I could not disagree more. Peace is only achieved through decommissioning. A relevant example is Northern Ireland.

 

Not a great example. We’re talking weapons of mass destruction. Not trying to start a political debate.

 

Me neither. But I just disagree. Weapons of mass destruction have nothing to do with peace. They are just about domination. The last thing I'd like to see in SW is the good guys turning into a Cold War superpower. Depressing.

 

So it wouldn’t be okay for the Republic to have a Death Star like battlestation if the First Order still had Starkiller?

 

For me the point of SW is for the Rebels/ Republic/Resistance to get rid of those mass destruction weapons. Like the philosophy of all these movies has always been, as far as I am concerned, to eliminate megalomaniac destructive super weapons and the power of those who build them.

 

That's the thing. I would have liked to see Leia and company wrestle with the idea of building something of that scale as a means of defense because of the absence of the Jedi. It's something they wouldn't want to do because if that kind of power fell into the wrong hands it would be terrible. It's not who they are., Fact is, the dark side has wiped out multiple planets with these weapons before they could destroy them. Maybe a Death Star scale weapon on the side of the good guys would provide an equalizer and deterrent.

 

I know what you mean. You’re suggesting reproducing America’s international policy since the 1950’s on screen. What I would say is that, although the Republic having a weaponry context with the FO would be an effective intimidation strategy (and it would be an interesting plot development) It would feel wrong as an aspiration of peace and harmony in the galaxy for the good guys to have. Intrigue like that works best in novels, like Grey’s ones. The films usually have a very define purity of purpuse and message. But hey, I could be wrong. Presenting some factions of the Rebels/republic as weapon enthusiasts could be an interesting side plot. It all depends how it’s handle, I suppose.

If he/she really was an extra there is no way they'd let them leak it. I imagine they have had to sign NDA's out the wazoo. That's quite the imagination that "leaker" has. I imagine an extra as bare minimum knowledge of what's going on.

 

I agree it seems fake. It looks like the classic ploy of I worked for..... then take information that has leaked already and craft a story around it.

 

I'm gonna be honest, I hope it's not true. Naomi Ackie being Lando's daughter gives me flashbacks to when John Boyega was cast, and he HAD to be related to either Mace or Lando, because apparently black people can't exist in the same universe without being related.

 

I was looking for my daily Star Wars FIX... ahhhhh, I like it, even though its fake! HAHA does Finn get an opportunity to smack HUX back in the face? This alone makes it fake... HAHA... rebel scum....

 

I know. I love these rumours! We really need a fix...
I assume this is fake but I wonder, as I haven’t been an internet fan for long, did these sort of leaks happen with TFA and TLJ too? Were any of them remotely true?

oh yes.. there were lots of leaks, and some of them true.

it seems to me that at this point in production on the other 2 saga movies.. we had a lot more "viable/believable" leaks than we do at the moment for ep IX.

i'd be fascinated to hear from the staff (perhaps @Pomojema) to know if they think it's particularly quiet right now.. and if they are sitting on any information currently that they are considering releasing.

i saw that a couple of days ago.. looks like tripe to me, but you never know i guess. they mention that they are on Batuu.. which i don't think JJ would be telling a clump of extras - it's BS if you ask me.

I agree. I would add to this that Billy Dee must be around eighty... the poor man would not be fit for too much running around... and it would be nice to have someone who represents his OT youthful charm and energy in these new films. Also being Lando’s daughter would make her immediately sympathetic.
