This is the storyline of The Matrix, btw.

Ergo, those that disliked TFA, while a minority, if unchecked, would constitute an escalating probability of dislike when JJ starts rehashing other franchises...vis-a-vis, The Matrix.

    NNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    (Kidding. I liked The Matrix)

Seriously though, while I doubt JJ and co ability to even conceive of anything like that, I guess the only problem would then be that Ben probably surives the trilogy, and since he has Skywalker blood, that would need to be resolved.

Maybe Ben's redemption occurring when Luke entrusts the Skywalker legacy to Ben to end it would be an ending I could get behind. AKA Luke brings him back from the 'dark side' simply by sacrificing himself and saying, you're just as much a Solo as a Skywalker. A name means nothing. Whatever happens now is up to you, exit stage left.

Hence part 2 of the plan send her away to a location Han, Leia and others close don't know with someone they trust. That limits info to they have a daughter not seen in years. Somewhere in the galaxy. I imagine Wedge, Norra Wexley and Jazz Imari could arrange a secret id and find a safe place.

From there the question is what went wrong with her foster family.

I'm disappointed you didn't pick up on my "Architect" quote rehash. :p

    1. There is no mention of her in TFA - even in Han & Leia's heart to heart.
    2. No one recognises Rey. If she were their daughter, they'd recognise her.
    3. Surely, surely - if they sent her away they'd keep tabs on her somehow and when she went missing, look for her?
    4. Rey was left on Jakku before Ben turned bad.

There are only 2 resolutions for Rey.

    1.She is next chosen one.

    2.She is Skywalker(Solo)lineage.

1.People might think no!There are other options.Well think about it.Rey parents can be nowone and exactly by this she is chosen one(In fact Anakin's mother was insignificant slave and father "no one".If Rey is not Skywalker/Solo, she is than chosen by the Force,by the Luke's light saber,by film director...,in any way she is than next (formal or informal) chosen one of the Star Wars that continues saga.

2.Or she is continuation of Skywalker blood.(original post).

Or she is simply nobody who the Force wanted to succeed Luke.

They are returning to the notion that anyone can be significant with the force through training.

I did. The NNNNOOOOOOOOOO was a reference to how so many people hated that scene. (I liked it) I hope you didn't quote it from memory, though. Cause that would be some serious matrix luv.

Thank goodness! You'll be pleased to hear my good friend Google reminded me of that dialogue...if you can call it that?

Indeed. And if the Skywalker's need to be finished because they were created by the Force, it wouldn't make sense that there would be a new chosen one nor a Skywalker to complete the task! It's worth keeping in mind that Disney bought Star Wars - not just the Skywalker Saga. And if they want to continue the franchise with new tales then they have to start bringing in new characters somewhere and find a way of not allowing the story of Darth Vader to overshadow every story to come...

I was just saying there are a number of reasons that they might want her unrelated.

I'm not buying the fatalistic views of "Skywalkers are a problem so we should die out" or "the Jedi are really bad because the force wants them extinct."

No matter who Rey is the story has put her as the lowest caste untouchable living in a junkyard recycling junk for food vs the privelegded aristocrat who is expected to be the sucessor to both a political and religous dynasty.

Whoever Rey is she continues saga as a leading character, with or without Ben.

So if Rey continues saga, she must have its second name known.

    What is Rey's second name?

    Rey of Jakku?
    Rey...er ..Plutt?

Even slaves like Anakin had its second name, and names are more than words and letters.

Her second name will be revealed, and it will be nice in my eyes if its ,you know.

Siblings are a major element in the new Phasma novel. The words "sibling", "brother", and "sister" are all over the novel to an astonishing degree for different characters. A theme I've seen continuing with Rebel Rising (Saw and Steela) and Star Wars Rebels. And I've noticed the thematic continuity with the Ahsoka novel (Ahsoka/Ashla and Anakin, who were used as surrogate siblings) and Star Wars Rebels.

Lucasfilm's Michael Siglain said these newer books are thematically linked to The Last Jedi.

I think her being a Rey Nobody is the idea I support most after her being a Skywalker (i.e. Luke's daughter), simply because, either way, not as much exposition is required to explain it to a general audience as a Rey Solo or Kenobi (especially Kenobi) would call for.

I've mentioned it plenty of times before, but I think it's very clear, with all the joking about Rey's lineage amongst the cast and community, as well as fan speculation, that Rey's lineage is absolutely not the twist of TLJ: if promotion and mass speculation for TESB mentioned that Luke's father was to be revealed, and every other person had their own idea about who this could be, then the twist of "No, I am your father" isn't a twist at all, because it was expected; likewise, TFA teased Rey's lineage (one of a number of things I think JJ handled superbly was his mystery box film philosophy, as we came out with many more questions than we went in with) and Daisy Ridley has already confirmed that we will find out who Rey's parents are in TLJ.

