Overall I found this episode to be pretty middling. I don't have much to say about this one.
    The good
    * Rex's PTSD
    * They made the destroyers a real threat

    bad
    * The episode was cheesy filler (sounds yummy) to me. "ezra you ended the clone wars" Why would the droid need to have a delusion fulfilled?
    * Reducing Zeb to a damsel in distress was weird.

It was fun and I'm sure it is an "end" to The Clone Wars and I loved that they used TCW music in the credits.

But I thought that stormtrooper commander was Cody :/

    Rex and K.jpg

I have been saying that this current season of Star Wars: Rebels has been a lot stronger than the previous season. One of my complaints from the previous season was episodes coming off like a forced filler story to help make up an entire season of 20+ episodes. Was "The Last Battle" our first filler episode of the year? Let's find out!

    SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!

    What worked for me:

    - Seeing all those old Battle Droids again:
    Droids.png

I was in High School when TPM was released and it took me a number of years to understand what George Lucas was trying to accomplish with the idea of using Battle Droids in the first place. It wasn't until I fell in love with TCW that I fully got behind what they are and their use. Some fans won't like a call back to the old droid humor with "Rodger, Rodger," but I did. This episode seems like a love letter to all Prequels/Clone War era aficionados, and I think that Lucasfilm/ DIsney needs to keep acknowledging this era of Star Wars instead of ignoring it.

    - The Empire vs The Separatists:
    Empire Vs Droids.png

Often times I find myself in deep thought (not really), wondering if we would ever see those old clankers take on the awful aim of Stormtroopers. We get to see a little of that in this episode. It was a very "cross the streams" kind of moment for me. It was quite the sight to see and a fantastic visual. I hope that is only a tease of what we could see this season instead of a one-time thing. I would love the Rebels to receive more help from the Separatists' army.

For instance: more Droid Destroyers vs Walkers? Sign me up.

    - A helmeted Rex back in action:
    Rex.jpg

I LOVE TCW and Rex is a big reason that is the case. That series did an AMAZING job of giving the Clones some semblance of individuality. None stood out more than Anakin's right hand man, Rex. Rex's role has been one that I think is appropriate for the show (behind the scenes, giving input and advice for the Rebellion group with which he's stationed). It was nice to see Rex finally put on that old helmet and get back to action again. Hopefully this won't be the last time we see him don his helmet!

    What didn't work for me:

    - The ending of the Clone Wars?!?!?!!??!!?
    End.png

Yes...that's what happens at the end. Rex and the tactical droid he teamed up with convince both sides to turn on the Empire, and state to Ezra...that the Clone Wars have finally ended. Yeah. I really didn't enjoy that. Personally, I feel that the Clone Wars ended with Order 66 and truly no sides won the war. Trying to put some kind of "pretty bow" on this episode only drags it down. Instead of the episode focusing on a "winner," I feel that it would have been better to have a majority of the episode be about a full team-up of the Rebels and Separatists army.

    Quick hitters:

    - Looks like the Phantom is about to be replaced with a sheathipede class shuttle. Uhhhh....ok. New Ship.jpg

Well folks, IMO...we have our first "filler" episode of the season. Was it bad? No, but I think it was the weakest episode by far this season. By using TCW callbacks, this episode succeeded for me, despite the awful ending. I just hope this isn't the last we see of the Separatist Army this season.

As always, I look forward to reading all of your reactions to the episode!

I loved that the Clone Wars theme played over the end credits.

It truly is the end of the Clone Wars.

Just saw it and enjoyed seeing Captain Rex back in action!

I really hope Filoni keeps his word and make him part of General Solo's Pathfinders (yeah, that bearded guy in ROTJ).

The plus is that, maybe what they said about this being the end of The Clone Wars for them made sense in some way. Recently in the Ahsoka novel we read about The Siege of Mandalore and how Ahsoka with Rex were there fighting. We know some bits of what it happened, but it seems there was no real closure for Rex at that point of time.

Also, having TCW theme song at the end of the episode: awesome!

As I said before, thanks to TCW I have grown fonder of the PT characters and that timeframe in SW as well. Totally agree what you say about Rex.

Actually, I was going through the Umbara story arc from TCW Season 4 and quite curiously paused at this frames:

    Rex FTW!

    I enjoyed this one.

    A fan of:
    • The nostalgia aspect.
    • Creative and thoughtful theme.
    • Rex not holding back on Ezra when he jeopardised the team/mission.
    • Ezra demonstrating some wisdom and Jedi-esque peace-keeping skill.
    • Kanan Jarrus smiling again.
    Not such a fan of:
    • Non-sense for the sake of story. E.g. lasers that don't pierce clothing (Ezra) or old clone armour (Rex) but cut through stormtrooper armor like butter.
No biggie, I guess I can suspend disbelief by imagining the droid power was super low and the Empire cut corners on their dispensable trooper defenses.

