Her parents were supposed to be losers. They only wanted money for booze. They weren't trying to leave Jakku, only to leave Rey.

Rey's experience in he cave is a metaphor for her trying to dig up a repressed memory, and it's too painful for her to do. Instead she just sees herself: and in a way this is the truth -- Rey has always been forced to be her own parent. This is why she's so advanced for her age. She's had to survive on her own her whole life.

Kylo's probably not lying about her parents; Rey was able to admit the truth once he forced her to.

It's very unlikely this isn't the true story about Rey's parents.

Well the whole theme of the movie centres around ordinary people being capable of great things, it doesn’t matter what bloodline you have, so of course the force connection wouldn’t have to mean they are related.

See, this doesn't really make sense though. The "canon" is not set in stone. It can be added to with each entry into the series. It's not like King James wrote the official Star Wars bible 3,000 years ago and nothing is allowed to be added to it

Right, but I interpret that to mean that an (apparently) ordinary person could develop telepathic abilities to then connect with others in their family.

It's unfortunate that we didn't see any other families of Jedi. We did, however, see lots of individual Jedi and none of them could do this, so it's logical to think its got something to do with blood ties, not necessarily Skywalker blood ties... Perhaps all of them can do this- but only with other blood relatives. At least that is the evidence we have about it until now. But as @Master Spiderman says, nothing is set in stone, though I'd like even a brief explanation for why it would change. I doubt we would get that, though.

Snoke created the connection, but I don't think that means he created the content. I think he said something about creating it because he was certain there was too much light in Kylo and rey sensing that would lure her there. So he was counting on what he considered a flaw in kylo to get the result he wanted.

If he had still had good in him, he would have turned himself in after killing Snoke after taking power for himself. Actions speak louder than words.

He had more dark. He had a trace of light enough to not fire at the bridge where leia was

Well he had just experienced another manipulation by Snoke, which would have been the second big embarrassment that day after "take that ridiculous mask off". Likely didn't sit well with him. Then Rey rejects his offer and takes the lightsaber that he thinks belongs to him. Probably not his day for redemption.

I think it was similar to Luke in the flashback.
It's not who he is, but he has the fleeting moment of regret...not an indication that Luke is dark nor that Ren has light....just a brief moment.

I am with you on this. I think there is so much to this. Why else would they show this connection again after Snoke's death and right after the Luke/Leia connection?

There are logical arguments refuting this, but also logical arguments such as this particular bread crum that makes you think that it is TOTALLY possible

I don't care what people say about him, Kylo Ren has humanity in him and went through some sh*t in TLJ that made redemption impossible for him in that moment.

Believing his mother is dead and wanting to kill the past afterwards because he thinks it's best now that she's gone, Getting close to Rey and thinking he made a genuine connection only for Snoke to go "lol no" and call it bs he enacted, him genuinely caring for Rey and offering to create something new with her (albeit dark and horrid in nature) as he just wants the past to die than be faced or accepted, Rey rejecting him and him lashing out like a child because he took it badly after everything else that just happened.

Yeah he was so ready to face his trauma and become Ben Solo again.

He did create it, based on what he said. However, I think what both saw as the future actually happened - they DID join each other, standing by each others' side, if only briefly. That is what they saw, and since they did not consider a temporary "team up", they added their own conjecture that the other switched fully to their side.

    huh.

my impression of all of this is that the bond is real and it exists outside of Snoke.
they feel each other in the Force before Snoke knows Rey exists and they feel each other after he's dead.

what Snoke created was the projection. their ability to see and touch each other across space.
when it first happens, Ben blanches and says: "wait, you're not doing this; the effort would kill you."
    that's Snoke.

but the original bond is theirs.

I agree, but unless her Force vision is inaccurate, her parents appear to be leaving the planet. I don't see how they would be able to afford it, or why they would want to, if all they wanted to do was drink their money away. However, I like what you said about her digging up a repressed memory and the idea that she was essentially her own parent. I think you're absolutely right.

That being said, I'm glad others have brought up one of the Force connections directly following Luke and Leia's. To me, that had to be a hint. And I still feel like it's possible that Rey's idea of who her parents are is different from who her parents actually are. I'm not saying she NEEDS to be a Solo, because after seeing this film, I'm actually totally fine with her being no one. But I could also see it being a case of her being kidnapped when she was an infant, thus preventing her parents from finding her and altering her perception of who her parents are.

What I think is important about the Force connections, though, is that Rey says she sees Ben's future and it's bright. After everything he has done, redemption may be possible, but it's extremely unlikely. He killed Han, contemplated killing Leia, and is the indirect cause of Luke's death. He killed his own master solely out of anger and lust for power, and then tried to turn Rey, which, to me, was simply so he could exploit her powers. Even if he is redeemed, I don't see him surviving Episode IX. So, either Snoke manipulated the content of their visions (which, we don't see, we're only told about), and therefore they aren't accurate, or he's going to have some major redemption arc in the next film. But assuming what Rey saw was inaccurate, why wouldn't Ben's be inaccurate, too?

Plus, again, their connection continues after Snoke's death. To me, their connection is just a little too close for two unrelated people. I think the idea of her not being a Skywalker is perfect for bringing the Skywalker family saga to a close, because people forget that Force sensitivity isn't always hereditary. But I do have a hard time believing that just anyone would connect to another person through the Force if there wasn't some sort of relation there. The only other characters who have had this connection are Luke and Leia, and they were twins, so... I still think it's plausible that they're siblings.

I think Snoke lied to Kylo Ren about Rey's parents being nobodys. Maybe Snoke wasn't as powerful as he lead Kylo to believe which is why Kylo in the end tricked him. Or maybe Snoke is more powerful than we thought and tricked Rey & Kylo into thinking Kylo killed him.

I just caught the line of my third viewing where Ren says to Rey that she can’t be forming this connection because the flirt would kill her. A nice nod to what happens with Luke.

Anyway, that last bridge is interesting. It could allude to someone else still be around though I think it was just a case of the connection being made and continuing to exist. One thing is for sure, it ain’t over and Ren knows deep down that he has no intention to kill Rey...
