come now... ANH. Kenobi was pretty darn wise... what did he tell Luke about his father?
your saying that Maz would have said something if she knew more... yet flat out pork pies (lies) were the order of business for other situations like this.
She's a character for moving the story forward.. not explaining everything.
i'm supposed to be working... but here i am :D

I think Rey spent years waiting for something she knew wasn't coming back. i also believe that she didn't know who she was waiting for... that she knew wasn't coming
if the movie was supposed to end there.. i'd agree with you. it was half way unfortunately... and maz was clearly used to push the movie forward and setup a few secrets and talking points for the rest of the trilogy

    Completely different scenario:

    1. Luke's dad was the most evil man in the galaxy. Luke was "not ready for the burden". If Rey's dad was Han or Luke, clearly this wouldn't be the case.
    2. Kenobi knew he would always be with Luke - either physically or as a Force ghost and could tell him this news later on (or Yoda could).
    3. Luke didn't need to know Vader was his dad to actually want to be a Jedi and save the galaxy. In fact, knowing the truth put that at risk - Rey on the other hand "wants none of it" and is running away. Telling her that her family is in some way connected to Luke would've changed that.

Fine. Just don't write her as a wise, insightful character and have her tell Rey her family is essentially dead when daddy/uncle is upstairs!

    I agree.

Indeed. But if Rey is a Solo/Skywalker and Maz DID KNOW something about that (which is what we're discussing here) then to write it in the way they did is nonsensical. It diminishes Maz's character and makes little sense in terms of what Maz says and does. All I am really saying here is that the whole exchange with Maz isn't evidence for Rey Skywalker/Solo. It's more likely to be the opposite.

From what I got from the EW article, Rey will learn of her past, but it doesn't matter where she came from. What matters is where she's heading. She also has to redeem Luke. I see none of that connecting with her being a Solo or Skywalker, because both are a pretty big deal, especially in her eyes. If she's a Solo, she will not forgive Kylo and if she's a Skywalker, she will not just shrug about it and carry on.

yes.. telling her that her grandfather was Darth Vader would have changed a lot :p
damn... now why'd ya go and do that? here's me making up any ol stuff to disagree with you and you put a spanner in the works? play the game mate :p
i agre..... i don't completely disagree with that.

I think that Rey could be a Skywalker, a Kenobi, a Random, have Dark sided parents.. and the bottom of that list is Solo, purely because it would be the most tragic story ever after wanting a family for so long to basically... just miss them by the time she.. say finds out in ep9.

depending on who Rey is... it could completely diminish Maz. 100%.. but i'm not sure she's important enough for them to do that to her, especially with the curve ball of not having Leia for ep9 because of Carries sad passing.

But if Rey isn't Solo, than, judging frm all listed mistakes of Solo's as a parents cnonized in Bloodline, and in TFA,: abandining kid, looking (inexplicably) on themselves,Ben accusing Han of been horrible father(and possibly hinted even a murderer?) , Leia making blunder with not telling to Ben that Vader was his grandfather.....all this will be tragic end of once epic love and family from original trilogy.

I dont believe Story group would destroy legacy of Solo family so drastically?

There , by my belief, must be untold tragedy that separated Solo's, that explains why Rey was left. Story is in the past. There is exact 23 years gap in story from Ben's birth to Bloodline, a period about which we know almost nothing.

I said it once, more as a joke, but its grown me a bit since ........ They are most likely leaving all that material untouched because they want to cover it in the films. What if we find out that Ben isn't Han and Leia's biological son but Luke's son (let be honest, Luke naming his son Ben makes a hell of a lot more sense) who Luke sent his sister to raise because at the time Luke wasn't able/didn't want to look after the baby/child on his own.......

There were rumors out there that in the orginal Arndt script, that featured Luke much more, then Luke ends up killing Han when Luke tries to kill Kylo/Ben and Han gets in the way to save his sons life.

Now what if they take a riff on that and we find out part of the reason Kylo/Ben is able to destroy the Jedi Temple/School is because Luke is unwilling take up arms against his son. There are rumors that at some point Rey will square off with Kylo & Luke will handle the Knights of Ren - this could lead to situation were Luke is then in a position to help Rey with Kylo but is unwilling to fight him and or Rey ends up killing Luke when he tries to save Ben from her?

When Han Solo first runs into Rey, he clearly doesn’t recognize her. In fact, he assures her and Finn that they can “be on their way” once they’ve dealt with the smugglers on the freighter. But after spending some time with Rey, it’s easy to notice that he’s slowly realizing something on the level of feeling, emotions, though he can not explain it.

However one who obviously suspects who Rey is is Maz Kanata:
Maz asks Han “Who’s the girl?” as soon as they’re alone, so clearly Maz can discern that Rey is somehow special, and we know Han has told Maz something crucial about Rey’s identity because the next we see of Maz, she’s trying to convince Rey to take Luke’s lightsaber and learn about the Force.

This doesnt't mean that Han knows who Rey is, but the circumstances in which Rey was found, told by Han, opens perspective to Maz.

In fact, that entire scene of Rey stumbling across the lightsaber feels like an orchestration. Like Maz purposefully put the lightsaber in a place where Rey could feel the Force guiding her. When Rey goes to find the lightsaber, the door even opens for her. There’s no way Maz would just leave such a valuable relic unguarded, beneath a cantina filled with outlaws, no less. She wanted .

