SPECULATION Rey's New Weapon

One of the last shots of TLJ was the broken saber. They wouldn't show this if they aren't planning to reuse this saber in the next episode. Rey will fix the saber.

 

Personally, I'd love to see a yellow lightsaber for a change.

 

If she's really on the Force fast track to post-Jedi Force powers, she should be near-next-level the next time we see her, I think, especially if there's a time-jump between VIII and IX.

Which might mean no lightsaber required.

No lightning either.

Perhaps her mind will be her most powerful tool.

Rey vs. Kylo facing off in a true epic battle of wits.



I do think there's very serious potential there, particularly if one considers the potential use of Force-induced thoughts and scenarios:

Rey brings Kylo back to his childhood based on memories she gleaned from his mind while Force-bonding.

And Kylo would use ever opportunity to draw Rey toward her doubts and fears.

Truth vs. illusion.

Compassion vs hate.

Fellowship vs. loneliness.

Acknowledged vulnerabilities vs. false strengths.

Acceptance vs. denial.

Truly endless and epic possibilities which could move the saga's struggle between light and dark into a new dimension if done well, I think.

 

Single blue saber only. Probably the Anakin/Luke that was damaged in the end of TLJ.

 

I think she'll build her own lightsaber AND fix the broken one, which she'll give back to Kylo by the end of episode 9.

 

She may show Kylo how it's done and build a stable cross guard! lol

 

Based on the thought pattern of TLJ.. I think Rey will not have a lightsaber. She will retain the staff, nothing special. She won't need one because there will not be a final duel with Kylo Ren.. they might fight in some other format like @JediMasterRobert suggested or they may not fight at all. I'd still love to see a saberstaff but Disney has made it clear that people like me are the 'problem' with Star Wars so, I'm kinda having to think about what I would hate to see, what I think would be lame and ultimately cheap to do to answer that question.

 

I imagine, given the mythical importance placed on the individual sabers in the new trilogy, that we will see her go to Luke's old Jedi school and find his green one.

 

That damn, stupid lightsaber is still in this story. WHY? Why can't Lucasfilm let go of a weapon that was lost in "The Empire Strikes Back" and should have remained lost?

 

She better build a new lightsaber! I don’t really care too much on what it ends up being exactly, as long as there’s something unique about it - a yellow color would be nice and/or a style that hasn’t been seen before (kind of like how Kylo Ren’s crossguard was blowing minds in TFA’s teaser a few years ago).

 

Right now I would bet it will either be fix Luke's blue one or find Luke's green one. The way the new trilogy handles sabers I can't see them not doing that.

Or they decide the new movie is a new direction for the Jedi and we get no light sabers.

Or maybe(joking...hopefully) we get a scene with cranky force ghost Luke, sipping blue milk whilst trying to show Rey how to put light saber part A with part B with Rey ignoring him and doing it herself.

 

A double bladed blue one.

 

Given Rey's proclivity for her staff (bowstaff? vibrostaff?) in the movies, I could see her reconstructing Luke's saber to be a double-bladed one.

Whether it remains blue remains up in the air. The new canon material is going into more detail about Kyber crystals and how they form their colors. Depending on Rey's development in the next movie, the lightsaber could transition away from blue towards another color.

Doubled-bladed a must! Blue, green, grey or yellow as long as it's not red. We need to see a saber get created. Imagine something like this from The Force Unleashed, but for live action. It'd be about damn time if you ask me.

 

She will probably salvage parts and make a new one or just repair. This would be an awesome scene to see in episode IX as we have never seen a lightsaber construction in live action. I think green lightsaber would be cool for Rey tbh.

A staff would have been sensible, but she kind of moved on it seems. If she is a Skywalker, then of course she should mend Anakin's. If not, I see her with a more of an earthy Rahm Kota style saber, befitting her scavenger heritage.

 

I would imagine she’s going to rebuild the blue lightsaber in some way, although The Last Jedi novel hints that Luke left his green lightsaber in the possession of the Caretakers, so it’s very possible that she takes that one instead. (Personally, I’d love that because the green lightsaber is criminally underrated and it totally got the shaft in The Last Jedi. )
