Return to Ahch-To?

Well in the movies only one desert planet has been used, right? Tatooine. Because it's used frequently (in relation to others) is one of the reasons the Skywalker story needs to end on Tatooine. That's where it began, and it keeps drawing attention back to it. It's begging to be the end locale. Which creates a nice rhyme with the rest of the series, and it's not just putting the new characters there, but having them be looking into the sunrise instead of sunset would be poignant.

But you're wanting to say, "Not just Tatooine, but also Jakku is a desert planet" and while technically that's true, thematically Jakku is Tatooine. It's just got a missing sun in relation to Tatooine. The writers have to be intending Jakku to parallel Tatooine; why else start the ST with the protagonist on a desert planet which isn't Tatooine? Because Tatooine is used too much? Then why make it a desert planet exactly like Tatooine except for a missing sun? The story is just demanding a Tatooine end scene. That's what I'm seeing, at any rate.

And not only does it create a poignant rhyme with the rest of the series, but it creates a poignant rhyme within the ST as well, overturing Rey on a desert planet with one sun, then coupling her and setting the finale on the same environment but now with another sun. It completes a set, and a set within the set. It couldn't be more fitting.

 

The only reason I could see them heading back to Ahch-To is if Rey wanted to start a new Jedi academy at the site of the original Jedi temple, but I think chances of that are pretty slim.

 

I doubt there will be a scene on Ahchto. Unless Kylo stops by to brood. "My uncle was here. This is where he gave him. . . where he tried to stop me but he could only delay my final victory." He then is visited by force ghost Luke and has an epic tantrum.

 

A major theme of the ST so far is moving forward. So going back to Ach-to and the temple wouldn't fit. That's my opinion.

 

I would like a comeback of this beautiful island. But I think it won't happen.
EPIX will most likely focus on the Reunion of widespread resistance cells and their heroic fight against an agressive FO and their propaganda.

 

I'm not sure Rey is 100% finished with that weird cavern deep below Ahch-To. It may be possible something in the books that were in the force tree will lead her back there. The compass was also mentioned, it's possible she may need it to find something in the books. I don't believe closure is needed, if we return to Ahch-To, there will be a purpose behind it. I voted yes, I do believe so, I'm not sure why, but I get the gut feeling we haven't seen the last of the place.

 

From a meta-perspective, I want it just because I want the ST to feel like it "has" a planet.

In the original trilogy, Tatooine felt like home sort of. Dagobah too, maybe.

In the prequels, Coruscant definitely felt like that.

In the ST... it just feels like we don't quite have a home yet. Maybe Jakku could fill this role too, of course.

 

There’s no evident reason to go back to Ahch-To according to the films. However, The Last Jedi novelization strongly implies that the Caretakers have been left in charge of Luke’s green lightsaber, so unless Rey ends up repairing the blue lightsaber (which is probably more likely), she may go back to retrieve the green one and be visited by Luke’s Force ghost. But again, that seems pretty unlikely, so unless they’re doing something with the remnants of Luke’s belongings on the island, it doesn’t make much sense to go back there.

 

I disagree. Ben should go into exile where he has no connections to his past. Luke was on Ahch-To, the first Jedi were on Ahch... Ben needs to leave that behind to find peace and purpose. If Kylo goes into exile, then I hope we'll never know where he went to.

i'm down with that, but i would personally prefer Ben living among the rest of the galaxy.. no more hiding away. no more mask.
