I agree. There probably is more than just a picture. I'm just "providing" what is the currently available info on the episode in question.

But even if there wasn't anything beyond Maul's continuing obsession with Kenobi, reminding us that Satine Kryze existed is not a coincidence. Lucasfilm wants us to remember that particular Clone Wars series story.

I don't think we can take too seriously Daisy's statement about her lineage being clear in TFA. The clues are easy to find--if you already know the answers, as she does!

While I think its completely possible that Rey be a Kenobi, I think something worth voicing is that:

Disney will be designing this for mass market readability. They wont rest heavily on non G-Cannon (which is the name for the material Lucas originally wrote if memory serves me) and I doubt they will even use characters who do not appear in this trilogy.

I say this because imagine you're a kid who has only seen the TFA. and you loved it so you go again to see VIII. If the big twist was that Rey was a Kenobi that would mean literally nothing to this new generation who need to buy into the saga for the first time.

For this reason I think it will be a character who appears in the TFA or an entirely new character (Javier Bardem for example).

I think with this in mind it leaves only a few options-
    Rey is Lukes daughter.
Rey is an Orphan who we won't learn the lineage of
Rey's journey will involve her going out and finding her birth parents (this is unlikely but it was part of an unused script for ESB where Han had to go and contact his father who was a wealthy space Baron type. This could be echoed in VIII with either Finn or Rey)
or Rey is some kind of chosen one, re-incarnation, force tree-related uber being.

I'm not really a fan of many of these ideas, exept the orphan one, I actually love Rey-Random as a story.
But yeah, if you eliminate the idea that the ST will rest heavily on the other two trilogies then I don't think Rey-Kenobi is likely.

However as a counter argument to this- If they could get Ewan Mcgreggor to appear as a force ghost then they could tie it back and let the new audience understand it 'Oh Rey's grandad's a ghost, he's dead, but he was the Jedi who fought Kylo Ren's grandfather....interesting'
    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________
without some kind of visual/on screen presence (ala vaders helmet, or a force ghost) I just don't see the reveal being Kenobi lineage since the script would go likes this:

Someone: Your Grandfather was Obi Wan Kenobi

    Rey: Who?

Luke: Now there's a name I've not heard in a long time. He was the Jedi master who instructed me and a good friend

Rey: Oh, right, and who were my mother and father?

    Luke: I dunno

Someone: Jim and Yim Kenobi, its not important they don't feature in any films or comics

Rey: Right, so why did they abandon me?

    Etc-

It just becomes a long line of questions with either unbelievable or uninteresting answers. Theirs no tension in the Kenobi reveal for either Rey as a character or a young audience.

I am warming up to the idea of Rey-Random (I hated the idea at first) but I still think the events in TFA have led us to believe that she is someone important. To me, this is either a Skywalker, Solo, or Kenobi. I would be fine with any one of these, the explanation for each would be damned interesting. But yes, as @Choose Light said, it's easy for her to say the clues are all there when she knows the answer.

I would really love to see Ewan/Obi-Wan return as a force ghost. And I'm even open to Hayden/Anakin returning. Would be very, very interesting if they both appeared at the same time. Now I'm getting off topic, but still... how cool would that be??

You do make a lot of good points though. To me, the only way a "Rey Kenobi" explanation is done easily is by Luke being her father, and a Kenobi being the mother. Otherwise, like you said, it's most likely going to be sloppy. Of course, this technically turns a "Rey Kenobi" theory into a "Rey Skywalker" theory, but regardless, I like the idea.

Lucasfilm can make Rey Kenobi happen in a meaningful way if that is the direction they choose to go. Personally of all the Rey theories out there, Rey being a Kenobi is the one I find most satisfying. It ties back in a great character that many fans love and it ties the three trilogies together nicely. Ewan McGregor is interested in doing more Kenobi so it would be easy for the writers to create a credible story and use him. If he shows up as a force ghost in VIII or IX then newer fans will get to know Obi Wan and go back and watch the other movies to learn more about him.

I have three basic problems with the Kenobi theory.

    1. Kathleen Kennedy herself has stated that the saga movies are Skywalker stories. It’s their legacy. To have the central protagonist of this new trilogy be a non-Skywalker, for me, is something of a betrayal to that sentiment. How is that salvaged? Does Kylo get redeemed, then shack up with Rey, and the two raise a Skywalker-Kenobi brood whose (sure to be) riveting exploits we’ll follow in the next trilogy? . . . . . . . . Oh god, please don’t do this.

    2. It’s overly complicated. We know Obi-Wan can’t be her father. Unless she was stored in a test tube somewhere, that dude died like 20 years before she was born. So he’d have to instead be her grandfather or granduncle or third cousin, twice removed on her mother’s side or whatever. The degrees of separation add more a of a burden on the story tellers who then have to communicate this relationship to a general audience that doesn’t live and breathe this lore. It reminds me of Dark Helmet from Space Balls: “I am your father's brother's nephew's cousin's former roommate.” Keep . . . it . . . simple.

    3. Most importantly though, it doesn’t answer the actual question: “Who are Rey’s PARENTS?” Not “who are Rey’s grandparents?” Who left her on Jakku? Who was she waiting for to come back? It certainly wasn’t Obi-Wan.

