Thanks. It would have me bawlin' like a baby, for sure. Her finally demonstrably using the Force on screen like we know she can/should/should have already before now. Not just reactionary (like with the death of Han), but proactively using the Force. And using it out of love and compassion and "family." Kleenex-city.

Recast Leia. I have no qualms with this and think it is the best way to carry on the story of the ST.

Either do a better job at the CGI than they did on Tarkin or just leave her out. No one can replace my Princess! (leia)

In pure Carrie fashion a few years back at a dinner for Lucas she joked (though its true) that George owns her likeness. George through ILM about 10 years ago was researching and looking into buying up the rights to deceased actors. Clearly they worked things out for Peter Cushing. But I think its an idea that Carrie understood was coming and was inevitable.

Lucasfilm probably owns likenesses of many of their actors like Harrison or Mark just in case. (especially Ford with all his daredevil antics!)

It's an interesting thought, for sure.

Maybe there's a real legal answer to it, but where does a character end and an actor begin? For instance, I don't think anyone would argue that Anthony Daniels has much claim on what Disney uses C-3P0 for, or Prowse has any on Vader's mask.

But Hammil on Luke's face? Carrie on Leia?

What about Ray Park and Darth Maul?

How much of an actor's actual likeness has to resemble the character's likeness before ownership comes into question?

You could have a different actor play Maul since you can't really tell it's him anyway.

    Recast = Full blown blasphemy

And the CGI is sketchy at this point. Tarkin was fun, but the Leia in Roque One was down right creepy.

I wold disagree on C-3PO. Sure, he doesn't have a face of Anthony Daniels, but whenever C-3PO appears, he is played/voiced by Anthony and right now he appeared as C-3PO more than a hundred times! I don't know how much is Daniels involved in putting his droid into storyline of various projects but based on his interactions with Dave Filoni during SWC he lobbies for as many appearances as possible.

Daniels had his hand in the limited C3PO comic series.

No matter if it's been months already after her death... it still hurts.

And I do think there won't be a unanimous choice accepted by the fans. I would not have a big trouble with a limited use of CGI for Episode IX, but it is not my decision to make. I guess whatever they decide, we will always think about the alternative that never happened (Carrie Fisher doing Episode IX as well).

    Agree my friend.

I saw again RO yesterday - thank you Netflix! - and it is not a big difference.

MBB! I just wonder what @James Baney and @John Hoey would say about it LOL! (End of The Resistance Broadcast shameless plug :D)

I actually thought Leia was done better than Tarkin. You could still tell Leia was CGI but it seemed much more polished than Tarkin to me.

I'm against recasting Leia and also wasn't a fan of CGI Leia in R1. Ford, Fisher and Hamill are iconic as it would never feel right if they aren't playing their part.

There needs to be some sort of meeting with Ben. And if it doesn't happen in VIII, then I'm okay with a very limited appearance in IX using archival footage. No dialogue necessary, just a short scene. Leia and Ben seeing each other. Whatever happens with their characters beyond that can be related via dialogue, but we need to see them together.

We don't even need to see her face, really. (I honestly think Leia in Rogue One would have had more impact if we only saw her from behind. Makes it more of a 'mystery' as a one-off film, rather than fan service.) So I'd be okay with a "recasting" so long as it was only a stand-in and we didn't actually see her face or hear her voice.

@duckface we've seen Carrie and Adam both in costume in the BTS vid and Adam also said he saw her that way the last day he filmed. I am pretty positive they will meet in VIII.

This is 100% how I feel.

The fact of the matter is that Carrie Fisher was Leia. No one else can take on that role. With Carrie gone, in a sense, it feels like Leia's gone, too, and The Last Jedi (or possibly Episode IX) needs to bring us some closure. They don't need to drag this out any longer. I'm still not completely convinced that she survives The Last Jedi, and even though I never wanted her character to die, at this point, it's really the only option, and I hope they just get it over with and do it in a way that's meaningful and truly honors the legacy of both the character and the actress.

Billie is really the only person that I'd feel comfortable taking the role, although even with CGI, it would have to be as a younger Leia because I really don't see how they could make her look like Leia does in this trilogy without turning it into a cringeworthy mess (like Guy Pearce in Prometheus). Really, I think she should've been the stand-in for Leia in Rogue One instead of Ingvild Deila (I don't think she has anywhere near enough resemblance to her, and I think picking someone like Billie could have helped them to make her look even more like she did in A New Hope).

Cherry Jones definitely bears some resemblance to Carrie Fisher in her final days, but I still don't feel like that role should be passed on to anyone else. Regardless of whether people think that's what Carrie wanted or not, the fact of the matter is that it was Carrie's role and no one wants to see anyone other than her in it.
