episodes, we used to reach its climax a few minutes ahead of the end and the last minutes would lose the intensity. In this one, we saw how Kallus had apparently brilliantely played his moves, and as a result of this, he decides to stay. That sense relief was later killed by Thrawns' last scene and leave us with a sense of fear for Kallus. Very nice story line.

I also liked that in this episode they didn't use Ezra as comic relief, as they did in the previous two episodes, which were awesome in pretty much all aspects, except Ezra's aspect.

Another good one I thought. Poor Kallus, so committed to maximising his utility he was deaf to my screen shouting he cut a path outta there with Ezra right at the beginning!
I seem to recall EU Thrawn having a "photographic" memory. The moment Kallus altered the chart I assumed he and Ezra had just unwittingly gifted Thrawn a rebel position.

It's appeared before, but I don't think it was specifically named in any episode prior to this.

Kallus logic: "I'm not going to leave the empire, there's no way two tactical geniuses will figure out my brilliant plan of switching data sticks with a simpleton".

The whole episode is set up on the premise that they are close to catching him. The episode then builds on that by bring in ANOTHER intelligence genius to expose the traitor, and the episode finished with Yularen debunking the Lyste ruse in 30 seconds flat.

Yet Kallus, whom was trained by Yularen and understood the genius of Thrawn from the sentry droid episode thinks they fell for all of it?

    Poor Kallus? It's pure stupidity.

While this was a great episode it would have been great to see what was the last straw that pushed him into being Fulcrum. It was one thing to feel a need to honor a debt to Zeb., it's another to actively work against the Empire. Someone made the comment about Yularen not being a mustache twirling villain and I agreed. I thought about it and changed my mind both Kallus and Yularen are. They both work for ISB they know exactly what the Empire is doing. Kallus knew about Wookie slaves and making people disappear. He himself in the first season killed a stormtrooper for no reason in anger. These aren't good guys. What made Kallus switch sides.

I thought this was a really good episode. I really enjoyed the first person opening of the episode from Kallus' perspective as its something we haven't seen before in Rebels, as far as I know. Kallus is definitely a goner now, which is a shame because he has a lot of depth and character to him now. Thrawn is moving forward in his plotting which is always nice to see. I'm not sure how I feel about him using blasters and martial arts although I guess it makes sense as he is an alien that has succeeded in the Empire because of his skills. I will agree that Kanan and Rex using their stormtrooper disguises to infiltrate the imperial base and save the day is a little old at this point but fortunately Governor Price and the Imperials saw right through it for once. Finally, I really liked the political intrigue going on with the Imperials as it fits their nature and adds a good bit of depth to them. Overall it was a good episode that furthers the Thrawn story line for this season.

In the EU Thrawn wasn't a physical threat so in Rebels with him being a martial arts master I hope he doesn't have a photographic memory as well. He has to have some weakness. I don't have a problem with the stormtrooper disguise because there are millions on troopers. The empire would grind to a halt if you had to do a check on every trooper at any given time. That trick was still working by the time Luke and Han used it in a New Hope.
