I thought this was the story of a strong woman.... Seems to me she doesn't know her elbow from her Peedunky. She's hanging around for a family that doesn't show up. She didn't know anything about the force a month ago. Didn't want it, but now she is at the top, and her only goal would be to save a dude who killed his father, and wanted to kill his uncle. I noticed though when it comes to the women Kylo gets apprehensive. Lol Talk about silly writing. Damn, Kathleen. The arrogance and wishlist of a woman is all on display in this movie.

Name one popular "healthy" romance in movies/TV/books/whatever. I dare you.

I said POPULAR. Also, I meant a romance that actually happened, fanfiction doesn't count.

That's an interesting theory but you know what keeps me up at night? Would Luke's force projection have worked on Watto? Could Snoke have made a force connection between a Hutt and a Toydorian...

Not sure if this was answered or not:

Rey saw a future where she believed Ren was redeemed. This was a mistake as she likely saw him betraying Snoke - not realising his own agenda. But Ren was also sure Rey would turn and saw something in his vision.

So what did he see or is it something that has been set up for IX?

their stories are both pretty ambiguous. they seem to be referring to the throne room scene (and could be).
but both of them are wrong, so there may be more to it.
he specifically says that she'll be the one to turn and that he saw her parents.
but he's not dangling information in front of her. he's just saying: i know.

i think he assumed she would turn because it's clear to his way of thinking that she has no where else to go.
he thinks he's going to offer her a destiny that she can't refuse. and of course when she does refuse it, he can't understand why.

Maria and Captain Von Trapp in The Sound of Music. Also, Superman and Lois Lane in the recent movies. Now Superman was dead at one point but he's alive again in Justice League.

either her mind was wiped for some reason we don't know yet, OR she continuously denied the truth -- which seems to be the case. Obviously her abandonment hurt her a lot, which caused her denial.

IMO, they both saw something that they acted upon, but they were wrong in how they interpreted it. It seems to be similar to what Luke sees when he looks into young Ben's mind--he sees the future, but when he acts on his interpretation of it (however briefly), it all goes to *&@$. But his vision of Ben's future wasn't wrong.

So ditto for what Rey and Ben both saw--a future in which the two of them work together. He thinks she's coming to his side and acts on that. She thinks he's coming to her side and acts on that. It works for a few wonderful, Force-filled minutes, then it all goes to *&@$. But the vision of the future in which they work together wasn't wrong...it's the balance of the Force, yin and yang...the outcome the ST is working toward.

Good grief. The Force connection has nothing to do about racism or rape fantasies. This statement is so unbelievably inaccurate. I don’t know if you truly believe this or are trying to rule people up. If you truly believe this are you insinuating that Rian supports racism and rape fantasies? There is absolutely no evidence that Rian supports any of these to things and saying so would borderline on slander.

I haven't seen the movie, I just read the synopsis, but would it be wrong to assume that the girl is young and innocent while the man is older and pretty much sick of life until she comes along and "saves him"? Not to mention she's in a subservient position. If I'm right, then the romance is unhealthy by many different standards, and if the movie came out today the Thought Police would complain about it.

You know, it's odd that I love Man of Steel but remember NOTHING about the romance. I barely remember that girl at all. Is it safe to say that there's barely any romance there? I haven't seen the newest movie, I learned my lesson from Alien vs Predator, I'm not touching that. I genuinely don't want to know what happened in it lol But how healthy can the romance be? A regular woman and an alien god, is there really no conflict there? Nothing weird? And if the romance really is healthy, is it a main focus of the story? I doubt that.

so much is problematic about Maria and Captain VonTrapp; not only the power dynamic (she works for him--big no no; also the social status disparity). but she's also a nun postulant. she hasn't made her vows and part of why Mother Superior sends her into the world is to determine whether she's really suited to cloistered life, but VonTrapp does disregard her commitment for his own selfish reasons. ultimately he does love her and she loves him and their love is served, but anyone who thinks the path to that love is easy and not fraught with serious challenges is whitewashing so much to get there.

Older guy. Power imbalance. He's condescending af.

    C'mon.

    :p

Also, I can't think of one iconic fictional couple that shares a "healthy" relationship. At least in the beginning of the book/movie. Because that would essentially render the story tensionless and thus boring.

This video commentary is rather interesting...... The idea is that the Kylo/Rey relationship has to undo everything that went wrong with the Anniken/Padme relationship to end the fairy tale correctly.

So I was right in my assumptions. And I bet those challenges are EXACTLY what makes the story interesting.

That was just my point with that question. There is simply no reason why someone would be passionate about a story where 2 people meet, fall in love and live happily ever after.

Any love story is better than Twilight. And Anakin+Padme. That's (at least to me) the worst fictional love story EVER.

    "Just help me save Padme."
*chokes pregnant Padme a couple of hours later*
