I doubt it, she'll be trained by Luke in some way. Perhaps in a different way than we've seen before, but still. It's a wasted opportunity otherwise.

I have suggested the same thing.
The end of of TFA is telling - Luke isn't looking at Rey. He is looking at the saber. He is weighing it all up. He has probably waited a long time, been troubled with his mistakes, has been stranded (whilst all this went on) or simply didn't think he should return. He is either going to be unsure of his abilities and/or unsure of teaching another powerful Jedi. Rey's abilities are already beyond what is normal so that will cause him concern - along with the fate of her parents (conflict). I have suggested that Luke may also be responsible for her parents deaths and that Kylo could use this against Luke/Rey. Either way, I feel like Luke is going to need some persuading to train her. This for me will be shown at the start of VIII.

As @RuccusRob says, a lot of her journey to being a powerful Jedi has been shown. It needs to slow down. I think that Rey and Luke will be called in to help the Resistance. Rey will go off with very little extra training from Luke or just say she is going and Luke will be forced to train her on the journey to this crisis. Then in her duel with Kylo, he will use her parent's fate and Luke's potential involvement against her. This will conflict Rey and allow Kylo to defeat her (NOT KILL!). She will leave at the end of the film and we won't know what path she has taken until IX.

No way. Rey will surely be trained at the beginning of Episode VIII, I bet on it.

I don't think Luke just walked away as Han said. I think he left to find the first Jedi Temple to get answers on the true nature of the Jedi. To him that goes above and beyond everything else. He wouldn't just sweep in like a Deus Ex Macina to save Leia and the resistance. That would be making the same mistakes as he did going to Bespin.

He already knows. He would have felt it.

Yeah if Leia could sense Han's death, then I'm positive that Luke felt it as well. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if he sensed that Rey was coming and was waiting for her.

I'm pretty sure she will have to run up those steps a few thousand times.

one could go a step further than that... perhaps he was guiding her to him?

Maz: "Close your eyes...feel it. The light...it's always been there, it will guide you. The saber, take it."

that doesn't directly support me of course, but what if Luke was reaching out to Rey... helping her to find the lightsaber.. helping her escape interogation, and helping her to force pull the saber when Kylo was trying to get it.
when she closed her eyes and let the force in... maybe she was letting Luke in?

just a thought.. but Luke was able to call to Leia during ESB when he was only half trained. One would expect him to have honed those skills a tad in the last 30 odd years

She also dreamed of the island and planet, where Luke turns out to currently be on. And she was apparently doing it long before she even knew that he was anything more than a myth. Another thing that I noticed upon rewatch is that, when Rey sees the planet for the first time, there seems to be a look of recognition on her face (they even include a shot of Chewie looking over at her at the same time, as if he's curious). It's subtle, but I took it to be her realizing that it was the planet from her dreams.
