In the Mortis arc son and daughter were siblings. There wasn't a mother figure.

Spoiler alert if you haven't read the EW articles:

In the EW articles it has been established that Rey does not understand why Kylo could kill his father. It also came out that she viewed Han as a father figure. By viewing them as siblings of the Force, she would absolutely be the key to his redemption. It's also established in the EW articles that Kylo is really conflicted about what he did to Han.

    End of spoiler alert

I think my point and others about the use of the phrase "mentally raping" is looking at the context of how he probed her mind. He first knocked her out, kidnapped her, bound her, told her he can take what he wants, and then without her consent proceeded to force himself into her mind. If you take out "mind," then it would absolutely be rape.

She fought back. So no, not all mental probing is rape.

I have no idea why anyone would fight over any of SW.

@BespinMinersUnion1138 it's shipping characters that causes fights. I don't get it myself. If I like 2 people together, I won't force my feelings on others, and nor will I go nuts if nothing happens. Some of my favorite pairings are just fanfiction and I love them no matter what's canon.

I just remembered something. When Ren is talking about the island and she tells he to get out of her head, he seems to recoil instead of push further. I wonder if she was already starting to shut him down, or he was just regaining his composure?

I think on the one hand she was already starting to shut him down, on the other hand Ren probably thought that's not what he was looking for. Ironic, isn't it? He had already seen Luke's hideout before he even realised it.

i love that too! he's had it in his head the whole time!

i think he backs out because she's upset him about Han and is having a hard time staying focused.
so yeah, she's already chafing him even before she actually tries to.

But Abeloth is canon and Son and Daughter are brother an sister by blood as well as by Force?
But yes. I can see kylo and rey ending up being just two halves of the Force in a completely non sexual manner.
It would be boring (to me) cuz if they are not blood related the nonsexuality of their relationship would be unrealistic. In fairytales most epic romances originate in antagonism. Its a cliché for a reason. Cuz it works and excites people. But if they go the non sexual route i hope they make a good, interesting and plausible story of it. Not just for kids but for adults as well. Thats whats important to me here, in SW.

I know she feels Han was her father figure. What Im saying...I dont think she is entitled to feel that way.
I know she will have a role in his redemption. What I would like it to be is more that of a catalyst. Not that he changes for her. If you understand what I mean. He needs to change his ways cuz of his selfrealization they are wrong. Not cuz he wants to make love to her.

So you dont separate mind raping from the sexual?
She did the same back to him. Why did he do it? To get the map. Probably to prevent more destruction. Of his mothers base. Why did she do it? Revenge. He dared to saw her vulnerability so she will bite back. She was strapped yes. But not powerless. Also...He could have taken out his lightsaber and kill her right there and then after she exposed his greatest fear. He didnt.

The problem is when some people think that their own personal interpretation of SW is better then other people's. And they, in their arrogance, allow themselves to be condescending and offensive towards those who dare to think differently calling them stupid, degenerate or whatever. It happens with every faction of fandom. Nowdays...most people cant just accept that others will think differently nor that such a thing is OKAY. It happens with members of all factions. In this specific case many of those who are against reylo behave absolutely the same as those who are pro reylo. Have the stance: if you disagree with me you are a degenerate or stupid and we will either make you see our way and comply or expell you from our homogeneous comunity. (I know...am banned from both antireylo haven at jcf as i am from reylo haven at skyforum. Its funny really...eehh...)
Such behaviour is wrong. I love discussions. I think they are driving force of speculation. But my motivation is never to subdue anyone to think like i do. Nor offend them if they dont. Its more, trying to explain why i see things the way i see them and perhaps inspire others to consider some of my arguments the same way i consider theirs. To understand the other's pov and then try to apply it to my own. With the end result of agreeing. Or disagreeing. Then repeat. Lol.
Sure I like to tease sometime...but thats not malicious...im just flirty by nature :)

Because he upset her and he noticed then that it upsets her to talk about her feelings and her lonelyness. And also probably because it reminded him of how he feels/felt those things himself and was a vulnerable place for him that he did not want to dwell on. Or her getting a glimpse of.

You two are so cruel!! Lolz...
How does he find the island? I always thought she guides him there. Through their FB?
Or its something more prosaic like the ship that was traced to Ileenium System was in fact MF cuz someone planted a teacer on it? Unkar Plutt or that sleezy spy with excessive make up and black eybrows. Could very well be cuz MF is not a clean ship like Han says. I hope things like that would be cleared. They really bug me...lol.

I'm not aware of much canon outside of the films and tv but if Rey's never spent much time with an older male she respected I could see how she might see Han as a father-like figure for lack of a better term.

Speaking of dad-Han, I'm still holding out for some good motivation for Ren's patricide outside of "leveling-up" or "because absent father reasons". Perhaps something that wouldn't upset Han lovers too much - Han inadvertantly having a hand in the accidental death of someone Ben loved or something?

