Rey taps into the Darkside... just as Luke did.

While the novelization points this out, I believe it came across very well on screen. When Rey finally gives into the force and begins pushing Ren back, she does so with amazing power. Ren's face and body language says it all. She jabs him in the shoulder, as if she were toying with him. And when she swings down hard, and then kicks him to the ground, she paces for a bit, with a look on her face of anger, revenge, or hatred. Then after she destroys his saber and slashes his face, she stands over him, again with a look of pure anger and hate. But she does not finish him. She resists. It is only the splitting of the ground that take place right after, that she seems to snap out of it.

This parallels Luke fight with Vader in ROTJ. Vader taunts him out, and Luke attacks with pure anger and hate, and nearly destroys Vader in seconds. Only upon seeing Vader's Robotic hand is Luke reminded of the path he is now taking and he snaps out of it and returns to the light.

It will be most interesting to see Rey develop in the next two movies. I think her story arch, like Ren's, will be one of conflict as she feels an overwhelming pull to the darkside.

But she doesn't kill him. Further she does not unlesh fury on him in a moment of passionate anger. She stops closes her eyes and meditates for awhile and then pushes back. When she takes him down. She does not kill him.

Anger is a path to the darkside. It is a motivation a passion that can lead one to the darkside which is ultimately selfish action, destruction, killing, domination.

I think it's way too soon for Rey to tap into the dark side while Luke Skywalker took 3-5 years or whatever to do .

    Emotions cloud judgement.
I liked how Rey's eyes flickered dark in a few brief scenes with Ben.
I noticed too how Leia's eyes went dark for a second or 2 when she learned Han Solo was killed.

I'm curious to know why Abrams and Kasdan chose that route.

The final script of Episode 7 is very clear:
Rey faces the dark saide and resists to it.

Absolutely, the same way Luke's fight against Vader did parallel the former fight between Anakin and Count Dooku. Both fights were under Emperor's arbitration. Both opposed the current apprentice vs the next apprentice.
Anakin failed to resist, killed Dooku, turned to dark side and became the new apprentice.
Luke did resist, and doing so, stayed a Jedi.

    What route?
Do you mean that you had prefered yellow eyes for Rey at this moment, like Anakin got when he turned to Vader, to mean she's tempted by the dark side?
Or do you mean that having Leia have the same dark eyes as Rey, means that Leia is also tempted by the dark side ?

I think Rey and Ren and like the Yin and the Yang. There is good in Ren and there is bad in Rey.

She was prowling around him as he was on the ground, like a predator stalking a wounded animal and trying to decide how best to finish it off. BTW, Daisy's facial expressions were amazing there. It reminded so much of Darth Maul stalking around while waiting for the laser door things between him and Qui Gon to open up in TPM. Seriously go watch that scene again, it's eerily similar.

And she clearly despises Kylo, with good reason. So she tapped into the Dark Side, pulled herself back at the last minute, but that doesn't mean that that urge will be completely gone.

The story would certainly be more interesting if Rey was severely tempted by the dark side over the course of trilogy or maybe even falls for a brief period. I mean she should have a wealth of abandonment issues so ground is laid for a fall.

If they're both Skywalkers.. then there's good and bad in both of them.

I want to believe Rey is Luke's daughter! The signs are there for us.
Even what posts here have said.
She and Luke have too many similarities.

I'm sticking with "Rey" Skywalker. (In quotes because I am confident that is not her real name)

The Skywalker saga is about incredible power and the temptation it brings.

    Vader and Kylo gave in.

    Luke did not.

I'd say "Rey" will definitely dance with the dark side, but will not give in.

I did not take anything from Rey that said she flirted with the dark side. If you watch the Clone Wars, Anakin killed many people, with Jedi around, but was never considered going to the dark side at that point. This idea that Jedi have to resist killing to be part of the light when facing a Sith is getting old. The idea that a Jedi must using Dark Side powers to become powerful to defeat a Sith is also getting old. Everything we hear is that the light is as strong as the dark, but the story telling does not show that in the movies. The Dark seems to always be more powerful until some lucky turn of events allows the light to win at the last minute. It would be very cool to see Rey develop into a Yoda type character, one that is really pure of heart, a true Jedi warrior that always does the right thing, but is a warrior. Having a female in that story arc would be super unique. She succeeds in areas where her master fails. The only one like that in modern mythology is the warrior lady in Game of Thrones.

I'm thinking she would have killed Kylo had the ground not split apart at the end of the fight. She was extremely aggressive in her attacks against Kylo in the second half of the fight and some of her blows were down right ruthless and vindictive especially the cut across his face. As others have said on this thread she was acting like a predator getting ready to make the killing blow when the ground separates them. It is only then that she snaps out of her dark side trance and runs off to tend to Finn.

Remember Yoda's line: “Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.”

Rey takes nearly the entire path to the dark side in that one scene. It would appear that the Force may have intentionally prevented her from completing the "path" to the dark side by creating the chasm between her and Ren.

In my opinion, that lends even more validity to the (my personal favorite) theory that Rey is the next "incarnation" of Anakin (the one who will bring balance to the force). The Force "realized" that Rey was talking a nearly identical path to that of Anakin, and decided to intervene to keep Rey on the right path to balance.

It maybe I'm full of it... It's a nice thought though; or at least I think it is.

Rey wanted to kill Kylo Ren. She used her fear and anger. But each time Kylo Ren wanted to capture Rey, and he thus also wanted spare Rey. This was indeed a nice inversion. Rey's fights were each time fuelled by the darkside. But Kylo's fights were held back by the lightside. Especially after he kills Han.
