I am pro Rey Solo but this is again just speculation.

I have been hugged by strangers over years greeted with a, "I've heard so much about you."

Also Leia had been rescued by Han, Luke, Chewie and Obi-Wan from the Deathstar. Not dissimilar to Rey being rescued by Han, Chewy, and Finn. People who see connection in shared suffering often hug.

People who develop strong bonds in adversity with someone who dies in action have a connection with strangers who knew the fallen.

Any one of these are possible mundane reasons they might have hugged. The mistake is Chewy walking passed without aknowledgment.

And my boyfriend at the time's mother who I never met me, greeted me the same way. Same with a few actors I was introduced to from friends in the business who told them about me.

Leia is a motherly woman and her instincts kicked in when she met Rey, probably learning from Han that she had no one.

went to a friend's husband's funeral. never met her inlaws before. these were norwegian folk who were not "huggy" people. i come from huggy culture but am myself not a huggy person. i was introduced to the deceased's elderly grieving father. he hugged me and wouldn't let go for several minutes. grieving people do these things.

strangers hug each other meaningfully all the time when they share grief. the grief makes them no longer strangers.

J.J.Abrams said Leia & Rey hug was nothing special in a sense he wanted to arrange Chewy to hug Leia (he in fact makes subtile jokes with people all the time) but he said Chewy was caretaking wounded Finn so he could not hug Leia first.. After the journalist reminded him that Chewy in that same hugging scene can be seen walking casualy near by , J.J. had "oops" and fired it was because of mistake, that he ,obviously, used wrong cut during the film assembly.

I hold this to be confirmation that this is more than just"norwegian" hug.

    That was Padme.

Leia can't dream of dying in childbirth. She was alive for Ben. If she had another, she is still alive. If she had twins, it's not Rey. She is 19. Ben is 29.

Han did die in the snow.

    Chewie was caged.

Padme did die giving birth to Luke and Leia, and Leia says she dreams of her mother. It was a way to establish the inconsistencies of the PT and OT when Lucas had Leia say she remembered her mother.

If you want to still add Rey, then you could say the child meant to be born to Leia who nev

Leia dreams of Han,than dreams Herself, giving birth to first, than its second child.
She didn't know the circumstances of her mother's labors. Its clear, first, than second child. So if it is a vision linked with her mother's labors, its a Force driven dream.
She has a Force driven dream, that confirms Force bound with her mother, and confirms Lea is to be mother of two children to.Unfortunately fulfilled in everything, including her eventual death.

She didn't dream of it because she knew it, she dreamed of her mother because of her Force abilities. However, Rey was born 10 years after Ben, so these 2 kids are not Rey and Ben, and Leia is still very much alive. Also Padme died on a table giving birth.

    Let us stay on target.

In this dream Leia dreams herself giving birth to 2 children. Not her mother. The analogy with Padme's birth is absolute, jet Leia dreams herself, vision of herself ,first person, giving a birth of 2 children(second child cames as sort of surprise). In that dream she dreams in third person Han,Chewie,Luke,Obi Wan,but not dream of Padme in third person? No she dreams herself in a role that have analogy with Padme. This is first person experience showing her destiny of giving birth to two children.

2 children, at the same time. Still not Rey. Leia will also live through VIII, so she's not dying.

it's a dream. it's not meant to be taken literally.
she's surprised by the multiple children because she only has one.
she understands that she is standing in the place of Padmé and connecting with her through the Force.
that's the implication of the scene.

This here is my opinion from my own thread :

Leia dreams about Han ,who is dead in the snow( on the planet Hoth obviously),in the past, which didn't happened this way,Han survived.
She dreams about Luke's faliure ,in the future, about Luke's faliure to find truth amongst stars,(which reffers obviously to his search for the first Jedi temple),but we know he will not fail in that.
She dreams of Ben Kenobi's faliure to shut down tractor beam on Death Star, so they all die trapped on Death Star, the past, but did not happened,Ben managed to shut down tractor beam, they escaped from the Death Star.
She dreams of Chewbacca in a cage, enslaved, this means death for this proud freedom living fellow, but he will be free. Its the present time.(Wookie fight for freedom on Kashyyyk).
All this in same one dream.

Amongst all this false-disasters,which went opposite in reality, she dreams about herself, not Padme,in the same that dream, of herself giving birth to not a child, but to a children(that children has unexpecting conotation!),and about herself dying during that...This did indeed happened to Padme, but we sough that Leia dreams all about events that happened differently than in reality.
She would ,by analogy ,dream here not dying if its Padme destiny she dreams and Padme's giving birth.
Of course Padme died giving birth to twins,Leia knows the story, nothing new for Leia in this case, and doesn't fitt in the context of serries of false-disaster outcomes in this entire dream.
In fact Leia says she knows this dream is all(all) delusions,- means false disaster events!

So Leia does not dream just exactly Padme, but something like that, which Leia will experience to,and that is Leia's own children ,not child, been born.
She clearly sees herself giving birth, not Padme. Difference is death outcome.
Leia will not die during birth of its children.

The events in that dream were real, but outcome she dreams are opposite, they all die, fail, but in reality didn't.

I think Leia indeed dream of herself having births to not a child(she is preagnant already with Ben and expects birth of one child), but, unexpectedly, gives birth to a children.

It could be very likely hidden gem left by the autor of the book for future readings.

I've hugged a stranger after they just got in a car wreck. I've hugged a stranger after a slip and fall at a grocery store that shook them up pretty badly. People hug.

When Leia hugs Rey, Rey: has been attacked by thieves that tried to steal BB8; got into a confrontation with a total stranger who then takes her hand and starts running as they get shot at by tie fighters (not a ship they see on Jakku regularly); flew a ship through star destroyer husks; goes into space for the first time; gets boarded by Han and and big furry alien, the type of which she's probably never seen before; has her mind blown about the Force, the Jedi ("all of it"); forms a close instant bond with Han; sees a water planet for the first time; sees all sorts of crazy creatures drinking; has a Force vision, which rocks her to her core; gets attacked by the FO AGAIN; gets kidnapped by the FO; gets her mind infiltrated by a masked stranger; escapes; meets up with Han, Finn, and Chewie and thinks all is well; finds out they have to blow this place up; sees Han get murdered by the man that infiltrated her mind, and realizes it's his SON; sees Finn get sliced up the back by that same man; engages in her first ever light saber fight (previously having been force thrown against a tree); wins; BARELY escapes an imploding planet; on the flight to yet ANOTHER planet she's never been to, she deals with grief of losing Han to death at the hands of his son and of possibly losing Finn to his terrible injuries.

Leia knows about most of this. She's general. She knows. I thiiiink it's pretty reasonable to hug a stranger after they've been through all of that.

I was never the hugging type, but once I started to get involved in the world of entertainment, it became second nature. It's still awkward for me sometimes. I'm very shy.

Any way,I think a mother should hug her daughter after 14 years.

There is even a method of hugging therapy, and it seems Leia received a good one, she looks younger and stronger in ep VIII:cool:
