My theory back when TFA came out was Luke was hiding away because he can't control his dark side, so when Rey shows up with his dad's old lightsaber, he dreads knowing what's to come.

 

literally the only things that make any sense out of that twaddle is that it gives the audience a huge reason to 'pull' for Kylo/Ben.
it explains what happened to Ben.

something big was always going to happen to swing Ben over to the audience despite what he has done... but i can't swallow something this big.

after how safe TFA was.... surely TLJ could not go this way? LF would not take that sort of a risk... surely?

That was my fav part of the "leaks" actually!

 

Gotta admit, if these leaks are true, this is really going to shake up the franchise and get people talking about Star Wars again.....

 

But it's very fake.

 

Kylo returning to the Light in the second movie is kinda rushed though, don't you think?

 

This would RUIN Star Wars for me. Luke was my hero as a child and remains my favorite Sci-Fi character ever. So many out there would have a broken heart over this.

 

I suspect you're right, but if true, it puts these comments from Mark in a whole new light when he says he “fundamentally disagreed” with the way The Last Jedi writer/director Rian Johnson envisioned Luke Skywalker in the new film.

i want to meet Ben Solo during this trilogy. i want to watch the adventures of Leia and Han's son.... not the thing wearing a mask and holding a red light saber that Snoke is controlling.

as ridiculous as most of that post was.. the only part that made sense was that it gave Kylo an 'out' that we would get behind.

don't like it though. Han dead, no Leia in 9 and Luke evil? wow that's depressing for anyone who can remember ep6 lol.

 

I don't know if it's true or not but I kinda like it.

 

He later backpedaled on it I believe and was talking about how exciting it was. Mark Hamill is the king of misdirection so I take everything he says with a grain of salt.

 

I could see him turning at the end of the movie. I think in IX he would be almost fully Ben again, but the "leaks" have him turn earlier, so I was thinking that would be too rushed. I am now positive no matter what rumor or leak I read, Luke is not the Luke we knew and will likely be part of Kylo turning.

These "leaks" coming out the same day MSW show posters of Luke in an antagonist-like role is bad timing though, so it's hard to say what's what anymore.

Not saying I believe any of this just yet, but it'd certainly shake up the franchise if Luke does turn.

 

i'd seen the posters on MSW... yeah that second one is a bit chilling lol

 

I think she means that Luke is a grumpy old man not a swashbuckling hero as he was in the OT.

My first thought was he's watching over the FO like a leader. Tiny little Snoke below him is not compelling at all haha

Also despite being a spoilers thread some people are very upset at the MSW leak since it's legit, so I don't want to offend anyone.

 

well, Luke being evil isn't a revelation. It was very nearly the way they were gonna go in the OT, and we've been bringing the idea up ever since we knew about the new trilogy.

one of the questions this whole time has been.."who can possibly be a more powerful bad guy than Palpatine?" Luke is clearly an option there.

none of this ties into the guardian of the Whills stuff... revelations about the force that we will be shocked about.

i'll stick with a theory rating of 'twaddle' for the time being.

 

Always thought the cave scene implied it in ESB.

 

Things would make a lot more sense if this were true. Luke continuing his father's/Palpatine's wishes. Luke finds the darkside user in the Unknown Regions to do his bidding and be his rich, ostentatious frontman who can bankroll his endeavors. How Kylo could be influenced in Leia's womb. How Kylo could get the drop on Luke and "destroy" his "academy." The perfect rope a dope. Luke wouldn't be Vader 2.0 in this scenario. He'd be Palpatine squared.
