Star Wars: Rebels returns for the FINAL season! I'm not surprised that we are getting closure this early in the series' lifespan. There is only so much story that can be told before it starts to impede on ANH and Rogue One territory. Normally, Rebels starts off with a one hour special "movie," but this season is different. It's still a two-parter, but the actual episodes are spaced into two different ones. So let's dive in and see what this episode is all about!

SPOILERS BELOW!!!!! READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!!!

    What worked for me:

    - The Return of Bo Katan
    BL4LcXoL.jpg

I have not been shy saying that I prefer The Clone Wars (TCW) series to Rebels. This is for MANY reasons, but one would be getting interesting characters like Bo Katan. When we last saw her, Bo Katan was left fighting a new uprising left in Maul's absence on Mandalore and it seems that hasn't stopped. We still have the war-proud super commando that we got in TCW.

It was nice getting closure in seeing her finally get the full support of the remaining Mandalorian houses and become the leader of Mandalore. It's through these two episodes that we see why the Mandalorians don't take up the battle with the Rebels, and instead focus on reclaiming their own lands. I wouldn't mind more stories regarding this time with Bo Katan leading all the clans, btw...Hear that, Lucasfilm????

    - The History of Mandalorians
    Eh8X72Zo.jpg
Maybe I totally missed this somewhere, but it was cool getting some tidbits of info regarding the Mandalorians and their armor. When confronted with the idea of using different armor to go into battle, it was explained that the armor they all have is passed down from the warriors to the next wave with the purpose of being always reused. Not to use it would be a slap to the face of those who have worn it before (my words, not theirs, lol).

    - The Powerful Imagery
    P4dliG_l.jpg
There were a lot of scenes in these episodes, notably the first, that were quite interesting shots. For being a kids show, Rebels really does push the envelope when it comes to the power of suggestion. These powerful images deal with dark, heavy material. If I was a kid watching this episode, some of these scenes would have blown me away. Heck, I was blown away as an immature 35 year old! It's nice that Disney/Lucasfilm want to show how real war is.

    What didn't work for me:

    - The Scope of the Battles:
    -8rhX8IT.jpg
I have said multiple times in past reviews that one of my biggest complaints about Rebels is that the budget really hurts the storytelling. It is obvious that Rebels doesn't have the budget that TCW had, as the scope of the battles are more minimal. Don't get me wrong, I liked the battles with the Mandalorians and Stormtroopers in these episodes, but at the same time there weren't too many people on either side to make the scope seem big enough. There were some cool scenes, but I feel that it could have been a lot more epic. Not bad by any means, but I wish I could have seen a bigger battle.

    Quick Hitters:

    - Ezra's helmet is actually pretty cool (I've ignored his jetpack in this review because...it's not even worth bringing up...er...wait...)

    - The happiest Mandalorians ever
    ina65V2q.jpg

    - Which one did it better? ( Like I even have to ask. Child, please...it's OBVIOUSLY The Clone Wars!) CloneWars_Obi-Wan_Mandalore_GreatShot.png

"Heroes of Mandalore" was not a bad couple of episodes. It was good that we got closure with Sabine and the Mandalore storyline, but it's left me wondering where Mandalore goes from here. Do they stay put and focus on their own war? Do some of the Mandalorians join the Rebellion?

Leave a comment and let me know what you all think!

I think Sabine handing over the Dark Saber foretells her coming demise.

    Pretty decent episodes!

Though (subjectively speaking), it’s not the Rebels storyline I’m eager for, I’m glad Sabine’s story is essentially resolved. (Or at least moved greatly toward resolution.)

From the upcoming episode titles alone, I’m most curious about ‘Kindred’. While it’s probably about Zeb, it may possibly (hopefully) be about my favourite Togruta.

In all the episode was good. I like how they shot some of the scenes and the whole storyline was good. it reminded me of R1 with the whole plot about a weapon who sabine turned it around on them. cinematic wise as well, very R1/Ep. 7 like with the whole close up of the emperial ship and stations, Kanan had a Vader-esque scene like R1. The ending was similar to the endings of Ep 1/4. I would of like Sabine become a leader for Mandalore but maybe down the season. it does give you closure to the whole Mandalore saga and Sabine story regarding going back home and all is at its end. now just seems that they will close out Zeb's story, Hera will finish the season with Kanan/Ezra story folding this season. You think budget wise they would support the final season but Disney seems less fulfill with Rebels. Or its Disney and not CN where they could give alil more storyline and action. I didnt like the whole humor with Ezra not working a Jetpack, plus i hope they show case more force powers with Ezra. They didnt want to show alot in this episode but you think he would be far more advance like in S3. Kanan showed alil deep connection in the episode regarding him as Jedi.

Dave Filoni has much more to show us as he has stated. alot of questions will be answers and alot of possiblities regarding the whole story on SW. I hope Rebels story falls into certain storylines in the Episode arc. I think it will fall into R1 line with characters and a slightly mentioning of the whole Death Star thing...

May the force be with you...

Can a mod merge the threads? Seems a bit silly to have two competing threads for the same topic.

@Hermann22 If the mods are ok with it, can you post your review thread in advance, maybe the night before? It can be blank with the great content edited in later, but it would seem to coral the conversation and keep mods from merging threads later.

The reason that thread was made was to have a discussion place for the people who saw the episode early until the "official" review was released. The episode then was released several hrs earlier than the review was. Now, that there is only the 9pm showing hopefully we won't need a thread for these new episodes as the review ought to be written shortly.
