Perhaps the most talked about and rumor-fueled wishlist item among Star Wars fans and media has been an Obi-Wan Kenobi standalone project. Well it sounds like that wish may have finally come true, but not how we envisioned it.

We were told that an Obi-Wan Kenobi limited TV series is happening, is the next top priority for the Disney+ streaming service, and that it could be as many as six episodes.

The Kenobi project was initially supposed to be a film, as had been reported several times over the last few years, but everything changed after the disappointing box office performance of Solo: A Star Wars Story. We were told that the Kenobi film was actually supposed to start production shortly after Solo premiered, and then everything changed. This certainly puts much more clarity on that famous Bob Iger 'rethinking our approach' statement from last year.

This also may explain why Ewan McGregor was at the Solo premiere, as they may have expected an announcement for a Kenobi film to come soon thereafter. His stock replies to interview questions aside, Ewan McGregor has been on board with returning as Kenobi since day one.

I'll be the first to admit I never would have imagined a Kenobi project being a TV series, as I find it hard enough to fill a two-hour movie with what old hermit Ben Kenobi could be doing during the time he is supposed to be in exile, but here we are.

I have no doubt that they will give Kenobi the stage and treatment he deserves, as this could potentially be one of the first Star Wars projects since The Force Awakens that all fans can unite around, especially after hearing the 'script is GREAT.'

There is no confirmation on whether or not an announcement of the series is imminent, or that it will be announced at Star Wars Celebration, though if it is in good standing that would make sense - and although there are many 'TV series' rumors out there right now, we are told this one is happening and will go into production. We can get into speculation on what it will be about, who will be in it, or who may be returning later. As always, we will update you if we learn more details about the project, but it is a good time to be a Star Wars fan. Thanks for reading!

Really still wonder how they will come up with compelling content. Maybe with a TV show it lessons the need for a real compelling villain.

Perfect material for a Disney+ show. Should have been prioritized over Cassian. The Mandalorian and Obi-Wan would be a killer one-two punch.

I wonder the new streaming service will be the new outlet for SW content and only saving bigger SW events for the theaters (such as Episodic movies and whatever B&W and RJ films going to be.)?

The arguing between Obi-Wan and Owen Lars could make it a comedy? I believe in the old EU Owen Lars told Obi-Wan to get away from Luke several times?

The most compelling thing about Obi-Wan is Ewan McGregor back as Obi-Wan. In my view it just has so little freedom because Obi-Wan must keep a low profile. If he is off with adventures around the Galaxy it just doesnt fit what his character was supposed to be doing.

Will add what I want most is for the information that Solo provides to us (Maul, Qi'ra, and Enfys Nest) is explored in something. It could very well be in the Cassian series.

    This could be really good.
Also in terms of release schedule I wonder just how close the 3 shows will be released to each other.

Disney right now: "You get an TV series, you get one and you get one!"

I don't want an Obi-Wan series, I want a movie! Maybe it's just me, but there are too many series to come (Han, Lando, Leia, KOR, Darth Bane are all rumored). I would have nothing against that, if it's all one series. Something like a mash-up. There are 1-2 episodes for each character.

But in the end I'm more of a movie guy. These huge amount of series is more of a thing for American viewers I guess.

As one article stated, it sounded like they're just spitballing ideas.

All of a sudden, we are getting leaks/rumors of what, several series??? Like Andrew said, it sounds like they are just spitballing ideas and seeing what the fans say/feel/react to these stories. What is likely happening is that several are "in development" just the way HBO had 5 possible GOT follow on series "in the early stages of development" and from which they would only move forward with one. I would love to see them do an Obi-Wan series AND develop a series that is, essentially, a sequel to Solo, one that develops the underworld/gangsters/etc.

All the stories about Kenobi between 3 & 4? Congrats, you officially have as much time as you need to need to tell all the ones you want. In terms of a compelling villain, I partially disagree. The villain could be even more compelling since the writers/creators are given more time than a movie allows to flesh the character out and build them up.

Overall, I'm excited for this if it's really happening and if this came out with Disney+ I would buy it day one.

I won't believe it till it's actually available to watch. Too many disappointments have made me bit pessimistic with this. Failure, flop, whatever you want to call the Solo film ended any hope for an OB1 film. Now a TV series I'll believe it when I watch it.

In my opinion there are countless Obi Wan stories to explain between ROTS and ANH (Jedi books, bounty hunters, Jabba, Yoda, Exile, Vader, Coruscant, Bail Organa, Leia, last Jedi, Sith, personal training, failures, doubts, decadence...) A 2 hour movie could be great to explain one of them, but a good tv show with a great character development, is really great to focus this character. And with Ewan again we don't need much more (good writers and proper cinematography). Hope will be true. Could be epic.

I somewhat doubt we would see Ewan McGregor in that. So are we going to watch a recast Obi Wan drawing circles into the sand for six hours?

after the statement from Star Wars Bob saying they were going to slow down... sure seems like there's a lot in the pipeline lol

i want Ewan as Kenobi again, and i wouldn't give 2 beeps about it being in a movie or a TV show. i'd happily watch Ewan's Kenobi eat cornflakes for 2 hours :D

If half of the rumors are true, then i will be a happy droid. i'm close to losing it with excitement here, but they are just rumors. breath Max... just... breath !

I think whatever they do with Obi-Wan in terms of visual media--if they do anything--it has to be with Ewan McGregor. Is there any point in anything else?

Yep. I mean, think of the hours I've spent just watching goofy prequel gifs!
