Rey's new lightsaber in Episode IX

    I remember this image from the TFA concept art book.

    J.J. Abrams was for a time in love with the concept of the dual coloured lightsabre, symbolizing fire and ice, light and dark. Now we know from TLJ that Anakin's lightsabre is broken and that Rey will either have to repair Anakin's sabre or craft a new one. I noticed that Rey not only saved the books from the Jedi library, but that the box that contains them in the Falcon also includes Luke's "recovered Jedi Crusader pendant" which contains a trophy from a "fragmented Sith lightsabre crystal" (you also see it at the beginning of the movie, hanging in Luke's cell).

    I believe that Rey will craft a dual bladed lightsabre which will have a blue and a red blade symbolizing the higher wisdom she had aquired from Luke. Namely that the true nature of the force is that which resides "in-between" extremes such as light and dark, death and life, peace and violence.

    What do you think? What sort of lightsabre will Rey have in Episode IX?

    If I would see Rey turning on lightsaber, which would turn out to be double-bladed one, blue on top of that, I would definitely squeal like a little girl in a theatre.

    Come on. Come on. Think of it from purely greedy, big studio perspective. Anakin's lightsaber was featured in five SW films, if I recall correctly (did he have it AotC? I'm not sure.), so everyone who wanted to have it already has it. People love double-bladed lightsabers and Rey has a weapon that is awfully similar to one. It would a missed opportunity from merchandise sales' perspective if her lightysaber isn't unique and from storytelling perspective if it doesn't incorporate her staff. Also, when I think of SW films, I don't want things to happen just because something is cool but a double-bladed lightsaber for a live-action Jedi would be dope.

    My initial thought in looking at the busted lightsaber in TLJ is that Rey would repair it but leave it split in two, and wield it like two daggers. Have we seen anything like this in the EU? I doubt they'll go that route, but might be cool to see.

    I hope and so I voted for double bladed lightsaber. With how she wields her staff, she could do some real damage with it.

    I don't like this idea. Red sabers represent the bad guys. That was Lucas' rule and it would confuse things in the films.
    Yes, the Force has two sides that will always exist and should be in balance. But those who wield the dark side are cancerous and the red lightsaber is their weapon. The blue and greens are for the jedi who help maintain the balance.

    She should definitly craft her own lightsabre with Anakins crystall in its core (mirrowing Vaders crystall in Rens sabre). Imo it will remain to shine blue.

    It's probably going to be Anakin's repaired/modified lightsaber. It will certainly look different, so Hasbro will be happy. The two-coloured one is super silly, I don't want it anywhere near live-action stuff... Dual-blade is possible, but I'd prefer if they stuck to the classic design.

    I have a few thoughts, I will try not to ramble.

    • I would love to see her build a new saber from the remains of Anakin's, but I feel like Episode IX needs to make a time jump and I don't feel like it would take her years to build her new saber.
    • I used to really want her staff to be/become a light saber, but now I like that she uses both. Separately.
    • The dual blade (red and blue) while kind of neat in theory doesn't really make much sense with what we know about the kyber crystals now. In theory even if it were red to begin it should later become white at some point, correct?
    • I am more than ok with Rey wielding a different color. My vote is white, but just because I think it looks cool.
