*Warning!!! Extreme Y-Wing love bias ahead*

Every time that Star Wars: Rebels dives deeper into the greater aspects of the mythology/history of the GFFA, the show is ALWAYS on point for me. When Rebels tries to have a fun, standalone episode, it sometimes succeeds, but is often a miss for me. This season has done the best balancing act thus far, but what category does "Secret Cargo" fall into? Does it dive deeper into the mythology/history of the GFFA or is it a cute, standalone episode?

    4.jpg

    SPOILERS AHEAD!!!!!!

    What worked for me:

    - OH MY GAWD!!!! Y-WINGS!!!!! *Heart eyes*
    6.jpg
I've gushed about seeing Y-Wings before in this season's premiere, but we get to see Y-Wings IN ACTION this time! In previous films like ANH and ROTJ, we don't really get to see how legit Y-Wings can be in battle. BUT...thanks to Rogue One and this episode of Rebels, people get to see how awesome these ships can be. I've loved the Y-Wing starship since I started watching Star Wars and I have no idea why I loved them, but I really, really do. I feel that they are the most under-appreciated ship in Star Wars and it's so nice to see them get some TLC finally. I owe all the writers a giant hug now.

    - The space battle in the nebula
    3.jpg
The space battles of Rebels have always been solid and entertaining, but the battle and escape through the nebula was a creative way of increasing the stakes without treading on the same space battle tropes they've had before. The visuals alone are really cool. It looks amazing, which I've been saying all season. The visuals have REALLY stepped up.

    - Thrawn scheming
    7.jpg
Thrawn's plan almost worked and it took a clever move by Hera to avoid capture (Thrawn under estimated those beautiful Y-Wings). Thrawn is getting closer and closer to capturing the Rebels and you have to think that his small failures are going to get him pissed off sooner than later, and he will bring the pain. He's only in this episode for a brief moment, but his presence has never been bigger.

    - The *official* forming of the Rebellion
    2.jpg
Mon Mothma has a speech in this episode that I didn't expect to happen. She broadcasts on the Holonet and calls out for all the Rebel cells to unite as one. I don't know why, but I didn't expect to see the actual formation of the Rebellion and a great speech by Mon Mothma to boot! Yes, I understand that the show is called Star Wars: Rebels and it seems obvious, but I thought they would save this for a book or something. I am very happy with this explanation of how Mon Mothma unites the Rebellion, and kudos to the writers for pulling it off the right way in a short amount of time.

    What didn't work for me:

    - Uh......not enough Y-Wings? ;)

    Quick hitters:

    - Jon Vander / Gold Leader AKA Ultimate Badass in cartoon form.
    Jon_vander.jpg 1.jpg

    - I am not a huge fan of Tie Fighters, but I really liked seeing the Tie Defender in action
    5.jpg

    - I liked seeing the Warhead probe droid again.
    9.jpg

Wow, a lot happens in this 22-minute episode of Rebels, but it all flows together beautifully. The Clone Wars series did wonders in 22 minutes, and the pacing of this episode reminded me a lot of that: doing more with limited time. I can't wait to see what the official formation of the Rebellion means for the Ghost crew. Big stuff is brewing and I can't wait to see it all go down!

As always, I look forward to reading all of your thoughts on today's episode!

    Paul

Does anyone know if that is the same nebula that Anakin takes a shortcut through in "clone wars"?

I liked more spotlight on Hera as a pilot and as a leader and her interaction with Mon Mothma - she even brought coffee to Hera. They are really building up Mon in the new canon, she is no longer just a lady in white, she got some nuances to her and I don't doubt that we will see more. The action was sweet and when those ships arrived I got unexpectedly choked up.

I feel Thrawn is scheming with more than just Rebels. That interplay with Pryce was weird - was he allowing her to take credit for capturing Mothma or there's more to it? I guess we might find out in the novel soon as she is one of the characters. But, he accurately predicted their route, I think if he was there instead of Pryce things might have ended differently for our Rebels.

Interesting thing - no lightsabers were ignited in this episode and that usually only happens when there are no Force users in the episode. I guess lightsaber is of no use against Defender.

I said it many times this season, Rebels are getting visually better and better. That nebula scenes were lovely.

Hera was my favorite character in season 1, but I don't think seasons 2 and 3 were good for her.

For the Rogue one trailer, seeing Mon Mothma was the most exciting scene. I wish her and Bail got a little more dialogue and weren't so wooden.

Although some might consider this a filler, I enjoyed this episode. The animation looks to be getting better with each episode and I'm glad to see the rebellion come together.

Well there was certainly a lot going on in this episode. First off, I really liked the use of the Y-wings against the Tie Defender. That chase and fight in the Nebula was very impressive visually. Is it bad that I really liked seeing the Ghost on fire? Mon Mothma and Hera really made this episode and I got to say Genevieve O'Reilly, really does the character a lot of justice. I think this episode also made it clear that Mon Mothma is the "official" leader of the Rebel Alliance. That speech was really important to the founding of the Rebel Alliance, which looks a lot bigger than I expect for this point in time. Finally, it was nice seeing the Infilitrator droid being used again and Thrawn continuing his plotting was interesting as well. Overall, I really enjoyed this episode story wise as this essentially is the official declaration of war against the Empire.