I liked this episode. Like for many here, The Clone Wars did a wonder for my acceptance of the prequel era and the characters. I truly loved what they did for the clones and Rex was always my favorite. It is good to see him have some closure and be a commander again. When he let loose on Ezra, that was a fist pump moment for me - people should do that more often. :D

I also like connection with Onderon arc and seeing Kalani again. I have an inkling we might see him and his droids more down the line. And, just that this wasn't a complete sideshow episode - we got a new Phantom. Overall, another good episode. Next time - Mandalorians! Is this a beginning of Sabine's arc?

I really enjoyed that episode, especially the war game character and the different stages they have to survive. Kalani was pretty cool and I wonder where he ends up now, I don't think it is a filler, like "Chopper base" wasn't one either. Kalani was in the Onderon Arc fighting for the Separatists against Saw Guerera..

Aww noticed that too! When Kalani said about the bombs he would've used on them and he replies "oh thanks!".

I know! Especially from episode I when he risked it everything and lost the Phantom.

    What a genuinely fun episode!
    I *love* walkers. (at-at)

There's also a lot of joy/nostalgia in the image of a stormtrooper firing upon a fleeing ship. --Subtle pleasures.

Pablo said it nicely in 'RR' - (rephrased): "..,it was like playing with toys combined from separate timelines..." –exactly!

Aside from the interesting revelations, plot seeds, and Rex's excellent ongoing character building, this episode was simply an absolute *hoot* to watch!

I'm continually dazzled by the writing team's ability to pop this stuff into 22 minutes. Bloody fantastic job! (Yes, sometimes the outcome is a bit squashed and awkward, but this particular episode was quite nicely formed, in my opinion.)

(And YES- I *relished* the Rex's moment of finger-wagging/berating at Ezra... –well overdue!)

I had a fun time with it-- and ultimately, that's my personal sum goal with participation and support of the general SW franchise; I don't expect to be gobsmacked by its profundity. (Though, on occasion...)

Since I have been going through the Clones Wars episodes (I'm on season 4) and then watching this, it was just so right. Loved Rex in the episode, and the whole how they came together at the end. The Stormtroopers coming off the transport with the attitude. It was a fun episode, and I loved how they highlighted Rex and it gave a bit to his character of what a retired Clone may feel with the programming and everything. Gave a lot of questions of how the Clone Wars were orchestrated, and what it did and how everyone was played in the end, just a lot to think about with Star Wars as a whole.

I really enjoyed this episode. It was a good throwback to TCW. It also added more to who the character of "old" Rex is very well. It also summarized the intent of the Clone Wars when Ezra had his moment of wisdom very nicely. Overall it was a fun episode.

It was pretty fun story if you're a fan of TCW. I actually like the battle droids even with the Roger Roger b.s. I fell in love with the droids from Mr. Bones in the Aftermath series and it is nice to see that there our droids still out and about in the galaxy. The idea of a group of droids out there that still think the Clone Wars is still going on makes me want to find more groups like this. Even though this episode doesn't do anything to move along the rebels story arc, besides a new ship, this is a great story in the SW lore as a stand alone episode.

This season of Rebels have been filler episodes. Kinda like the first 2 seasons of TCW. I do like TCW nostalgia and spitting knowledge to Ezra. They gave us the feeling of the past with Kanan and Ezra and the Jedi ways. Gave Rex closure. The end battle wasnt all that and the droids where funny like they were. feels like they filled the week out. I think with R1 coming out Rebels season 3 hasnt been up to par with the series. Feels like its unreleased episodes/side mission bonuses. I hope the rest of the season shows alil more of a R1 theme episodes just to get us as fans going.

Rebel fodder season 3 so far. I think its cause of R1 that the Rebels Series took alil hit so far. Season 2 was at least kept a storyline from episode to episode. But I feel ya @alex, it was a filler episode. We get maul on the ghost in one then leave, then wedge, then Thrawn(the worst episode for introduction), now Rex's PTSD, its not in order but you get my point. I think they are pushing on R1 and might see more rebellionish episodes for season 3. We just got the jedi/lightsaber episode so now the focus is on Hera, Zeb, Sabine this next month. I think we get a wedge episode in with Hera before the season break. as well as Sabine possibly getting the dark saber before the half. Zeb will encounter Kallus as well. Seems like alot for the first half, I dont know when rebels will end like they did last season. with R1 here I can see Rebels juicing some Rebellionish episodes on right before R1. Disney is killing my SW vibe with these showing. at lease they kept the spirit of the main films.
