Damn, you’ve ruined my day! Leave me sitting here at my desk, weeping and sobbing the whole time. Why? WHY? Everybody in the office is staring at me...

Early drafts of Revenge of the Sith had Palpatine reveal to Anakin that Count Dooku had hired the Tusken Raiders to kidnap Shmi. He would reveal this information in an effort to goad him into executing Dooku.

That would've been a good twist.

Yeah, but I think Lucas didn't want everything to have been orchestrated by Sidious. By refusing to visit his homeworld, Anakin in a way allowed his mother to be consumed by it. This would cause deep-rooted guilt and would have provided no real closure.

Thanks for jumping the gun! I'll skip that part when I get to my ROTS spoilers later this week.

Just messin with you @Alex Sebire .
That was something I wish had been left alone in-universe.

Before we wrap up Sido Dyas, I rediscovered a couple more Maul pics....

that precede his new and improved backstory.

Before the Clone Wars, before all the retcons

those tats were not Iridonian, or Dathomiri...
    they were straight Sith.

THIS. Then along came Plagueis.... and many things made more sense.:)

Sifo-dyas is such a convoluted mess.

I think Palpatine should have asked young (a few years after TPM) Anakin to go into the archives and extract some info for him, that info being the location of Kamino. Simple, innocent request on the surface. Years later, we find out why he wanted it taken out of the archives memory banks.

Then over the years, have Palpatine and Anakin secretly collude on a couple other things, each one a little more shady than the next, with Anakin totally aware of what he's doing. It would have made his seduction by the Dark Side more believable.

    As I posted elsewhere:

"Sifo Dyas is nothing more than a typo that became the worst example of Chekhov's Gun in all the saga. That name is a loaded EKX-10 Blaster Rifle on Palpatine's office-wall that never goes off. The Clone Wars cartoon did little to improve upon that hot mess. Another fallen PT-era Jedi? Meh. Lucas would have better off leaving SIDO DYAS alone instead of wasting our time with a plot development that never gets addressed again on film...."
So, yeah... I think we agree.

    Sify-Dyas is Tarkin.

    Duh.

No, seriously, that would have been a better story - some prick Judicial goes undercover an orders an army behind the Jedi's back, making them look like fools and play directly into the Chancellors plan. Instead, our great Creator allowed a typo to dictate a plot line/hole/mess. Great. (wampa)

Mace thought it was a Senator, so having a regional governor with eyes on a military career going a thousand leagues under the Kamino sea to order the clones works just fine. Anything would have been better than the absolute zero that we were left with on film.

Yes, well I think either way we can all agree that Revenge of the Sith suffered from the various plotlines that Lucas had established in Attack of the Clones, and then realised he had no time to resolve when it came to the writing of the third installment.

Undoubtedly. TCW helped in a number of ways(particularly when it came to actually developing the characters), but as @Lord of the Rens said, even then the whole Sifo-Dyas thing is still a confusing mess.

Well, yeah. We still don't have any definitive information on how long before AOTC Dooku was Sidious' apprentice. If Sifo-Dyas was killed 10 years before AOTC, then either Palpatine was grooming Dooku as a potential backup in case of Darth Maul's demise, or sought someone like him out rather quickly after his current apprentice's death.

Also, did Sifo-Dyas or Dooku truly order the army, as Dooku assumed Dyas' identity to take over clone production shortly after his death?

    Update:

I'm working on RotS right now.... but it might take the entire weekend until I'm done. So much reading, so little time. Sido Dyas was big deal to me back in the day and I'm hoping that I can dig up a few fossils like that one, for the final Prequel film.

Do you have the Making of Revenge of the Sith book? I've read many times about a certain Palpatine/ Anakin concept from the earliest drafts on page 42, but I can't find anyone who can outright confirm it. All the threads I find on it are outdated and the supposed scan of the page doesn't exist anymore.

If people knew just how... involved the Sith were meant to be from the beginning.... I'm guessing that many Plagueis haters would be singing a much different tune. I kind of; no I loved the idea that you can't kill a Sith Master once and for all until you launch their body into a sun ( or drop their cackling arse into the core of a small mechanical moon) .... because we all know Palpatine didn't do that to Plagueis( cremation doesn't count). Darth Krayt would have been my alternate choice if Plagueis wasn't Disney's cup of evil Sith tea. Snoke's had 30 years to take over the whole show.... But I digress.