    Oh well, whatever happens, happens.

If she is a Kenobi, her lineage is more important than who her parents are. As far as answering Who left her on Jakku and who is she waiting for?, the possibilities are numerous. No matter whether she is a Kenobi, Skywalker, Solo, or Random the writers can go in many directions and still make it compelling. The story needs to be compelling regardless of the parents.

After first completely dismissing it, I actually really appreciate what Rey Kenobi could bring to the story. We have a complete reversal of the Kenobi-Skywalker Master/Apprentice dynamic from the PT, and I think that would be completely great - some could even call it "poetry."

I definitely understand the whole "The Saga is about Skywalkers" and how every story thus far has centered around a Skywalker. I think making her both a Kenobi and a Skywalker is too much of a stretch, as well.

Dismissing the theory because this is a new trilogy and they will want a character FROM this trilogy to be one of her parents is silly, though. If we are going to assume first time Star Wars fans will not be interested in character connection with the last trilogy, then TFA shouldn't have worked at all. Two of the biggest parts of that film were finding Luke and Han being killed, it was basically just tying in new characters with the already established old characters we had from the OT.

Maybe for you and for the larger mythology. However, this topic was a core motivating factor driving her character arc in the last film. If she’s our main character, and this is one of her primary concerns, then it has to be ours as well.

Well, the story has to be compelling, period. If her parentage is related to Obi-Wan somehow, then now we have another hole to fill in. What’s this new Kenobi’s story?

They said Obi Wan still has story to be told in this trilogy, and I'm pretty confident he will be back as a ghost. I do believe that she will be Obi Wan's granddaughter, and he will reveal it to her himself. I understand why she wouldn't be a Kenobi though. There is an extra leap that is needed compared to other theories because you would have to explain who her parents were. However I believe that this could be answered through the inevitable Obi Wan standalone film.

This movie could be unlike any other Star Wars film before it. It could only take place on Tatooine and it could cover a large chunk of time with time jumps. Start with Obi Wan struggling with the events of ROTS. Eventually he cannot stop himself from helping the people of Tatooine from the "scum and villainy" terrorizing the people. Eventually this could lead him to meeting a woman who also wants to help. They could fall in love and he could struggle with breaking the Jedi code. Eventually there could be a jump in time and they have a child and old Ben is finally happy again, but eventually is visited by Maul. After defeating him Obi Wan could send his family away because he knew more danger would be coming.
From then you just need to explain why Rey was left on Jakku and his could be done in IX with the Kenobi reveal in VIII.

    1. If they go with Rey Kenobi, then I think she'd more likely be a Skywalker-Kenobi herself than shack up with irredeemable Kylo to make them...Yeah that silly thing about Luke finding and shacking up with Old Ben's daughter...would make sense for #3

    2. It's not that complicated to say "You were my mentor and my old master's granddaughter" or anything like that. Especially in a universe where we tend to just accept many silly things.

    3. Well, if he's her Grandpa they could still make her parents important...they aren't mutually exclusive

Satine sends Sabine to her sister, who she is ideologically opposed to (and depending on the time frame might or might not be a public Death Watch member)? Weirder has happened! Let's just see this next episode already!

Just wanted to pass this along:
I don't know if it's just the flavor of the month, but it sure has been a hot topic lately!

You should check out this book, if you haven't already:

It's a good read! And I am definitely in the camp that Kenobi deserves his own movie... Perhaps after Rey's Kenobi lineage (possibly) is revealed in VIII or IX, then a Kenobi film would come out after IX to give us all the backstory on that ordeal.

Because she speaks with a British accent, lives like a hermit, has clothes kind of similar to Obi Wan, lurks around Starkiller like Obi Wan did on the Deathstar and has Obi Wan speak to her through the force vision. Most importantly, some people really want her to be a Kenobi, and when the internet says something forcefully, Lucasfilm will listen. Of course she is a Kenobi:rolleyes:.

They did say the stand alone movies were their opportunity to explore other film genres within the Star Wars universe... Rogue One is the heist/war movie. Maybe Han Solo will be the buddy film (with Chewie and/or Lando...)

So, I say make the Obi Wan film a romantic comedy, like When Harry Met Sally. At first they are too different and don't like each other. A prim and proper Ben Kenobi (Sally) with a witty sarcastic woman (Harry). Ooh, maybe even like the Odd Couple! Ben is Felix Unger and his "roommate" is Oscar Madison!

Or perhaps even a John Hughes 80's style romance! Maybe like Star crossed lovers from different sides of the Bantha tracks... something like Some Kind of Wonderful! The possibilities are endless really...

Yeah the only romance angle would make for a nice movie and I would love to see Obi Wan in that situation. When the Kenobi movie eventually comes out I think it will be like a super hero movie where he has to help without giving away his secret identity.

That is one of my favorite Star Wars books of all time, and I credit it to making me the major Star Wars fan I am now.

I always thought of a Kenobi movie - if not directly related to/being the Kenobi book - being like a samurai movie or some sort of spiritual pilgrimage.

Then again, Satine and Bo-Katan seemingly have another, mysterious sibling that's never been seen before (as Satine has a nephew that's probably not from Bo-Katan).
