    This is my first post so be gentle with me!

    The more and more I watch the teaser, the more I cant help but wonder, is it all a red herring? Were those scenes just shot for the trailer to lead us down the wrong path? I just cant seem to get my head round the fact that the 'Big Three' werent even shown. Maybe Im just barking up completely the wrong tree here. I get that these new films are all about introducing new characters and the old heros will take more of a secondary role to them, but I cant help but thinking that some of the theories as to what the storyline is going to be are all a bit....'meh'

    Thinking back to Star Trek: Into Darkness, JJ has tried to hide characters true identity before with John Harrison turning out to be Khan. I cant help but think that this Kylo Ren chap is going to turn out to be called something completly different. I also came up with this pretty 'out there' theory, that Kylo is just a mash up of Skywalker and Solo - s(KY)walker, so(LO). Although I have absolutely no idea where the Ren comes from.

    Is there anyone out there that thinks the same and that at this stage we might be being taken for a ride and that nobody actually has any idea of what the storyline will be?

    Personally I want me some Jacen, Jaina, Anakin, Ben, Mara, Lumiya action, but the more I read, Im pretty sure thats certainly not going to happen

    Welcome to the Cantina C2P2, have some juri juice on the house!

    I think Red Letter Media put it the best.. The teaser subverts expectations. It seems to go to great lengths to show us nothing, from the prolonged blank screens to Rey getting on her USB drive speeder and the long Falcon shot at the end.. It seems to reveal absolutely nothing really aside from the new lightsaber.

    I believe we will get a trailer which teases the big three in June, then a short trailer/featurette which focuses on them a few weeks before release.

    The trailer is obnoxious. It shows us mostly balck screen with a number of different shots that form no coherent narrative whatsoever. None of it makes sense.

    I'm interested, and...

    I love it and need more.

    Who knows what's going on really? All part of the fun.

    When I first saw the trailer I first didn't think it revealed much, but after watching 58 times there is a lot to look forward, no red herring worries for me.

    I still think the trailer sets tone, via the music and the fact every character is "on the move."

    I also still think the screen movement (left or right) of the characters means something.

    iv never heard the phrase Red Herring, is this like smoke and mirrors? i didn't think it was surprising at all that they focused on the new. this will after all be their story. The trailer really didn't show anything revealing at all, that's just the way they wanted it to. interesting questions though sir. also welcome to the cantina.

    Sorry, yer Red Herring, it means like a misleading clue.

    Im just far too excited for this film, I have so many possibilities going round and round in my head. What will happen, what characters will be in it, what I WANT to happen.

    I literally think my head will explode before the film comes out haha

    To expound on your post, that's the beauty of the teaser -- they (LFL/Bad Robot) cut together a teaser trailer that created a ton of worldwide media buzz by almost showing us absolutely nothing we didn't already know:

    - We knew Daisy was in it and on Tattooine
    - The set in her scene was "leaked" via TMZ
    - We knew that Boyega was playing a Stormtrooper (also on Tatooine)
    - We already saw the new stormtrooper helmets via leaks
    - We already saw the Kylo Ren costume test as well as Sithcalibur from another leak
    - We already knew the Millennium Falcon was in the movie (also seen on Tatooine)

    The only thing that was revealed was that Oscar Isaac is playing an X-Wing pilot (we already saw the new X-Wings via the Force For Change video.)

    I don't think it's a red herring, considering the cross guard lightsaber, which we know is legit. It's a teaser, so it's basically meant to tell us nothing, only give us hints. Think about it: from a mere 88-second teaser we've gotten pages and pages of speculation!
    I read somewhere that the score for the teaser is similar to John Williams' "Sarlaac" theme; the author was saying that like Luke, we are standing over something immense and looming, just waiting to jump in. I guess that's the point: the teaser is showing us this new era of Star Wars, in which we will be completely immersed in.

    LOL you're right, and Oscar was the thumbnail for the video when I clicked on it.. I'd already seen everything in the teaser!

    Wonderfully put. I have noticed the similarities in the score in the trailer to the Sarlacc theme. And was wondering how to connect the dots.
