Hey folks, anyone here play the Red Dead Online for PC? I've been trying to get into it but its a little hard for new beginners. Anyone who's played it for a while, can you offer money making tips or ways to level up? What is your opinion on the game?

I play it on PS4. I don't get to play as much as I'd like, but I really enjoy it especially after completing the story. I can give you quite a few pointers.

First thing is, do the dailies to earn gold. Slow at first, but it starts snowballing after a while, and you use gold to unlock stuff, including the roles (trader, collector, moonshiner, and bounty hunter.) I would say unlock the collector role first, as that is the easiest and fastest role to rank up in. When you collect a bunch of stuff, find the gypsy (just google red dead online where is madam nazar and there's sites that tell you where she is at on the day) and sell her things you have multiples of. Always keep at least one collectable to try and complete a set, which earns a ton of cash. I usually look for her about once a week, and just collect while I'm doing other stuff in the meantime. If you really want to be hardcore about getting money, I hear there are also sites that tell you where all the card, jewelry, etc. collectables are at, and you can get them all fast (gonna be a lot of riding though.) I don't do that personally, I like to just find stuff on my own... but it's an option.

I forget what you have to do to get your camp, I think just complete the intro mission... but once you do, hunt animals, and donate the full animal to Cripps. Do not skin them (unless that is one of the dailies.) I wish I had known that when I started, I used to skin them all and I was wasting so much. Do not sell any of it either, it doesn't pay much. Giving it to Cripps/your camp adds up and you can make decent money in the trader role. Plus it's fun.

When you get to the point where you go on a selling mission for trader role, I recommend staying local at first, as other players cannot interfere with you. If you do the far sell, other players can. And when Cripps needs you to a supply run, do it yourself, don't order supplies. You get 500xp for doing it yourself, and it lasts longer.

I'd also recommend staying in 'defensive' mode at first when you're learning the game. It makes it where any stupid players that want to try and shoot you for no reason can't auto lock on to you. Also staying in your camp is a 'safe zone' as well as the stores in towns.

Bounty hunter is a fun role, but it is the slowest to level up. That's the only role I haven't maxed yet.

Go to options and make sure you are in free aim, at least on foot. You get 5 xp for auto aim kills, but you get 25 xp for free aim. It will add up in a hurry. What I have always done is go free aim on ground but auto on horse, so if I get into a bad situation where surviving is more important than the points, I have that option. I've found it to be a good compromise.

Don't bother with the stranger missions unless you're bored, or if you don't have the gold to unlock a role yet. But once you have a role started, stick to that...they are more fun, pay better, better xp.

Oh, and do not fast travel. It'll burn through what money you have, and half the fun is the stuff you find along the way.

Thanks for tips, @Desert Walker! I have always wanted to try to get into the online portion of this game, but its hard to get into it when you don't know what your doing. I've played the actual solo campaign through its entirety. It was so long but totally worth it!

No problem! I've been playing the online side since it launched, it's so much better now. And yeah the campaign is great, probably my favorite 'western' in the last 20 years.

The only thing I was a little disappointed about in the campaign, there were no real western standoffs like you see in the old TV shows.

Maybe you & I can team up and you can show me how to get more money and such? @Desert Walker

I don't think there's cross play for PS and PC, unfortunately...unless anything has changed, I haven't been on in a while. Otherwise I'd hop on for a bit and team up. I'm certainly not rich in the game, I've acquired all the weapons, wagons, good horse, etc. just by having played it so long. Random people will invite you to their posse from time to time, they usually just need help to complete a tough bounty or something...so that's a good way to get some easy cash/xp. Oh and the story missions will boost up your xp a lot. Pretty sure you can keep replaying them.

Oh so you have it for PS4? Darn. I've been doing daily challenges and Stranger missions to get more XP and cash. Some Stranger missions can be tough!

Yeah some are. Once you get the roles unlocked, it really picks up.

Yep, it's not a easy game to start, but you'll love it when you got familiar to it.

My gameplay online on pc is very nice! The people are nice 98% of the time, and the cheaters arent as bad as i thought, and if you have a stable internet connection, you wont encounter many disconnects