I like a story where even the big bads without hope of redemption arcs still make decisions that the audience can understand why. I want a believable dark side seduction and not "he hung out with a bad crew" or anything like Anakin's turning into a child slayer because he might learn some trick to save a lover.

Oh I completely agree she feels that way. But what I dont understand why she feels it. Not like Han ever gave her much reason to.

Yes....please this. I need a reason for it. or a synergy of few mistakes he did. But don't you think that there's hesitation on his face when leia tells him to go save their son cuz "there's still good in him, I know it", here
    Untitled.png

That's doubt on his face. Not that there is light in Kylo, but that he, Han can bring him home. I always took it as a moment in which he reminisces about a speciffic thing he did to have made his son feel betrayed. Cuz that is why Kylo stuck that lightsaber....not to please Snoke or to gain power. But in an effort to erase the pain that this man made him feel.

Yes!! Exactly this. Like they did with Joker or Bane in Batman.

Thank you for that info :) Then it means that The Son and The daughter are only Force siblings which puts the possibility of what @BespinMinersUnion1138 suggest s a step closer to being true cuz it is rooted in canon :)
I would still prefer if they were synergistic and complementary Yin and Yang like kind of two halves of the Force....and ofc if they made love......can you imagine love making through Force Bond :D

I think that Kylo Ren and his Snowtrooper applied a tracking device during the deleted MF scene. But I also like the idea of the FB guiding him. A new TLJ Kylo Ren toy actually has a voice line which says: "The darkness guides me." The darkness guides him to the light?

i keep seeing this and i know it's how a lot of people seem to feel, but likewise a lot of other people already do understand why without needing anything explained.
so i hope what we get isn't some rationale that wrecks the headcanon many of us already hold, but somehow satisfies the people who need something extra?

without even knowing all the details, i don't wonder at all about why Ben is where he is.
and i feel like that's not something people would understand no matter how it's explained; you have to be there.

i also worry about "excusing" his behavior to make his redemption palatable.
if he's got justifications that people come to agree with, what's there to redeem?

Read JJ's comments in his commentary . You may also want to watch season 1 eps. 9 of Rebels. JJ said Ren did not make the decision to kill his father until the light of the Sun went out. you need to figure out why that would be important to him personally... Also, note Han dropped into white light. symbolism . and right after that its like Ren woke up you see the expression on his face ...of what did I just do ..... Note in Rebels when the one time Ezra turned to the darkside he did not remember anything he did ... Rebels in many ways is a reflection to the current saga... no doubt the mandorlian lore of it is gong to be as well.

It's funny for me with that scene. I saw it a strange way. Ren knew the sun going out meant the base would fire on the Resistance, so I thought he felt it was too late for his mother, and killed Han as well by letting his feelings consume him, thus ending all family ties. When Leia reacts to the death, he suddenly snaps out of it, possibly sensing her anguish and knows she's still alive.

Fair enough. I've been watching a lot of GOT of late and have been impressed by the writers ability to showcase what can make "good" characters turn or commit "evil" acts. Before my post I had watched a short breakdown of the Robert's Rebellion by a group who usually animate summaries of real word battles. It went a long to explaining the context of character choices and probably made me more curious about character motivations like Ren's that I struggle to be able to place. (I guess I'm a bit of a sensitive soul and I tend to see parts of myself in "the other's" shoes!)

"Understand" is a tricky word too. As a male with no dependents I often qualify replying to loved ones talking about parenthood or childbirth with "no, I don't understand!" or "I can't possibly imagine". As an active uncle that's not to say I don't have a reasonable grasp of the concepts and can empathise with their feelings.

I guess I'm not looking for all the context just "enough" whatever that is!
Only the murder of his father! I'd worry about those able to "excuse" or agree with patricide under any circumstances outside self defense! But I guess it's a war though and that label seems, for most people, to be enough justification for murder.
Thanks for the reminders! These visual metaphorical mediums can be confusing with cause and effect too- did the sun reflect the son or vice versa?

You make a good point. If these things are being presented like some kind of dark side possession it would go a long way to explain Anakins sudden lack of resistance to the hideous after surrendering to the Sidious!

they brought the war and we've yet to fully learn what their grievances are, though for the moment i'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they would be able to explain themselves given the opportunity. we have some sense of what a Centrist viewpoint is about from Bloodline, and it's clear that there are grounds for concern about the New Republic, though a violent junta does feel extreme--especially the destruction of an entire system full of billions of innocent lives.

so yeah, there's sort of the political/galactic layer over all of this, but when i look at Ren, i feel like his primary drivers (no pun intended) are personal--it's about his place in this galaxy and the burden of what he is (and who he is), and the frustration of parents who didn't seem to understand him and couldn't guide him. it's a very intimate sort of rage, a psychological war he's fighting alone for the most part, with something terrible goading him on.

again, not that the external factor of Snoke excuses his weakness and inability to choose what's morally right, but he is so very confused and sometimes that's all it takes. we'll see if they go the path of "brainwashing" to explain his condition, but even if that's the case, he will have to accept responsibility for the pain and suffering he has caused, and have to find healing of his own as well.