Wow. This show gets better with every episode, that's four very solid episodes in a row I think. Agree with what everyone has been saying - loved the Y-Wings and Gold Squadron. We're starting to get into a more R1/OT look now with the fighter pilot orange uniforms and the ships and have been thinking, there's plenty of rooms for comics and novels featuring the other rebel cells up to this point.

I absolutely loved seeing the TIE Defender in action. I was a huge fan of the old TIE Fighter PC game and the defender was my fav ship to fly.

I got a shiver up my spine when Mon said "Give them the coordinates for Dantooine" my mind's voice replied "Dantooine, they're on Dantooine."

The nebula battle was beautiful and reminded me of the classic Star Wars marvel comics from the 80's.

Wary of droid focused episodes because I think they have been the weaker ones in Rebels as a hole but the next one could buck that trend and even if it doesn't we have Twin Suns and the big finale up afterwards so onwards and upwards and I can't wait for season four now.

the stronger focus on the politics in "Secret Cargo" actually made the episode quite interesting. I'd actually liked to have seen Mon Mothma giving that speech in the senate instead of the cheap holo version.

Unfortunately Ezra, (imo), is THE main problem with this show. His character has lost all direction and interest. I just don't care about him anymore and conversely the whole "ezra force" story. To go back to "conflicted ezra" is pointless, he's nothing more than a two-bit side character. Sabine should have been the focus of this show.

A couple weeks ago I was griping about how I was getting bored with this season of Rebels and that I wanted to see more of what was going on with the rebellion (e.g. Mon Mothma) and more of Thrawn. I could not be more pleased with the last 2 episodes. Pure Joy! I just needed to learn a little patience.

Enjoyed the episode, but a few things were a little wonky.

The ending was a little too neat for my liking. So Mon just openly broadcast across the Galaxy from a "secret" location? The entire Rebel fleet is able to jump here no problem, but the Empire isn't?

I didn't like how Gold Squadron got completely wiped out except for Dutch and unnamed Gold-two lady. I'd prefer if the show spent a little more time trying to maintain micro continuity, and that we'd see a few more pilots that aren't completely red shirts. These were clearly unique assets as opposed to the visor faced no-names we used to get. While it's nice to see even the tiny characters get more fleshing out, it really raises the question of why even spend time on animating these people for the whole 2 seconds of screen time they get?

Thrawn is starting to play a larger role in the episodes, and I feel that's an intentional build-up to the season finale. The whole season he's been working behind the scenes to gather info, but now it seems he's begun to play an active part in hunting the Ghost. I like that, and I expect that all the people who have been misappropriating the word "Filler" all season will be surprised at how those earlier episodes play into the finale.

The Nebula was a cool feature, and I hope we continue to see cool fantastic space oddities like it.

    Oh YES!!!

    (ghost)(hera)(x-wing 2)(tie)

I obviously have to echo the above "WOW"s (!!!)

    I'm just dazzled.

    GO Y-WINGs!!
(Hey ...I thought ion blasts were blue...but I'm old school. I'll take whatever.)

This is precisely the 'Rebels' I've been hoping for ...And willing to put my money into, –long term.
As far as my tastes are concerned, they absolutely nailed this episode. –Easily in my top five of 'Rebels'.

I utterly appreciate the *rich, but not overly saccharine* female character representation here...it's on the right path to be sure. Hera herself is just a brilliant character.

So much more to say, but many of the (above) people have already said it much better than I could hope to.

    but...wow!
    So beautifully done!

And— If *you folks* are reading this- "Thank you!" ...You've definitely got my money for season four! ...and hopefully *five* too(?) ❤

Upon reflection, this is hugely important episode for the overall Star Wars story which would usually be reserved for movies. Mothma's defection from the Empire? The first gathering of what will become Rebel Alliance? Mon's speeches were fantastic. I am really pleased that Rebels get to tell these more important stories and are no longer just a sideshow characters. If this trend continues, it bodes well not just for the Rebels but also future animation shows.

I guess the speech was relayed to some comm center and then broadcasted. The other possibility is that Thrawn gets to know the location from which the message was sent and uses it against the rebels. We have to wait and see.

So members of gold squadron have issues with Phoenix squadron because they have brought heat or tigthter security on the Rebels in general. If members of the rebellion have a problem with that no wonder they have problems with Saw Gerrera.

It wasn't totally clear but I think you may have it wrong. They were trying to get Mon to a specific location. I think all the potential rebels knew the place, and were just waiting for the call to attend "the meeting".

Great episode! Most of the things I enjoyed have already been covered by other users so far.

One minor gripe though. Was anyone else annoyed by Ezra seemingly being a more competent pilot than Gold Leader? It kind of reminded me of the annoying tendency that they had in early episodes of TCW to have Ahsoka acting a bit too competently in comparison to established characters who were more experienced. Additionally, we never saw Hera teaching Ezra how to fly, not was it even mentioned. It's not unbelievable of course, but it just felt like it came out of nowhere. In contrast, we had a whole episode dedicated to Kanan teaching Sabine how to wield a lightsaber.

Yes I'm dating myself but did anybody think the nebula scene was an homage to Star Trek Wrath of Khan.

I didn't think Ezra showed better piloting skills than gold leader. He had info that apparently they didn't have. Such as don't directly engage a Tie defender it's better armed and has shields. Plus Ezra all though not explicitly indicated was using the force to fly and set up the shot for gold leader. Kinda a throw back to the fight against the walkers in the sand storm.