Rey to get the lightsaber because of something Han told Maz. Which is why she’s there as soon as Rey finishes her Force flashback, or “Forceback” as Abrams calls it.

This flashback essentially completes the puzzle, or at least the most important parts we can know. After watching it, you can figure out who Rey is. She is part of Skywalker bloodline.

That a very optimistic view of that scene we didn't see the Han & Maz scene because the wasn't a reason too in that amaz says who is the girl & Han replies No idea she just some one who I found on the Falco & wants to get back to Jaku. Also if maz did suspect that Rey was special before the force back she would have gone & got the Saber & given it to her personally rather then rely on Rey being very inquisitive & stumbling on the Saber by chance. It only after the force back that Maz show a interest in Rey & tries to get her to go & find Luke & help bring him back.

Maz asks Han "who is the girl?".

Why this Who?(whom does she expect her to be?)

Why girl?( why is she expecting that to be a girl?)

And why asking than because Maz has a Skywalker relic in her basement...which I repeat opens all by itself(before Rey even started to use Force), and is calling to Rey.

Maz orchestrated that I am sure in it, of course that is only my view.

Holly ... you should have help Rey Solo theory, not destroy it and all other theories except one :eek:

Ok in the process you proved this is most advanced thread on the planet, considering Rey...

"......The Dalai Lama is found rather than chosen. He is believed to have the power to choose the body into which he is reincarnated, meaning that the current Dalai Lama is a reincarnation of the last.
The search for the reborn Dalai Lama is the responsibility of the High Lamas .".......

And ...damit......Maz Kanata is "Consecrated eremite", I suspect this for a long time, she lives over thousand years and is one that has the responsibility to find chosen one reincarnated.Maz Kanata is Consecrated Eremite !

She was at Chosen one's backdoor before , in previous life to.

    Rey is chosen one ,reincarnated.

So Rey is chosen one reincarnated?

Maz has maybe tested many people before, searching for new one that brings the balance, and test is chosen one's relic from previous life -in this case saber, that also reactivates one's power, however Maz is one that initiates test.....wow.

Indeed new Dalai Lama is found by presenting objects owned by previous Dalai Lama and child which reacts and remembers when presented to those objects is beleived to be Dalai Lama's next reincarnation.

I think that Maz knows who she is, but I also believe that Rey finding the saber was the will of the Force. I never considered that Maz opened the door, always just kinda thought it was fate and the Force. That could very well be though that Maz did have a guiding hand. The whole scene is wonderful and is 90% of why I believe that she is indeed a Skywalker.

    • Rey - "What was that? I shouldn't have gone in there"
    • Maz - "That lightsaber was Luke's, and his father's before him and now it calls to you!"
    • Rey - "I have to get back to Jakku"
    • Maz - "Han told me" (they hold hands) "Dear child, I see your eyes - you already know the truth. Whomever you are waiting for on Jakku, they're never coming back" Rey cries "but, there's someone who still could"
    • Rey - "Luke"
    • Maz - "The belonging you seek is not behind you, it is ahead. I am no jedi, but I know the force. It moves through and surrounds every living thing. Close your eyes, feel it. The light. It's always been there. It will guide you. The sabre - take it."
    • Rey - "I'm never touching that thing again, I don't want any part of this"
I just have the hardest time considering that "That lightsaber was Luke's, and his father's before him and now it calls to you!" and "but, there's someone who still could"; "Luke"... doesn't mean anything significant.

So Rey is the chosen two ? And that would lead that Anakin wasn't because you're not the chosen one when you bring half an hour of peace to the galaxy ...

Even 30 years, it's a ridiculous amount of time considering the prophecy was millenary.

    There's something else.

You were the chosen one, you were supposed to bring balance in the Force !!! ( But someone will come 30 years later and do better than you ).

The Chosen One (Anakin) was said to be the one to bring balance to the Force, which supposedly happened when he tossed Sheev into a nuclear reactor. The ST doesn't mention the Force being out of balance, just that there's been an awakening. Now we are learning more about the Force, still with nothing indicating that it is not in balance.

So where's the point of bringing back the chosen one if it's already balanced ?

The chosen one was linked to the prophecy, there's no point of being a chosen one with no prophecy to fullfill.

Why does the avatar has to come back ?

BTW, Lor San Tekka said that the force was unbalanced at the start of the movie.

We don't know that Rey is a Chosen One. That has never been stated. We know that she's particularly important to finding Luke presumably to help re-establish the Jedi Order. Lor San Tekka's line was "Without the Jedi, there can be no balance in the Force.", which I also believe. I believe that the corruption of the dark side is what unbalances it. However, he was not even Force-Sensitive and could not honestly speak to the balance of the Force, nor were the Jedi extinct. I believe that this is again, about the survival of the Jedi to KEEP the force balanced.

I think TFA implies the Force is once again out of balance - Tekka speaks of despair across the galaxy and says that without the Jedi there can be no balance in the Force. Well, at that point there is no Jedi Order keeping the peace - fighting back the Dark Side which is what spreads despair and thus causes imbalance.

After what Rian said about the Jedi Order and events near the end of the movie, I have a feeling Luke was trying to find a way to stabilize the balance for good.
