As we watch the final countdown to the Episode IX panel at Star Wars Celebration, Bloomberg dropped a report that will no doubt be bittersweet for the fandom. There's been speculation that the film's initially announced annual release schedule would slow down after IX and it's confirmed here by Bob Iger himself.

At around the six-minute mark, Iger states pretty clear there will be a hiatus and that gap will be filled with Disney + content. See the video below from Bloomberg.

Well, what do you think? Were you looking forward to a Star Wars film annually or is this hiatus a good thing? As the weekend progresses we are almost certain to learn more about how that gap will be filled by television and other exciting projects. Don't give up hope if this news gets you down. The Force is strong with great storytelling in Star Wars, so don't expect that to slow down anytime soon.

I understand the want for a hiatus but I really think taking any more than two years off is incredibly risky move that may not pay off in the current cinematic climate.

I'm okay with another film hiatus since at least we are getting a lot of good-great star wars content on Disney +, comics/novels and video games

i'm not sure that means much to be honest.

we know that there's no movie next year.. but it won't be long before the next movie/s are being made.
    I agree.

It takes a couple of years to make these movies and, as far as we know (I think?), proper pre-production hasn't started on any of the announced films, so... There's gonna be 2-3 years at least before we see another new SW film; possibly longer than that, even. However, we will get loads of SW content for TV, which is awesome and I'm not worried in the least for the cinema climate. When Star Wars returns to the big screen, people are going to flock to the theaters again like a bunch of mad nerds! ;)

Wise decision. TFA did HUGE bussiness because it was an event.

With Disney +, fans won't stop getting content, Disney won't stop making money out of SW and the general audicence won't get tired as easily.

    Screw Disney+

I'm fine with the hiatus if it means we'll get quality movies after... //fingers crossed//
