I was initially disappointed that Rey's parents were nobodies, but I am warming up to the idea. If they had connected Rey to Luke or Han or Obi-Wan, almost any version of these stories would create continuity problems with what we already know. They would also just be telling the story everyone expected, and they would risk "overconnection" (like when some people thought it was over the top that Anakin built C3PO).

I like that it goes in a totally unexpected direction, and it is truly a new story instead of just recycling. I still dislike that it makes Rey's motivations and abilities hard to understand - but then, if the PT had been made before the OT, people would've just thought of Shmi Skywalker as a nobody too.

However, I am still just as disappointed as always if Snoke is just Snoke. I maintain that Star Wars was always meant to be the story of one ultimate good versus one ultimate evil. In my opinion, adding on "okay, now here's a second ultimate evil" just doesn't fit.

It's clear that Rey can take care of herself, even has a wee child.
Perhaps she is of a difference species and they just dump their offspring at age 5.

It's probably for the best that we don't know how she survived when she was young, trust me.

Strange Snoke and Kylo didn't told us her real name, or second name...

Will she ever get second name I mean even at the . wedding with Kylo she would be asked her second name?

Why does she dont remember anything in his 5 years of life?

Why were her force powers dormant?

My daughter knew alot things about me and world around her at age of 5.

And ability to shut off the Force... a quality she has in common with Luke Skywalker.

Maybe one could easily argue Luke was a junk dealer on Tatooine (trading with Jawas) and got drunk on sea creature milk. So even if Luke turns out to be Rey's dad, Kylo wasn't lying.

She's going to be a Jedi. Jedi don't get married.

Could we already? Was Leia married? Is she a Jedi?

Leia talks about sending Ben to Luke because Luke is a Jedi. However Leia may have been trained by Luke & may be dismissive of that fact compared to Luke's experience and knowledge of the Force.

Glad someone else is sick of it too. isn't it absurd? The PC police are on patrol in the cantina. Can't we talk about friggin star wars without people looking for reasons to be outraged and offended? What's next, NFL anthem protest talk?

Anyway, I think the feminist icon comment is just suggesting that showing her as a strong character having endured abandonment makes her an even more strong and admirable female character for what she's been through. I really don't see where the inflammatory side of it is.

The idea of her parents growing afraid of her powers seems plausible, but i think they really were just nothings. I don't think kylo ren lied to her because she seemed to already know, as he said to her. She didn't appear shocked, just upset to have to face what she's been in denial over

If that changes then the Jedi Order is dead. It would be something else.

    Leia is not a Jedi.

I'm not sure I agree. As long as the Jedi are servants of the light and reject the Dark Side - I think the order remains. The only thing allowing marriage would do is make it harder to reject attachment (which isn't just another word for relationship but is about possessiveness and not being able to be wholly selfless). So for me it could be something advised against but not forbidden - a Jedi would just have to show they are capable of being absolutely committed to serving the will of the Force whilst being married.

Badly worded. Just saying that the order falls when there are not "beings" who live by it's core doctrine of serving the Force and rejecting the Dark Side. ;)

The are light side force users who aren't Jedi. Being a Jedi means something. Once the religion changes it's something else.

Really, if there are light siders who devote themselves to the Force and reject the Dark Side then they're all but Jedi. The only thing stopping them from being Jedi is not officially signing up to the order and receiving the guidance and knowledge from its masters. It's certainly not the case that someone who eschews marriage = a Jedi. This was just one of the rules of the order to keep Jedi safe from the dark side. But fundamentally, it isn't what makes one a Jedi.

    I prefer the term: evolves.

Though I'm not, um, married to the idea that the Jedi can get hitched. I just don't think it's a deal-breaker for them being a Jedi if they could.
