If this movie is going to be called Red Five I want to see it more about Vader searching and discovering who the one that is "The Force is Strong with" that pilots Red Five and destroys the Death Star. His searching leaving him always leaving him a step behind, ultimately discovering that it is unborn son that he presumed to have died with his wife, Padme. We know Vader is in search of Luke before the Emperor's discovery of him, so show Vader's real motive that end's up being revealed at the climax of ESB.

I would not like to see Luke portrayed in the film by another actor, so leave him out of it altogether or use clips from ANH to begin the movie and end it with the prelude to the battle of Hoth.

They should do Red Five in Japanese Anime style w/ Mark Hamill voicing Luke. They could pitch his voice up just a few notches to make him sound younger

Forget about Red Five. What about a Kenobi spinoff featuring this book as the basis of the story.

While I totally dig the idea of a Darth Vader search movie, what if the titles released by Hasbro reveal a movie on what Luke does as a pilot? post-A New Hope? We see him as pretty extraordinary for destroying the Death Star, but with most of Red Squadron (BIGGS!) dead, it's really just him and Wedge. What if the movie is about the rebuilding and further creating Luke's legend as Red Five? Kinda Rogue Squadron merged into the new Canon?

If the idea is that Vader is searching for the pilot who destroyed the Death Star, then I would assume he'd have gotten "Red Five" from the in-flight chatter between the Rebels during the battle.

If that's the case, then he'd also have gotten the name "Luke", as Biggs called him that repeatedly over the comm channel, right up to a couple of seconds before he died.

To me, this seems like a pretty hot trail for Vader to follow. Especially once the Imperials showed up en masse to take out the Rebel base with conventional starfleet forces (which couldn't have taken very long to occur after the Death Star was destroyed.) Seems that they'd have either grabbed data or taken prisoners from whom Vader could have gotten Luke's surname.

Not sure how they could stretch that particular mystery out to a full-length movie, but maybe they can. (If that's even the idea in the first place.)

Or... it could be about another hotshot pilot from the ST era who takes (or is given) Luke's old call sign as a personal tribute/homage of some kind.

I really don't see them recasting Luke for a spin-off film, but I could see the call sign being picked up again and a movie following that pilot's exploits.

Me neither, and I hope it never has to occur. As for my original idea, what about "Red Five" simply a production or code name for Rogue Squadron? This has to be one of the most highly-rated and enjoyed parts of EU, and I see no reason why it couldn't return. It also fits with my personal opinion that not only was the Empire arrogant in battle, but that the Rebels, with clones to train them, and now an elite squadron for secret mission, could actually fight back with a huge, if small, advantage over the Empire.

Man, I'd love to see a series of Rogue Squadron movies. That was one EU series that I thoroughly enjoyed - sort of like "Black Sheep Squadron" in the SW universe!

And really, it was sort of what I'd like to see the spin-off series do. Yeah, it was a bit closer to the Skywalker storyline in terms of degrees of separation, but it mainly dealt with new characters who had their own stories and who had been affected in various ways by the Galactic Civil War. Plus, the dogfight scenes were always written so well!

They'd probably need to reimagine a few things in order to do a Rogue Squadron movie now, if they were going to set it shortly after the OT like the book series was. Mainly, they'd need to either recast Wedge or else write him out of the story, since even if Denis Lawson wanted to come back to do Star Wars (which he doesn't seem to) he'd be way too old for the timeline used in the novels. However, it's always possible that they could resurrect Rogue Squadron for the ST and have a spin-off series about them set concurrently with the ST.

Any chance of this happening, post Rogue One announcement? Would they be too similar, or could they both contribute something unique to the Saga?

I think Red Five got merged into Rogue One....

    -Blackhawk down = X-wings & Tie fighters
-Saving Private Ryan = Drop ships landing and dropping off Rebel Troopers they attack imperial defence systems that are guarding the base that a squad of bounty hunters and elite rebel troopers sneak in to steal the Death Star plans.

-Felicity Jones = A Rebel commander that leads the special forces squad with the bounty hunters. She was casted as a rebel trooper so why have her just as a normal one?

PEW PEW PEW...... screams of troopers burning, dying ...