Just got to wait a little under three months now and we'll know for sure, but don't be surprised if it's something like Finn being a mindless double agent (due to an inhibitor chip, for example) for the First Order that turns out to be the twist of this upcoming entry into this beloved franchise.

Arguments 1-3 could be put down to general Lucasfilm story-telling operating procedure...

    Pablo2.png

...and writers dropping lines of exposition that change perception or fill in backstory is classic SW.

But in the case of TFA, the lack of exposition is in itself is what creates the dead end. That is unless you want to diminish TFA. This is why the story should've been planned out more, if this isn't the case. Looking at the sacking of numerous directors etc, I fear it may well be this way. But if Rey turns out to be a Solo then it will more than likely mean that TFA was robbed of a very powerful scene between Han & Leia and instead is left with a nonsensical discussion where they never mention their dead or lost daughter. It means they don't even muse about the similarities between Rey and their daughter (same age, orphaned, strong in the force, potential similar appearance to when she was taken etc etc) which would be very odd. It will quite possibly mean an awkward situation where Rey isn't reunited properly with either of her parents when she has had the opportunity to do so. It will also have an impact on Bloodline, as this again makes no mention of a Solo daughter.

This is what irritates me about modern filmmaking. They put momentary twists or reveals ahead of actual good storytelling. How much better would TFA have been if this ridiculous mystery box nonsense hadn't got in the way of the characters actually having something to talk about?! Rey could've learned Han was her father and watched him die! Ren could've learned that his sister lived (her death playing a role in his fall). Han & Leia could've spoken about what really happened between them and Han could've told Leia "I think I've found her...we have to save her from the SKB" - and then imagine the tension of that scene and the reunion with Leia later (which makes little sense).

If I were in charge of this trilogy, I'd have planned it out from start to finish and attempted to make each film as they arrived the best they could possibly be - not using one film to set up something in the next one. The best trilogies are the ones that have a story planned from start to finish or the ones that evolve naturally (e.g. the first film is made without the knowledge that a second will come).

I agree that some options require exposition Rey Solo requires even more after TFA as many have noted. But Rey Skywalker also requires slmost as much.

I think the difference between Rey Skywalker and Rey Solo/Kenobi, in terms of exposition, is actually much easier to explain: there is a thirty year gap between ROTJ and TFA where we have only an idea of what Luke was actually doing (collecting artefacts and training potential Jedi among them), and we also know that he only recently (likely around the time of Bloodline, if not a bit later) ended up on Ahch-To.

Both Luke and Rey are very clearly strong in the Force, with the latter experiencing extremely vivid visions in TFA, and further Forceback scenes - attached to them, of course, in the same way that the events during TFA's Forceback were attached to the Skywalker Legacy/Rey's lightsaber, or Luke and Rey themselves - can be expected in TLJ if the inclusion of a certain shot in the first trailer of TLJ is anything to go by. This means that we, the audience, can visually experience whatever happened with Luke and Rey during the gap between ROTJ and TFA - a classic case of "show not tell", and therefore a way to naturally bypass the most evident problems of the prequels - in a manner already previously introduced to us (in TFA) making it much easier to comprehend. A Forceback scene in TLJ - perhaps coming about through meditation or extreme circumstances - could simply end with a concerned and worried Luke facing and turning away from Rey on Jakku and walking towards the ship we saw in TFA's Forceback, in the event that Luke does not immediately open up to her about her lineage if he is her father.

Compare that, say, to the Kenobi theory. The theory goes that Kenobi was lonely and washed up on Tatooine, so lonely in fact that he went against his Jedi training and had a child, whom he abandoned, and this child is Rey's mother/father: the biggest problem, of course, being that the only way to explain all of that logically is for a ghost to relay the unbelievable story to us.

Good point. I guess I don't like the idea of only getting glimpses through Forceback or exposition of who her mom is, how some remarkable woman was found and loved by Luke and then how and why Rey was dropped on Jakku with Plutt rather than Skywalker friend San Takka. Its simpler because so many easy angles to get to Rey Solo have to be retconned in or its a long way from celibate Jefi hermit on Tatooine in the case of Kenobi.

Rey Random or Rey Unexpected (Palpatine) are naratively simpler.

Are you suggesting her surname is Carrington?

    Because I'm sure it's Ewing.
Her parents names are Bobby and Pamela.
But her uncle, J.R., kidnapped and left her on Jakku.
