Which is a fair take in the real world. But in a hyper-fantasized world like Star Wars where things are often painted in much broader strokes to facilitate "action"....there's a specific difference between killing Han Solo and a redshirt Stormtrooper.
Trying to draw the comparison to Rey not killing Ren with Rey killing a first order trooper is a logical fallacy designed to create a strawman.
Now the debate is no longer why didn't Rey kill Ren but rather "do good guys kill" which is wildly different than the "do good guys murder" debate.

Han Solo was never a "good guy" he was a scoundrel. That's what made his arc so compelling. He was going against who he had always been and becoming better for it. The opposite of that would be if Han turned Luke, Kenobi and the droids over to the Empire like DJ did.

This is even a point more specifically touched on in The Last Jedi with the war profiteers.
But now we see how far off the point of "Why didn't Rey kill Ren" we have come.

 

You can bet money he will be redeemed because of his sentiments for Rey (Carrie is gone, Rey will have fundamental role in his redemption), it's Star Wars, not a dark-depressing movie franchise.

There will be lightsaber fight between the two but they will not be able to kill each other because of their feelings.

100% plausible. She definitely has some Kaylee-Serenity going on.


But I also think a more *likely* approach for the no-murder thingy is the whole half the movie we just spent with Luke seeing the consequences of those sorts of thoughts/actions and her railing against him for it....

 

Nah. That would involve being canonically accurate and if there's anything SW fans love more than hating on other SW fans, its disregarding canon and creating Rey parentage theories with some minor character from the EU.

Kylo must be redeemed, and than die.
That is only moral outcome, anything else is sad, weird or offense of morality.

If he stays Dark sided, or dies on Dark side, Leia's and Han legacy will be truly sad. Not good, So he must be redeemed.

If he turns to light however and stays alive, there is an army of people , including Finn, Poe, Lorr san Tekka, Rey herself, Luke, Jedi padawans at camp, Villagers at Jakku.. that suffered or lost life from his own hand, including his own father Han.. I mean, I can't believe Disney and LSL can make such villain redeemed and stay alive as accepted from galactic society (and large portion of the public)..this will be travesty.

If everything goes "grey".. people will leave the room. We need clear end.

So, he must be redeemed to honor Leia and Han, but his path is to bloody already for his redemption to be in a way he stays alive and lives as a part of family and the society he tried to destroy(Rey, all her friends, resistances, freedom lovers,totaly inpovccent people, rember just slaughter of village at Jakku on his command, the Galaxy).

Thus, it is hard to avoid Lucas solution, like a Vader his grandfather, redemption trough regret for his sins, and than as much as possible honorable death.

It will be too much like Vader if he has redemption + death, it's more interesting if he is alive and go to exile/in prison.

 

I agree.
I had hopes this would end with a less-than-happy ending but one still of hope and the next trilogy could be the revival of the Republic and Ren's growing in darkness as a true lord of the dark...but alas with the RJ trilogy and DnD series, I have my doubts I get that.

i think he could actually do a great deal of good teaching FS kids how to handle their Dark-sidedness.
actually, i still think that's where this is going: he and Rey (together or independently) raising a new generation in balance.

if Ben is going to go into exile and have an out of the way place to meditate and teach, i'd love it if he wound up on Ahch-To with the caretakers. <3
