What did you think of the episode? I enjoyed the episode very much because we got a few spoilers & the fight scenes were great.
With the Empire tightening its cordon around Lothal, the Rebels look for a new smuggling route. Hera and Sabine head out to the world of Concord Dawn to request safe passage from the Protectors, the Mandalorian faction that controls the world. However, the Protectors reveal that they have sided with the Empire and immediately attack. Hera and Sabine manage to escape, but Hera is critically wounded. Kanan and Sabine return to Concord Dawn, with Kanan still wanting to negotiate with the Protectors and Sabine wanting to get revenge for Hera. They discover the Protector's leader, Fenn Rau, is being bribed by the Empire. Kanan meets with Rau, revealing that Rau had saved his life during the Clone Wars. Meanwhile, Sabine attempts to sabotage the Protectors' fighters but is caught. She reveals to the Protectors that she is from House Vizsla, and challenges Rau to single combat. Working together, Kanan and Sabine capture Rau, and he agrees to allow the Rebels safe passage through Concord Dawn

This episode was better the second time watching it. I'm not real familiar with the Mandalorian episodes of TCW so I may go back and watch them.
There's no coincidence of timing for the release of the Kanan issue #10 yesterday with this Rebels episode.

I tried watching it this morning with the kids and ended up missing some of it. Watching Kanan take down that ship was pretty awesome!!! Will have to watch again tonight after they are in bed to soak it all in a lil better.

I thought this episode had a lot to like and dislike.

    The good:
    * the image of a livable planet that is 1/3 blown away was beautiful. It doesn't really make sense, but star wars isn't hard sci-fi.

    * Hera getting blown up and almost dying. I love Hera, but it is important to see heroes struggle and lose sometimes. Star wars has never really set up any good pilot rivalries. Han and Poe just stomped legions of faceless pilots. I'm hoping to see Hera get a rematch at some point.

    * We learn who Sabine's mother is and finally confirm the sabine/satine connection.

    the weird:

    * concord dawn's people are madalorians? Under the direction of George we are told that Jango isn't a mandalorian in the clone wars arc. In a behind the scenes (the did rebels recon like vids for TCW, but I forget what they were called) Filoni says "everyone assumes that Jango is a mandalorian because of the armor, but george says it isn't so". Now that George is gone, Filoni is free to recanonize the Fetts as mandalorians.

    * We learn that Sabine is from house Vizla, but this is undercut by learning that there are only a few mando houses. It isn't a family name, but more of a loose affiliation that can change over time and belongs to like 1/4 of the mandos.

    the bad:

    * Kanan's/Rau's reasoning and motivation. Kanan wants to recruit concord dawn to the rebellion so he kidnaps their leader? Then Rau rolls over and says, "give them safe passage and cover up for them". Seems like the rebels bullied/blackmailed Concord dawn into giving some sort of aid.

p.s. The preview for the next episode looks terrible IMO. Zeb has become by least favorite character from the main crew.

Funny that a lot of your likes are my dislikes.

    Likes:
    • It was a meatier story than a lot of others. Somewhat convoluted, but it told a lot about Sabine in some cool ways.
    • Kanan's humor and standing up for his Jedi ways was fun
    • Chopper protesting when Kanan wanted him to go on the mission, while everyone else was begging to go. Pure gold!
    • The Mando ships. Spinning Pew Pew!
    • The Western style to the conflict. Particularly Kanan and Rau talking over the bowl of soup.
    • The overall tension of the episode was great

    Dislikes:
    • The half-destroyed planet - it looked very cool, but I couldn't get past it no longer being able to rotate...I know it's Space Fantasy, but it stretched my limits...
    • Hera moving through hyperspace with such a damaged ship. Maybe the physics are waaaaay different in hyperspace, but it seemed too glaring for a ship that damaged to be able to have the "strength" to make it into and through Hyperspace. Again, the visuals were awesome tough - the ship coming out of hyperspace in that state was one of the best things I've seen in Star Wars.
    • Karan being able to hang on for so long on Rau's ship. When he disabled it was great, but he was barely hanging on way too much for me. Could have easily done the same thing without traveling so far.
Hmmm, I'm sensing a trend here with my dislikes...I realize they are in the realm of nitpicking the reality of a space fantasy, but they all were noticed by either my 11 yr old girls in addition to me, and usually they aren't too picky.

Overall, I thought the episode was really good.

Now it makes me want to really invest into this show...could Sabine maybe be A Kenobi since he and Satine had a "thing" ?

It was ok, but I wish Rau was not defeated so easily. He did not seem like a Mandolorian warrior running away and getting captured. Also, I think I noticed a canon problem. Kanan said that his master was killed on Mygeeto, but in the comics it was Kaller. At least that is how I heard it.

In this week's Kanan comic (#10), we see the scene from the Clone Wars in which Kanan and his master, Depa Billaba, are rescued by Fenn Rau and his Skull squadron on Mygeeto.

    I guess there are other females on Mandalore ? Satine had a sister from House Viszla;

Satine's name is Kryze not Wren.

What if "Wren" is just a title of a group sort of like "The Night's a watch."

I do not know whether Filoni is changing Jango Fett's background as you are suggesting. When the Mandalorians spot Sabine for the first time, they assume that she is a bounty hunter and that she has stolen the armour. I thought that was a clear reference to Jango not being Mandalorian.

However, I agree the facts that (non-Mandalorian) Jango provided the DNA for the clones and that (real) Mandalorians, like Fenn Rau, subsequently trained the clones are confusing.

And it doesn't mean Satine's not her aunt. She had a sister that lived, who *was* a member of Death Watch. I am pretty sure she is Satine's niece.

Could be confusing if one forgets that many groups helped in the Clone Training Program, and it's a safe bet that any Mandos who were still loyal to the Republic would be asked to help, even if we didn't see them at the facility during the Clone Wars. We did see other non-Jedi trainers, so this wouldn't be a stretch imho.

I loved the spinning ships too. Must have made them much harder to hit.

I agree that the planet made no sense. How could it hold onto its atmosphere? It would either finish breaking apart or the gravity would recall the chunks, likely rendering the planet uninhabitable. I just like the visual.

I agree. Filoni said so in the rebels recon.

edit: Bo Katan is the mama.

Jango was changed to a concord dawnian at some point. TCW said that Jango wasn't really a mandalorian. Rebels just retconed this by having Concord dawnians be a Mandalorian faction not recognized by the greater mandalorian government.

This isn't 100% proof, but strongly suggest that Jango is now a Mando.

What I always thought about Jango Fett was tat he just so happens to visit Mandalore one time and trained with them and became a bounty hunter .

Sabine being Satine's niece is possible but she's not a Kenobi.

Certainly not. Kenobi's thing was with Satine, not Bo Katan.

EDIT: from the Rebels recon, when Filoni talks about someone within the Death WAtch being related to Sabine, I find it no coincidence they show us a screen grab of Bo Katan.

Hell, it even make Sabine's name kinda make sense in a way: as an indirect homage to her sister, Bo Katan names her daughter Sabine.

Edit 2: I wanna know how they all feel about Darth Maul.... perhaps this is what further split the Mandos...
