Kylo Ren is the actual main character of this continuation of the Skywalker saga. Rey is a plot device, without character development, or depth. Daisy Ridley is a fantastic actress, but she didn't have much to work with.

I'm never gonna forget my theater's reaction. Mocking Snoke's death. Laughing and cursing Kylo Ren revealing her parents. Total numbness and quiet at the end. Out of the 150+ people there..not a single clap. No one stayed after the credits. And all the chatter I heard was negative. Heartbreaking

I actually do think that's where this is all headed. Kylo becoming the main protagonist- which makes a lot of sense. He's (soon to be) the only Skywalker left. And by far the most interesting character in this whole trilogy, with an unpredictable story arc.

I think there will certainly be something in the next film that could leave us wondering if it will tip her over the edge. Anything could be written of course. It might indeed involve her parents (though the idea that they’ll change it and make her a Skywalker is plain wrong). I think it will be about her connection to Ben and how that plays out with her friends. Perhaps her knowledge of his conflict, something no one else has or understands, will pull her away from Finn and co? I don’t know. I haven’t thought about it enough yet. But I’m confident that there is enough there to make her hero journey exiciting in episode IX. I think an important thing to remember is that she and Ren are two sides of the same protagonist. So it’s not so much about whether Rey will fall (though that is a story element), rather it is about whether she will succeed in saving/helping Ben Solo. Right now, I have no great idea of which way that will go...

Yes, I think you are absolutely right about that. We'll see if she can bring him around, which would be a wonderful high note on which to end this saga. And it would be interesting to see why she would do so. Why not just kill him? Surely he's done enough to deserve that. If it's not family ties that would make her want to save him, what will? That would be interesting to see.

I didn't like her nor did I hate her in The Force Awakens. But I must say, I enjoyed her in The Last Jedi. Thought Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver did an amazing job

Making this about Rey will only make this movie even more of a disaster. The fact that you have her and Kylo as the force users doesn't even sit well with plenty of people. If they want to make it about those two then do everyone else a favor. Leave everyone else out since they don't matter. It's all about them. This is why TLJ was a disaster. They aren't that compelling to hold a movie, but keep thinking they are.

I can sort of get why people might not be that interested by Rey...but Kylo Ren is without doubt the most interesting character out of all Star Wars movies.

Adam Driver was given more to work with thanks to Rian Johnson, but in the process he diminished other characters which makes for an unbalanced movie. Rian played favorites, and it shows in the movie.

Agreed. It seems that with TLJ Ridley and Driver got comfortable in their characters and did a fine job.

By diminished, you must mean “made more interesting”, right? I can’t think of anything worse than perfect Luke passing on perfect teachings of his perfect order whilst perfectly displaying his perfect power.

I thought Daisy was exceptional with the physical stuff. Her acting in the throne room battle was amazing. I think she was less comfortable delivering the standard Force/story recap lines to Luke when she meets him on Ahch-To, but they were classically Star Warsian clunky.

I started out really liking her and was invested in seeing her progression as a character and hero, but Rian's poor writing and interpretation of her and the other characters really killed my interest. :(

It's a really busy movie. It does suffer from too large of a cast. There were characters in there that were (probably) completely unnecessary and did not advance the plot in any significant way. So I think it's less about giving too much time to Kylo, and more about giving too much time to pretty much every one else.

This is a fault with every blockbuster film these days and something I said about TFA (I’d have merged Poe and Finn). I think in TLJ, Holdo wasn’t all that necessary as Leia could’ve done that role perfectly. But that’s no biggie. And I love both Poe and Finn now.

I enjoyed her in TFA even though I agreed that her character was ridiculously overpowered but I thought she was tossed aside for Kylo Ren and even Poe Dameron in this last movie. Her character has become boring.

Lol...my thoughts exactly, but ya' know...whatever! :) I think from here on out, those two will do just fine leading this story.

Well, it gets back to what Tolstoy said in the opening lines of Anna Karenina- "All happy families are alike, each unhappy family is unhappy in its own way."

And boy, do we have one very unhappy family here.

Rey kind of can't compete against that, that's writing 101. Conflict is where the story's at, and that lies with Kylo.

After 2 movies I think she doesn't have any character growth. The most interesting thing has to do with her past, her parents.
Her parents are relevant for some people because of the fact that she is so powerful. At the end of TLJ she is now more powerful.
Her trying to save Kylo Ren doesn't make any sense. For RJ it makes sense, because his plot is focusing on to make Kylo Ren likeable. Because of this every character is ruined in TLJ.

Rey is easily the best Star Wars character. More pertinently, Rey is a symbol of the myth of reality turning on itself

She can beat down Finn and random smugglers but can't do the same with Kylo Ren?

I was already iffy about her since TFA since she isn't written as a character to be invested in. Now TLJ really killed any form of positive points that I had about her.
