My opinion of Rey is mixed: on one hand I despise her quick mastery of the force, but on the other I like her personality.

I liked her more in The Last Jedi, however that was due to Rian Johnson not creating a flawed character but continuing one and attempting to fix the issues created by JJ Abrams.

I really liked Rey after TFA, but this sadly changed completely with TLJ.

I like her, but changed my vote to not sure because her character was not utilized nor developed appropriately enough to really care where she goes from here. I do want that to change, though.

I maintain that Rey is possibly the best thing to come from the sequel trilogy (and to me this is high praise because I really love the new movies, especially TFA).

She's definitely not one-dimensional. In TFA especially we see her innate kindness--helping BB-8, helping Finn, helping the Resistance--running up against her own self-preservation and desire for family. The kindness part is huge for me. She has a kindness and a joy unlike any other Star Wars hero. She reminds me a bit of Wonder Woman in this way. One of my absolute favorite moments from TLJ is her standing under the Falcon, just marveling at the rain falling down.

i love this too. she has every reason to be bitter and cynical, but she's determined to do good.
and now, knowing that she was sold off by her parents, her refusal to sell BB-8 is even more poignant.

I think she is better represented in TFA than TLJ. Ridley portrays her purity and starry-eyed innocence well in TFA. There's nothing specifically wrong with her performance in TLJ just think the story material was slightly more complimentary to her in TFA

Rey grew a lot in TLJ. Ridley did very well maximizes her scenes. She lost time against developing Kylo, but man she knocked it out of the park. I especially like how she talks to Luke in the beginning. She's very much "on script" to start. It's kind of funny how determined she is and she shifts over time as she learns more about Luke/Ben. Rey shows a lot more range in TLJ.

I love Rey's inocence and kindness in TFA, she is a little bit different in TLJ but that is normal, they are exploring the evolution of the character. I am curious how Rey will be in IX, will they keep that innoncence and kindness or they will go with someone a little bitter and much more serious now that she has lost Hand and Luke.
I am impressed with JJ and KK (I think they were the great responsables, no?) With the excelent cast that they picked for this ST.

The problem is that you don't worry for Rey because you know she will succeed in everything she does.

Like she did with bringing Luke to the Resistance or turning Kylo to the Light Side... Wait, she didn't?!

that one scene in the caretaker village where she yells at Luke for making light of her concern was amazing ~ one of her best moments.
i'm sorry that it got cut, but at least we got to see it in the extra footage.

anyone would be blind to say Johnson doesn't have a bias for Ren Ben (he called him sweetheart!). but that's okay.
The first movie was mostly Rey's, the second leaned toward Ben, but i suspect the third will be the balance under Abrams.

But she didn't get hurt either ... She's Moses through the red sea.

The way she one shots everything in the Falcon, I was like ... This is a little too much ... and then she levitates the whole mountain, sorting all the elements by alphabetical order and learning the jedi way with books.

At one point, that was just too much. She even knew how to swim.

she got two wounds for her trouble (three if you count the one to her pride).
that puts her on par with Indiana Jones at least as far as heroes go.
or pretty much any superhero. did Spiderman get wounded in his movie? (i haven't seen it).
because he's just a kid with no training whatsoever, but gets spider powers and does things.
and i'm pretty sure we don't worry for a moment that he won't "win".

Be honest, were you worry for Rey at any moment in the movie ?

Two scars ? She's even saving Kylo Ren in a bad situation while she was defeating the other by herself. Even Skywalker got smashed.

    Spiderman ??? She's not a superhero, she's noone ... That's the point of it.

No training ? No problem ? Whatever, you will find excuses everytime.

but she is a superhero in this context. she has fancy Force powers.
of course i wasn't worried for Rey except that she would fail to save Ben (which she did, alarmingly).

maybe you ask to much of your popcorn entertainment?
she's the hero. i expect her to win.
she has the Force. i expect her to do amazing things.

in every way she satisfied these expectations and at the same time she failed in her primary objective, which means she's still got a lot of work to do.

No, I expect a hero's journey to be more ... pedagogical.

But maybe that's my problem with the movie, I was expecting an itiniatic journey not the story of a super hero.

I like Rey. After TFA, I would have voted 'love her', but without any explanation to her quick mastery of force powers, I am missing a part of her hero journey to catapult her into your highest voting bracket. I have never seen her as 'Mary Sue' in other areas, since I think her talents as pilot, linguist, and mechanic are sufficiently explained in books, and she has failed or struggled enough in those two movies for me not to be annoyed by her relatively smooth path to victory (e.g. no match for Kylo in their first encounter, 'bunny-hopped' the Millennium Falcon upon takeoff, failed to convince Luke to come with her, let herself be seduced by Kylo, was toyed with by Snoke, nearly killed caretakers during training, etc.)

Other than that, I totally like her character. For starters, she's sweet, innocent, helpful, has a heart of gold, and does the right thing. Then there's how respectfully she treated my heroes of old: first Han (and Chewie, and their ship), then Luke.

Lastly, my little daughter loves her book 'Rey meets BB8', and I credit Rey for bringing her interest into the Star Wars universe ;)

i guess i just don't see where this expectation comes from.
it certainly wasn't Lucas' intention with the OT.
but i guess we all bring our own hopes and dreams to this in our own ways.

Rey was supposed to be a padawan, not a superhero, that's what I wanted to say.

but why do you say that?
i never got the impression she was supposed to be anything except strong in the Force and Ren's natural equal.

but then i never understood people wanting to see her train or be Luke's apprentice in the first place.
to me it seemed like she was never going to go that route after Ren Ben said: you need a teacher!
because honestly, has he been right about anything? hahahaha
