Rey isn't a mary sue, and she's not the greatest force user. She is for sure attuned to it because she's willing to let it flow through her and be the vessel. If Kylo hadn't did what he did. Snoke would have destroyed her with ease.

 

Absolutely agreed. And, I think it fails to take into account intricacies that any real-life fight could have. For instance, someone could say "Superman could easily beat Aquaman in a fight." And sure. But what if Aquaman has an intercontinental ballistic missile made of atomized Kryptonite?

Or, "Rey shouldn't be able to beat Kylo in a fight". But what if Kylo was shot in the guy with a bowcaster? Can we get a medic over here to see how badly Kylo is hurt, and perhaps a theologian to explain exactly how that would affect his Force abilities?

you know, i was only just marveling at how often you quote the movie line for line. are you just a savant with the dialog or are you working off a document?

if that's the dialog i'm remembering then i guess i am mistaken! i coulda swore there was a scene where he says something like that... i've only seen it once so far.

I won't ever defend what Rey can or can't do because I don't care even the slightest bit about it.

I will say anecdotally, that my two daughters, my wife, and my Mom all love Rey a lot.
My oldest's (going on 10 at the time) reaction to seeing Rey for the first time was to immediately go outside and reenact what Rey was doing.
My wife loved that there was an unapologetic heroin who flat-out didn't need someone pulling her around as a damsel in distress in Star Wars (TFA's whole scene with Finn constantly grabbing Rey's hand had my wife laughing - it's one of her peeves with some video games...for example...the entire game of ICO, and scores of fantasy films through the ages. Characters were often either saved and pulled around like luggage, or they were so butch that their femininity was basically just down to gender alone).

I'm not presenting a case one way or the other over Rey.
Just sharing an anecdote of how she's not terribly sad to any of the women in my life.

I like Rey a lot, she is very likable, what I don't like is the inconsistencies regarding her origin and abilities.

 

This thread has made realize anyone that likes Rey is now an enemy of the Republic.
