Fellow Star Warians a question as really pop in my mind in the last couple of days, and despite initially i was absolutelly against it i now wander and even cherish about this concept. What i would like to ask you all is...

Are you ready for the StarWars Original Trilogy Reboot?

Considering the original movies are already almost 40 years old and they've been subject to several changes and upgrades over the time, comparing Special Êditions to Original Editions, it's not a really bad idea at all, and it's something that's being done in the movie industry with great sucess, consider Tim Burton's Batmans and the Nolan ones, they're both good movies, even the Star Trek reboots are very nice to watch. On the other hand are we ready to mess with the real classics?, Godfather and Indiana Jones never get Reboots.

But just imagine the possibilities, we could watch a new, sligthly diferent, version of the story we now, correcting some minor mistakes and exploring new ideas. A new steping stone with better connections on both prequel and sequel movies.

The technical upgrades are mind blowing to even consider, just keep everything real and not over CGI, imagine ANH or a ESB developed with huge production budgets. The acting is not an argument just try to decide the best Joker, Jack or Heath?

My main virtue over this Reboot would be the story upgrade, droping all the mistakes like Luke and Leia Romance or Obi Wan retirement, and create a solid story from episode I to Episode IX, they could introduce a big bunch of new characters or just bring in to cannon roles the best parts of the expanded universe. I believe the Star Wars Universe grow so wildely after the New Hope that many thing got out of hand and this would be a nice way to bring everything together.

Not to mention the main argument to all of this work out, first of all it would bring plenty of money to the studios even with long time fans disapproval and internet bashing we all would line up to watch it over and over again, and this would bring SW into the XXI Century grabing all the new viewers just like was intended for the Star Trek Reboot.

Bottom Line a Star Wars Original Trilogy Full Remake isn't necessarily a bad thing and it might deliver some great features to the SW Universe but it all ends up into economical profit and the studios and producers would cash in BIG TIME with a move like this.

    What do you all think?

Maybe INSTEAD of doing this...how about they make an alternate reality movie thing based on the original-original draft of the very first movie on hbo..

No one wants this. The original trilogy doesn't need a remake. Many, many, many fans are still annoyed with the Special Editions. People have loved the original trilogy for nearly forty years. They don't need to be fixed, they don't need to be changed, and they sure as hell don't need to be remade. Not every single thing needs to be remade. The only thing that should be done is to release a beautiful, high quality Blu-Ray version of their theatrical versions.

This is not a good example. The Batman films are adaptation, so reboots and re-imagining work better.

That would be interesting, though Dark Horse actually did a comic adaptation of it a while back, basing the artwork on early concept art for A New Hope.

How come there is no option for "I will always adore the original films and the original continuity, and If they did do a reboot that I hope the original continuity would continue as the primary and I would just watch the reboot because I am curious about alternate interpretations of classic stories and will hold no ill will towards teh reboot and instead judge it on its own merits instead of assuming it will be intrinsically bad"

I don't think there's any need. The OT holds pretty well visually-wise with effects that still fool you. It tells the story well and it's a classic. Not to mention that the bitching of the fandom would never let anyone do it. Not even Lucas himself would get away with it.

    That being said...

If they respect the original material, why not give it a chance? After all, there are issues in the originals, let's not lie (delete that Luke - Leia kiss kthxb). Damn, say it's an AU and call it a day. I would go and see it out of curiosity and judge it fairly, but I wouldn't get crazy over it either in a good or in a bad way.

And if they reboot it they'd have to reboot the entire saga which would be way too costly to do .

The fandom would complain if Disney decides to reboot all of Lucas' six movies.

The only effect to me that doesn't hold is the black and whiteness of the sequence during the death star run in ANH .

That's not really the effect, just the color palette chosen for the models in that scene.

    But you said:
The colors chosen has nothing to do with the quality of the effect itself.
